Don't underestimate the power of nostalgia. You guys always put a smile on my face, thank you for that! Nostalgic food is for me, having scraps from the market, from stroopwafels, super cheap, luke warm and ready to eat. Guess where I live :)

We keep cubed tofu in the freezer for adding into things like curry, miso soup, and even instant ramen. Only takes a few minutes to heat up :)

Thanks for a look at some "Okinawa only" convenience store foods, Shinichi and Satoshi! The "loaded" lower sodium miso soup was very appealing, and the nostalgic burger and taco rice made me hungry.😋 The Holiday Margarine pan--not so much.😅 Although I grew up when margarine was popular, my mother never used it and the flavor seems odd to me. Love to you both. 💙💙

No clue about holiday margarine, but regular margarine is very popular in Canada. I only buy butter, but there is a large section of the store for margarine and vegan versions. It is a bit weird that your bun advertised margarine.... Here that is seen as sub-par/fake and the best marketing term would be "made with real butter"

I've never seen tofu on noodles like that. Would lovd to try that. But I would put some shredded green onions on it. And I'm going to try the egg in miso soup. And never really thought about addind spam to the soup. I always add a egg to my taco rice (sunny side up); it's great when the yolk mixes with the rice and taco meat, but never had it with an omelet.

HEY TABIEATS,....love your videos and had a question about one. Okinawa's famous cream soup. it is clearly VERY popular there and served at nearly every popular restaurant. in your video all three places you went had it.(jacks steakhouse, seaside, etc.) I can not find any recipes for it on the internet (in english anyway). i found one recipe in english but it didnt seem to be correct. i was wondering if you could help me find out how to make it, maybe you guys could even make video on the recipe. for something so popular you would think someone would have made a recipe about it. personally i cant even find the ACTUAL name of the soup. except Okinawan cream soup. LOL, PLEASE HELP, -your long time fan

Spam is not popular in Australia. I believe it is very unhealthy.
@spang9782
@spang9782 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is not good for you, but not any unhealthier than meat pies or sausage sizzles. I think every culture has its vices. In Hawaii and Okinawa, Spam was brought over by our military during WWII as fresh meat was severely rationed so canned meat like Spam was the next best thing to real meat. We acquired the taste so well that even when things got back to "normal," Spam was still part of our diet. You might have heard of Spam musubi, a rectangular block of rice with a slice of teriyaki Spam on top, wrapped by a sheet of nori (laver). Very popular in Hawaii and Okinawa and ironically, one of the most popular items sold in our 7-11's.

Okinawa has a reputation for healthy people. Does everyone eat a lot of 7/11 food. In Australia you would not eat anything from 7/11. The food you show here is entirely different, it seems tasty. I wish we had it
@HungryTrashPanda
@HungryTrashPanda Жыл бұрын
I live here and no one really eats a healthy diet as we think is eaten here. People were sold a pretty package of the traditional food of the island to explain the large population of elders, but there are so many variants as to why this group is living so long. Like everywhere, few people eat a truly healthy diet here. Maybe they did a hundred years ago, but not now.

@@robertbarnier45 Lol you sound quite naive mate, how long has it been since you've stepped into an Australian 7 Eleven store and actually paid attention to their fresh food section? Like over 20 years or something? 🤣 They've got fresh salads, sub rolls, hot pies and pasties, hot bites like Mac & cheese bites and hot & spicy chicken tenders, sandwiches, wraps, fresh sushi rolls, salad bowls, fruit salad, pastries, bakery items and the new hot sandwiches called Johnny's Deli range is quite nice which are newly opened in Victoria. I used to get sick from their old food selections over a decade ago but now, not been sick once and I always grab a few fresh items whenever I'm at Melbourne Central station. I love their triple selection sandwich pack.
