You should put a T handle to hold onto and fix the controls to . That way you have something to hold onto and use upper body weight to help steer as well . I bit more power and I bet you could get that thing really flying and a bit safer .

Nah IMO anything rigid that's constrained to the deck defeats the purpose. The main reason it's cool is it forces you to use your balance to control it. Otherwise it's just a scooter or an open cabin car which is cool too but not the same. Plus the easier it is to maneuver the higher the chance of doing something dumb.
@PhilipCockram
@PhilipCockram Ай бұрын
@@JJFX- I agree with all that . Just suggesting a small compromise to make it more user friendly . Skateboards don't typically have engines or brakes either ...so ...compromises have already been made to make this function.

Vlad mentioned personal protective equipment, which is good. Somebody else mentioned a "dead man switch", to shut it off and apply the brake if the rider falls off. I was thinking that too. The idea of a harness is an excellent one, and I wish I'd thought of it. The reason it wants to roll and turn on acceleration is the engine's crankshaft runs fore and aft. When the engine accelerates, it increases the torque on the crankshaft but it also increases the counter-torque on the crank case. That forces one side of the deck down, and the trucks translate that into a turn. If the crankshaft ran side to side, it wouldn't try to turn on acceleration. It would try to lift one end of the board, but that would not affect the turning behavior of the board. I am waiting with bated breath to see what Long Board v2.0 brings.
@TwinShards
@TwinShards Ай бұрын
Kill switch can be as simple as a wire attached to your belt and the break point being a magnet, you fall and it will shut off the engine.
@michaelblankenship548
@michaelblankenship548 28 күн бұрын
I think you may be wrong about why it turns on acceleration. It’s the differential turning only one wheel so when you accelerate the drive wheel pushes forward making it lean. Weld the gears to make it positrac and I think it will solve the problem.
@sparcnut
@sparcnut 22 күн бұрын
Aren't the engine and driveline mounted to the axle though? So the board shouldn't torque-steer at all, right? (Seems like an important and intentional design feature to me...) I think the board steers more with throttle only because that also means the wheels will be rolling, which reduces steering effort - much like operating a tractor/truck/etc that lacks power steering.
@michaelblankenship548
@michaelblankenship548 22 күн бұрын
@@sparcnut with a differential, only one wheel is putting power to the ground while the other is freewheeling. The powered wheel will naturally pull that side forward and with this type of steering mechanism, it will cause it to lean in the direction of the drive wheel. Welding the gears so both wheels pull together will eliminate the problem.

This is so much nostalgia for me! I remember when I was like 15 or so, I bought this motorized longboard (2-Stroke too, back in the day) and I had so much fun with it! It was very unsafe, very fast and an absolute blast to drive! It fucked up my entire back at one point because me, being smart, thought that a t-shirt was perfectly adequate protection. 🤣 Thank you so much for making this!

This is "hands down" one of the coolest inventions I have ever seen (legit) as an amateur skateboarder. I think you should definitely patent this! For a little less board roll, you could try a spring resistance system like a mountain longboard 💯👍👏🙋

Awesome fun. Great job guys. Ever thought about making something that fly's? Remember those toy tethered planes that took off and landed while attached to a pole/post. If you based it on a Lada it would need a lot of weight shedding and still need a lot of lift. Not sure if it's even possible but if anyone can, Vlad can.

If you install a handlebar then you've turned it into a scooter and could call it that in the video. It also needs scuff pads to make your shoes less likely to slide. This is pure Garage 54 with the 2-stroke and cable grips, but I wouldn't be surprised if another channel made one with an electric motor and battery so that it's more powerful and quieter. I didn't think it would turn very well, but it's actually quite good. Kudos to the guys for figuring this one out as they went.

Some springs or bushings to help it return to center, and adjusting the ratio on the steering may help. For now it wants to fall into a turn and takes a lot of lean for a little turning.

Great design, all you nead is safety cables front and back so you can focus on turning and brake as hard as you can, like have a harnes on you and cables holding you in place from rolling back and from tipping foreward, then you can upgrade that engine, the breaking force and really have some fun with that thing. Hope to see a part two on this, you will never fall off if you had cables.

This is legit very practical if the steering becomes easier (wheel) and you add a seat with belt. Just those 2 changes should make it safe to go at much higher speeds and probably some weight reduction would help a lot too. Maybe some steel bumpers for good measure, a plate place and signaling to make it street legal and that'd make me and a bunch of people get one. Simply because it's easy to repair, minimalistic in what it has and very good for parking with the double axle steering. I hate bikes because they're with 2 wheels, but if a bike-like simple car exists with 4 wheels i want it.

Handlebar like others have said. Could even use more bike parts for throttle / brake and the handlebars even. Or....you could go FULL NUTS and install throttle / brake pedals as pressure sensors on the floor of the contraption. One on each side. Make it a TRUE skateboard (you'd have to grippy up the surface though too like a skateboard).
