I’ve been doing tons of research on curriculums and homeschool the last six months and I have found that your videos are the best for suggestions! Maybe because we have similar learners or we like the same things, but everything that you’ve been talking about is spot on with what I want for my kiddos! Just wanted to let you know! You’ve inspired me. 😊

Thank you for this list! I had to watch twice to make sure I didn’t miss any! I’d love your tips on teaching math to a gifted student, if you have any extra advice specifically for a gifted learner! I love the idea of adding in more math picture books!

I've just fallen quite deeply in love with Mitsumasa Anno's Math Games series. Beautiful illustrations, my son spends so much time in it (as do I!). It introduces mathematical concepts in a way that's more about opening your mind to ideas than hard math facts. It's very philosophical in a way, it creates a sense of awe at the abstract and the way the world works. Probably best suited to 5-6 years old but even I love it 😅

This was gold! Thank you! We have a few of the MathStarts series, and I agree that the authors chose great story situations for young ages. A book that we have LOVED is Full House: An Invitation to Fractions. The characters in the book are fantastic (race car driver, duchess, dog trainer, sea captain, etc.), and each page reinforces the fraction. My boys pull it out to read almost daily.

Thanks for the recommendations. A few to check out for sure! I found one called Eat Your Math Homework. It’s for about Grades 2 to about 5 and has a lesson and corresponding baking/food activity to do. My son LOVES doing math that doesn’t feel like math and this book has been an hit. So far we’ve attempted the Tessellating Brownies and I look forward to doing more of the topics in this book.

I'll have to get the fraction one, I like that it incorporates real-life scenarios for using fractions. When my son was younger we loved Cookie Fiasco by Dan Santat. It also explains fractions and introduced a new vocabulary word to my son - fiasco.

Fractions can be a tough math topic so it's really nice to have real-world applications and connections.

Kate snow‘s website is awesome!!! I love her teaching tips email!!! In a few years we will be using pre school math picture books again!!! My 6 year old loves them still even though she now in 1st grade!!! Not used the math Start series but I’m looking for them!!! The Aussie education board bought some math and science books out for parents to read to school kids so we use them for homeschooling!!! My 6 and 7 year olds read math picture books themselves but idk wat they are getting out of it so we read them with them!!!

Do you have any advice on finding Spanish titles of books like these. I’d like a mix in our library though I know a lot of the ones recommended by Kate Snow seem to be only written in English.
@SevenInAll
@SevenInAll 4 ай бұрын
The MathStart series has quite a few of their titles in Spanish, as I mentioned. Here's a website with a link of the titles offered in Spanish: www.mathstart.net/edicion-en-espanol-archive.html I have purchased all the Spanish MathStart titles I have from BookOutlet, but you can also check other bookselling sites. Some english titles have Spanish translations, like 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street has Veinte camiones grandes en medio de la calle. Some of the Greg Tang picture books have Spanish editions, as well. You can do searches by author or by title and then add "Spanish edition", and that usually quickly show whether there's a Spanish version available. If you search for Spanish math picture books, there are also some lists that come up.
