Someone called the police on us whilst we were in the woods. What was a pretty chilled out day in the woods with Dad turned into something pretty exciting! Someone had called the Police on us whilst we were making a film and we had no idea we had left one of our camera's running.... Here's the footage.

My mate was a farmer until about five years ago and we'd shot on his land when his dad owned it and then for about thirty years from when my mate inherited it. There wasn't a problem until housing started to encroach on his land. Noise complaints from new people to the village, reports to the police of us carrying guns even when they were cased, verbal abuse from trespassers walking their dogs through pasture containing livestock and crops, verbal abuse from a dog walker when we were loading muntjac into the back of a pick up, verbal abuse for shooting rabbits, the list goes on. People move to the country and have absolutely no idea how the countryside and farming works.

I have grown up in the countryside and lived here my whole life. Im in the process for applying for my FAC. But from the other side of things, not all people who are against certain hunting etc are from "the city" or something. I do not advocate fox hunting, Ive personally come across ditches filled with shot pheasants as people wanted to shoot them but not eat them, hounds hit by cars and complete assholes of riders. So just want to point out that many people do not like when people go out shooting etc. Let's not pretend everyone out there hunting is doing it for management and pest control etc. I remember when I moved into a new area and met some of the locals, one was a farmer who was telling me his love of snaring birds, when I asked him why he didnt really have an answer for it. Other land owners wanted to shoot birds of prey because they interfered with pheasant numbers etc. I mean I could go on. I understand the need to control pests but on the other hand you can hardly whine about rabbits while also shooting foxes. Point is, plenty of people dont like hunting and have lived their whole life in the countryside. Many people shoot animals as a sport, not because of necessity. I'm not saying all, just offering an insight into why some people have a problem with it.

About 15 years ago one of my colleagues bought a small woodland just like you, When he 1st arrived there were locals walking their dogs through his land but he didn’t mind. he built a small cabin in the middle of it and used it for somewhere for him and his family to hang out over the weekends. [camp out, have a barbecue, drink a few beers etc] Then a short while later the council turned up to check what he was doing on the land and checked the cabin he had built. [someone had reported him to the council] Everything was fine, he knew exactly what he could legally do on the land so the council went away happy. His next step was to put barbed wire fencing up at every access point with signs saying keep out, private, no trespassing. When next he met a local dog walker outside they complained that he shut the land off from them using it, To which he replied, “I was fine with you lot going through and walking your dogs until one of you interfering bast*#ds reported me to the council, so from now on my attitude is none of you are welcome anymore, stay off of my land and keep your nose out of my business” Moral of the story….. as usual it only takes 1 interfering busybody to stick their nose in and screw things up for everyone else.

Remember someone calling the police on me about 20yrs ago, out shooting with my kids with a borrowed BSA Meteor Super Sport. Just tin cans against an old railway embankment. I was still in the army at the time, fully qualified to run ranges and not long returned from a 6 month tour in Iraq. I was quite surprised at the response. Firstly my daughter noticed people on mountain bikes on the otherwise of the river which to me, just didn't seem right. I immediately clicked it was 2 plod. So gun in its cover and away we went. As we got up the top of the railway embankment looking across the fields to a sports centre on the other side of the river, there were several police cars and vans blue lights going pulling into the car park at high speed (possibly armed response) well thought to myself "best not hang around here" stashed the rifle in the bottom of a hedge row, and we walked back to the car easily vading the plod. Returned early the next morning and picked the gun up lol

Police attended my house due to an incident on my street (nothing to do with me). I let them in trying to be helpful and chatted with them as a witness. A week later they came back and knocked on the door and asked to check the rifles i had on the wall (ww1 and ww2 deactivated rifles mounted on walls with certificates and plaques showing what they were underneath along with loads of other military history stuff) because the officer was “concerned what she had seen”. I was annoyed. Told them do they really think I’d have let them in if i had illegal guns on the wall, and would they have visited if i lived in a country home and not an ex council house? Also why did it take them a week to come back? And why when my car has been broken into on the driveway 3 times have they never attended but send 3 officers down to my house about this? It was embarrassing. All my neighbours saw. I’ll never let the police into my home again or speak to them unless i absolutely have to.

@@LifeofMikeOfficial You could take the view that it was a good thing that someone called the police. The interaction with the police was positive. They checked that you had the necessary entitlement to be on the property and to shoot. The person that called the police didn't know who you were and you could have been trespassing. I've a problem with trespassers and poachers and would be greatful for the public to report suspicious behaviour. It's better to have a relationship the police. Back in the day (early 1980's) My brother and I were out shooting with shotguns on land we had permission from the farmer, his son threatened us with trespass and demanded the guns...I told him that with out a licence he would be charged. He then threatened us again (we were 17 and 19) so we gave the guns to him...the police arrived and charged him with assault and possession of a firearm with out a valid licence lol he was warned about this but thought he was right. The farmer apologised to us and said we are always allowed to shoot on his land for vermin control.

The neighbours behind our house once called the police because I was cleaning a (dismantled) shotgun after a morning at clays. My Firearms chappie turned up and first went to the neighbours. He informed them that he had known me over ten years and that he'd also regularly shot with me on the same Skeet squad. Their response was an angry 'so you types stick together!' He more or less intimated (best way of putting it) that I had two right assholes living behind.

Great video, I'd love my own patch of woodland. I'd definitely make sure it had no public footpath through it though. You could do with making yourself a target box though? Make it nice and deep (to stop ricochets coming back on your target) with a steel plate at the back for that plinkding. I love the reactive targets that give you a splash of neon yellow when hit. There are also some small disc targets, I think they're called Firebirds, that explode with a real bang. Your Rotex RM8 would set them off very nicely. Do you use Hades pellets at all for pest control? They really open up nicely, better than hollow points or the ballistic tipped ones.

What a fantastic relationship you have, father and son, clearly good friends as well, enjoying time with nature and having fun shooting…..just perfect guys 😊I’m a former Royal Marine and have been a country lad and shooter since I was a boy. Sadly my son doesn’t share my passion for the outdoors and shooting…….he has shot clays with me and had a couple of days on the gun line with me about 8 years ago…….was so proud to shoot with him. I’m a keen stalker, game shooter, vermin controller and PRC shooter…….Last year the police turned up at my house one morning and revoked my certificates and my wife’s…….no reason given. I have served Queen and country for over 40 years……..I was the safest, most respectful and competent shooter you could ask for, massively respected by all I shot with……shooting was my lifelong passion and it’s now been taken from me and I’m devastated…….we don’t know why our certificates have been revoked and we don’t have the money to fight it. Unfortunately we now hate the police with a veracity that is beyond description. Good luck to you both, it warms my heart to see you in the woods together…….father and son how they should be, utmost respect to you both………If only…….☹️🇬🇧

As a police officer, bushcrafter and someone who shoots, it was nice to see the officer have a decent attitude and you be very cooperative. It's far to easy for people to criticise these days. Cops were quite clearly following up a report as they have to. Everything was above board, everyone was decent to one another. No problems whatsoever. With regards to your rifles PCP aren't necessarily more powerful than a springer. 177 has far greater velocity and flies much flatter, and being a smeller pellet will often penetrate more. 22 bigger and slower will hit with more of a thump and likely cause more damage. Great video 👍🏽👍🏽

An old timer died, some townie bought the house and moved in. Within 6months the shoot had to close due to this townie complaining of noise from the shoot. Good video again fellas. The 177 will always out penetrate a 22 of the same power. A good test is using the exact same ammo on both rifles. The 22 will carry more energy down range. When shooting small game with the 177 there is always the risk of over penetration going straight through your quarry whereas a 22 will dump more energy into the quarry. But as long as you are accurate, head, heart and lung shots work fine. Obviously 22 will leave a bigger hole. 177 is more forgiving because of its flatter trajectory with the 22 having more of an arc and the PCP will be more accurate than a springer anyway with pcp bein recoiless as well. If you really want to see the penetration of both rifles going through tins, try RWS Hypermax or Excite Prometheus. They really good if you want to punch through something... On the other hand, iam sure you know the shotgun will make a mess of anything. Happy shooting, all the best from Lancashire.

We got reported to the police many years ago at an offical Airsoft site, as a public footpath ran outside the boundry. Funny thing was an armed response unit turned up, had to trek across half a mile of fields and had to be guided to the site owner by a load of players with AK,s, M16,s etc. They were sound, had a look at some of the gear and just suggested we informed them in future.

Also, the obvious, they don't 'know' it's your land until you state your identity and they confirm the ownership, so if there is a report of an issue they are allowed/obliged to make some preliminary investigations and - as long as it is civil and mutually consensual - you can choose to talk to them or not..they are not allowed to walk into your house without due cause unless you invite them, but until they get close enough (in this case, the wood can be considered the equivalent of a very long driveway) for you to cooperate or refuse to do so, they are hardly 'trespassing' themselves..and of course just because someone 'says' they are on their own property doesn't mean it is so!

I'd love my own patch of woodland, looks like you've got a great crop of wild garlic there too! I'm currently foraging it at the moment, it makes great pesto. Do you have three cornered leek too? The flowers look like white bluebells and the leaves are very narrow, long and pointed. It tastes of onions. With a your woodcraft gear you need to make a pellet trap target box? Make it deep so that you don't get a false hit from ricochets, you can put a steel plate at the back for that plinkding effect. The reactive targets that splash neon yellow are brilliant, plus you can get firebird (?) discs that go bang when you hit them. For pest control/vermin control look at the Hades pellets, they're effectively cross cut hollow points with lots of stopping power. They're better than the ballistic tipped ones. For fun plinking I used to fill a washing up glove full of plaster of Paris and wait until it's set, then peel the glove off. I'd then shoot the fingers off from the tip down. Hazelnuts and walnuts also work really well as they explode! They're also great relative size targets for rabbit/squirrel/pigeon heads. If you get really good then beer bottle tops are a great challenge? As to the police attending? If the officer had said "Do you have any firearms?", I'd have said "no, I don't", then when they asked about the shotgun, I'd have said "that's a shotgun, not a firearm, they're different and require different licences, a fact you should professionally be aware of Officer." "What are you shooting?" "That's an irrelevant question, as it's my land. I can't poach on my own land, another fact you should also be professionally aware of Officer. All you need to know is that I have relevant legal paperwork for the gun that isn't an air rifle within the legal limit." New subscriber.

I don't understand why when receiving an emergency call stating that somebody is taking guns into woodland, in a rural area where shooting is commonplace, the call handler does not just say: "sounds like a perfectly legal activity, please call back if you suspect otherwise."
@user-fq2cf6xf2s
@user-fq2cf6xf2s 25 күн бұрын
Probably because in the UK these days there is no such thing as a legal activity until you have been investigated, interrogated and usually bullied. Only if you can prove that you are innocent, and only after the plod has tried everything to get you on something , maybe you will be left alone to go about your business. Until the next time.

If they had called in that they were going hunting in their forest land prior to doing it, there would have been a record and the CT should have stated this before raising it to the chiefs for their attention (just to get it double checked) If they hadn't, it would have been raised to a chief like all firearms jobs are who would have the sole say in what is going on. (which to cover their arses is normally "Go and check")

Country folk can be real Karen's sometimes. Somebody got me and a couple of friends arrested in North Norfolk for making a table by the side of a road by some woodland. I shit you not. So we could sell stuff at a car boot sale to get money to rent somewhere because we were living in a van. The police arrested us, kept us locked up overnight, questioned us for no effing reason, and wrecked all our shit. Still, I got breakfast and a nice warm nights sleep, so it wasn't all bad.

When rifles are sub 12 ft'lb many break barrel rifles are just as powerful as the PCP rifles though some may only achieve 9.5 to 10.5 ft'lb though it still may be possible to have them adjusted up to 11.5 ft'lb if that is your preference. You also only need a minimum of 3 ft'lb to kill a rabbit or small vermin. There is also the factor that pellet weight can also effect the ft'lb energy, for example a 14.6 grain pellet may only achieve 10 ft'lb and an 18.0 grain pellet may achieve 11.5 ft'lb. A chronograph test of different pellet weights etc will help to find the rifles velocity and ft'lb energy performance.

Watching you two is a memory throwback to my own time with my Dad (❤️R.I.P.) who first introduced me to a pellet gun before later introducing me to a 22 calibre single shot rifle which we used to kill groundhogs with because the groundhog 'holes' presented a threat of a broken leg to any one of our horses and it's no secret what has to happen to a lame horse. 😪

It's a good idea to inform the police before you go, that way they know where you are and can quickly dismiss any nuisance reports of people with guns on said property.. I've had it a few times on some of my permissions.. People have rang the police and they just get told to remove themselves from the property.

Found this content by sheer chance, coincidently, I had been actively seeking recreational land until prices started going up from £6k to £15+k per acre. I also wanted adjacent river or canal acccess. Maybe I might revisit this idea of a recreational asset, however if i do, it won't have public access and never likely too. BTW, the isolation I seek won't be in the remote areas of Wales or Scotland.

I'd like to see a bit more attention to proper firearms safety. Clearing the weapons when handing them over etc. The .22 is likely to carry energy further than the .177, given the same starting middle energy. The springer is more than capable of generating legal limit power levels, so the starting energy is probably pretty similar. The .177 will be traveling faster for the same energy of course. The .22 will drop much more than the .177, simply because it is travelling much more slowly. The .177 will penetrate more because the energy is working over a much smaller frontal area, and the velocity is quite high too. The external and terminal ballistic behaviours are actually far more complex than you might imagine, with all sorts of trade offs and compromises. I thought the plod were somewhat more aggressive than they needed to be, and the fact that has the chopper out to a report of "something in a bag, i don't think it's fishing stuff because there's no water" is a worrying waste of resources. I've been choppered a couple of times while it doing legitimate pest control jobs and deer stalking. People need to accept that someone wandering the countryside with a gun is supremely unlikely to be doing so illegally. Firearms licences are so difficult to get, and getting a firearm without one is so difficult for most people, that the chances of anyone having a firearm they're not entitled to is vanishingly small, and the chances of a legitimate fac or sgc holder doing something illegal is incredibly low, because we have to fight so hard to get our licences. People who do manage to get hold of illegal firearms aren't going to take them out to practice (ammunition is difficult to get hold of without a certificate, and most criminals will never fire a weapon in their lives). So if you ever see someone out with a gun, unless they're obviously doing something illegal like sticking up the local garage, don't bother the police with it. All you'll achieve is ruining the shooting, and pissing off a load of coppers who will have to get their boots and cars muddy on a fools errand.

If the person reports a wild camper, the police don't usually bother, other than maybe a welfare check to check you're ok. It's a council matter of it's on public land, not the police's remit. The only reason they'll come out is if someone goes the whole nine yards and reports, 'suspicious activity' then they're obliged to investigate. In the course of a cycle tour I wild camped on public land near Peterborough. Hassled by a local (initially pretending to be a policeman himself, dressed up in pseudo uniform) I continued he was bogus. 2am the police showed up. When they realised I was just wild camping they apologised for waking me up, disturbing me. They said they wouldn't have even come out if someone had just reported a wild camper. But they said the person who reported, reported 'suspicious activity' so they were obliged to investigate. When they first showed up, I didn't initially realise it was the police and I thought I might be being attacked.....again. Relieved when it was the cops. And they were pretty decent. Not high handed and questioning/interrogating. They established I was just a wild camper, not up to no good and left me alone.
