OFFICIAL WEBSITE: www.hopscotchfilms.com.au/film...
An exquisitely realized adaptation of Lionel Shriver's bestselling novel, We Need To Talk About Kevin, the film was a critics and audience favourite following its competition screenings at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Tilda Swinton turns in a stunning and breathtakingly fragile performance as Eva, a concerned mother with a troubled, angry son - Kevin. Eva is a haunted middle-aged woman trying to grapple with her own feelings towards her son as he grows up to be a brooding teenager, and his unthinkable actions will shatter her life. What was her role in it? Did she resent her son since birth? What could she have done to help him?
This is a fearless film that will provoke and enthral audiences in equal measure, raising questions of guilt, regret and loss. At the heart of the story is an eerie portrait of the idea of nature vs nurture, and a bold look at the alienation of parenthood. Chilling but absolutely captivating, We Need To Talk Kevin is directed by visionary filmmaker Lynne Ramsay (Morvern Callar, Ratcatcher), who constructs a mesmerizing, intimate piece of cinema.

I wonder what the fathers last thoughts were when he realized his wife was right all along. That Kevin had manipulated and played him all along. And that he treated his wife poorly and made her out to be a bad mother. As he watched his son kill his daughter with the bow that he got for him and taught him how to use.

@@AnonymousRandomGuy006 that brat deserved to be left to his naive dad to be raised. A lot of kids in the world go through mistreatment, physical and sexual and they don't become monsters because of it. Kevin was born bad and no amount of good parenting would have changed that. The dad was always by his side, protecting and enabling him and yet Kevin make sure to kill him and make him watch the sister to die as well.

That’s one way of looking at it, but I think Kevin was saying that he was the context because A) the divorce stemmed from his parents’ vastly differing attitudes towards and relationships with their children, Kevin especially, and B) they were specifically talking about custody when he interjected, with his dad having just made a remark about how it was a no-brainer (because his father believes that he has a very healthy and loving relationship with his son, while Kevin and his mother can’t stand eachother).
@fsd2696
@fsd2696 6 жыл бұрын
Carter Wright that’s exactly what I think Kevin meant by saying he’s the context. Not in a egotistical kind of way but because it’s the truth. He was literally the context leading to their divorce. The entire film he was playing them against each other.. some say overhearing their discuss for a divorce is what made Kevin kill his dad and sister to either get Eva’s attention all to himself watching him on the news or to make her suffer as revenge for resenting him for so long. Why do you think he killed them and not the mom?
@cowardlydaug
@cowardlydaug 6 жыл бұрын
RoyalOutcast Agreed. I had thought he killed them and not the mom because he knew she would suffer more living with everything taken from her than she would if he just killed her. Ultimately, he does want her to notice and pay attention to him as well though. Now I feel like it was a mix of the two

This scene was the decisive factor for Kevin to commit those heinous acts. He clearly loathed the idea of separating from his mother, Eva. His sole purpose seemed to be seeking validation from Eva, which explains why the last hug scene of the movie was unexpectedly touching for those who understand Kevin. Furthermore, the final scene marks the only time in Kevin's life where Eva voluntarily showed him motherly love. Each instance where Kevin feels any sign of love from his mother, the song "Mother's Last Word to her Son" plays, as seen in both the last hug scene and when Eva reads to Kevin. However, it's sad that Kevin had to ask for love during the book scene, saying, "Keep reading, Mom." In contrast, the final hug scene is notable because Eva embraces her son without any prompting from Kevin. Kevin is painfully aware of Eva's feelings towards him. He even acknowledges this when he refers to the incident of her breaking his arm, calling it "the most honest thing you've done." Very deep movie.

Always like what? Parents create atmosphere in which a person is shaped. They're responsible for their child at least until he's 18. Examples: there is primary psychopathy in the brain. There is a real American neurobiologist who has psychopathy, and he's a decent person. But, surprisingly, his brain scan is similar to a brain scan of a serial killer.

Wow everyone in these comments going after Eva, even though if they watched the film (or read the book) the DAD was the narcissistic one who manipulated her into having kids (when she wanted to be childfree) gaslight her, ignored her concerns about Kevin and he enabled him every step of the way. Not saying she was an angel, she's a deeply flawed human being who makes mistakes. But the way people are going after her is astonishing. Not surprised if the comments are coming from men tbh.

@@Fuckinneforni Yes, I have a prepared text which I shared several times on different channels. Some more details can be added - the morning as he did it, what it looked like (he needed 120 seconds to kill 9 and wound 7; there ia an authentic audio of it as, kids in another class recorded with phone). He was probably not evil towards his family as this kid in the movie, he was quiet and striving for perfection. He had friends. There is also a footage of him as little kid, he was kind of strange. First read this, then I can give some more. He killed 9 students and a guard. 10 people in 120 seconds (the 9th girl died 10 days later from the head injury). He was not bullied. That's official from the Serbian government. He had issues with his mother. In July he had a court hearing via video link from the hospital, testifying about his father's guns. It lasted 4 hours, three victim's families were present with attorneys. His mother joined him in the hospital, he met her the first time in two months, the greeting was cold and he asked her "Are you happy now". He could not explain why he killed the classmates, he said he "felt isolated" and got inspired by the movies like The American Tragedy which he watched the day before the massacre. Police confirmed that. They said he announced the shooting to some gamers he played with, but they did not believe him. They also said he was searching on the internet if he can be punished as under 14 - he can't. Therefore he did it 2 months before turning 14. He had 25 names from different classes, then reduced it to 16 (8 boys and 8 girls), then wanted to "kill them all". He took 4 molotov cocktails to prevent the police from entering the building so that he can finish his job, but he didn't use them. He wounded the history teacher who was always in favor of him, praising him, therefore he didn't kill her. But she is paralyzed now cause he shot her in the hip and abdomen. She has two children. Tatjana Stevanović. He put a girl he dated for 2 months on the list cause she broke with him, daughter of Tatjana Savarese (2 interviews on youtube), the girl is alive, she is from another class and was not in the school that day. Upon being arrested Kosta KECMANOVIĆ said "I'm a psychopath and needed some relief" and "What will my mother say now". Afterwards in the mental hospital for children, he was asking whether he is famous now and when is he coming out. He didn't show any regret or emotions, didn't even ask about his parents. Kosta KECMANOVIĆ moved to this class in January, according to his wish. It is a bilingual class (French/Serbian) for highly talented kids. They hardly knew him and accepted him well. No one there touched him, he was hanging out with some, was invited to birthdays. He also had a trip to France with 10 girls from the school, everything looked fine, his parents were thanking the school. There are pictures of it, "Kosta ekskurzija" is the key word. He also looks older and taller and wears spectacles, not this "poor little sweet kid" cause it's an old photo the media got. The world media didn't update anything since 3.5.23. Therefore these bad comments and presumptions. It is the official statement by the Serbian government from 1.6.2023 that he was not bullied, they did investigate with the school, social workers, his family. His mother never confirmed bullying nor defended him. He was somewhat teased in his previous class and felt ignored, therefore he changed it, but as I mentioned, not by these classmates he killed. Whatever videos are circulating about him being "molested" are fake and not from Serbia. It's not him. His school Vladislav Ribnikar is an elite school for highly talented kids with many extracurricular activities, he was one if them. The conclusion is that he disliked anyone who was better or more popular than himself, cause his parents expected only perfection from him. He put kids he didn't know personally on his list, he had no interaction with them. He comes from a well to do family, his father doctor, mother biology university teacher, they own flats and land, he has a younger sister, a dog, he had a nanny for 10 years. He had everything, but could be that his parents were emotionally cold. He didn't look quite normal at the age 5 either, there is a video of him playing with dolls, he didn't smile once for 6min. Look for Kosta 2015. He loved to watch movies about school shootings and mass murderers, like The Purge, The American Tragedy, about El Chapo etc. He practiced Airsoft with his dad since he was 12 or earlier, there are photos. His father didn't secure the guns properly and is in prison. The bad comments here are nothing; you should see the Arab ones. Fares Ashour, 7ikayat Maro, Kwili, Sinistra, Ameen Hamrouni etc. At least 10 ignorant Arab youtubers spreading lies using fake videos, putting up a story about a poor little boy who was molested for years and had to take justice in his hands. Their videos have millions of views, and thousands of comments mock the victims and "kiss his hand". They caused much harm. Also Indonesian girls adore and defend him for some reason. If you want to get authentic info, read Serbian press in english: Belgrade shooter watched movies about parents' grief Boy from Vračar wanted the death of children for 1 reason telegraf boy murderer Kosta b92 boy murderer Kosta Mina Zirojević said Kosta Open letter by Nina Borojević Kobiljski, Ema's mother Interview with Milanka Negić, Sofija's mother etc. (there are also dozens and dozens of TV talks about this but in Serbian, just see "dečak ubica" - the killer boy, this was the main headline in Serbia for almost three months) I wrote many comments all over the place but nobody cares - fake information and tiktok rule

This is about what a cold cruel and indifferent mother does to a child. She was not nurturing and loving, she only reflected back to him her disdain at his existance. She loathed him from conception! This is why some people should not have children. She had a lot of narcissistic traits or tendencies causing him childhood trauma. She treated the 2nd born better and he took notice! He felt cheated of his mothers love. So he took away those people. Essentially leaving her to feel the loss and emptiness he had felt his whole life.
