We have the earlier models of compact, mid torque and high torque that cranks out 1500 ft-lbs of breakaway torque. We have never been disappointed with rigid tools. Excellent video!! 👍

Awesome! Ridgid is awesome. I’m invested 100% in M18 and M12, but I was recently asked by a coworker what I’d recommend for a DIYer as he wanted to get into working on his own truck but didn’t wanna spend too much. Ridgid was the first brand that came to mind (Cuz Makita sucks hahaha) and Dewalt is usually a bit pricier. Not to mention the warranty Ridgid offers is frickin awesome. He ended up getting a deal on batteries, a ratchet, drill and I forget what else. Good to see I didn’t steer him wrong haha

I started off my battery powered tool use with Ridgid years ago. The Tools themselves held up but their batteries did not. I bought their 5 PC tool set with two 5amp batteries (I think) but within 4 months first battery died. Took over a month getting it warranted then the charger died. Bought a new battery and charger then the second original battery died. I never did get Ridgid to warrant that one. I finally gave up and sold the set. Went to Milwaukee and have never looked back. I am looking for a 1/2 impact to carry in the Jeep for off road excursions. Thanks for another great video brother.

I started bought one ridgid drill like 10 years ago and it’s still my workhorse. I didn’t want 10 different batteries so I just kept buying ridgid tools and zero have failed on me. Pretty impressive.

I have the old 3/8" subcompact. It will do lugnuts all day. Love mine and these seem even better. Ridgid is waaaay underated.

@@joeschmoe6908 4 amp. Even my 2 amps do lugnuts. It will ratchet for about a half a second longer than my 4 but it will still take off half ton trucks all day with the 2 amp.

Someone stole my Ryobi so I started buying M18 Milwaukee... I can't believe the difference in power between Ryobi and Milwaukee... Though the Milwaukee seems about twice as expensive for just the tool. If I were to have bought a Ryobi, it's about 1/2 the price and would have usually come with a battery and charger. LOL

I'd like to see a comparison between the 3/8" Rigid R872071 and the 3/8" Milwaukee 2854-20. I remember the Milwaukee taking off a nut you had torqued to 500lb/ft with the welded adapter.

I got some anecdotal data of compact vs mid torque 8 lug nuts torqued to 140 ft lbs on a dodge ram 2500. Tool used was the dewalt dcf 921, 891 and 900. Can the compact 921 do it? Absolutely but it will take about 40 to 45 seconds to remove all 8 lug nuts. For an average of 5 to 6 seconds per lug (and removing the lug nut from the socket and repositioning the tool.) Both the dcf891 and 900 did these same 8 lug nuts anywhere from 20 to 22 seconds. For an average of 2.5 to 2.7 seconds per lug nut removed, removal of the lug nut from the socket and repositioning the tool into a new socket. But only enough the mid torque tend to be a hair faster than the high torque. Why? Because power wasn’t an issue for either or tool. And even if the high torque removed the socket a hair faster. The extra weight slows you down when moving the tool to a new position, making it a wash. So yes if you’re a tire tech and lube use the mid torque or bigger. Yes the compact can and will do it. But you’ll be twice as slow.

That 1/2 didn't struggle too much at 500ft. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the videos I've seen on your channel this is the only sub compact to hit that mark (excluding the Stubby 3/8 welded adapter vids) even topping the Dewalt DCF921. I was about to pick that up, but have a bunch of Ridgid Octane 3.0 High Output Batteries that can give it a bit more boost with the 21700🔋's👍🏻

@@isaiahpalo2797 LOL...Nah bro that tool of yours is pretty cool especially when you pair it with the smaller powerstack. I was kinda messing with seeing how large the footprint will be by placing a 3.0 Octane battery under the Stubby it's pretty funny looking, but I don't mind it since I'll generally be using it in easy to reach area's. I normally run my stubby's with 6.0 boot style batteries then slap the smaller torpedo style when squeezing into some tight spots. Hopefully Ridgid comes out with a newer 3.0 that is similar in size to the Milwaukee 3.0 HO. The bare tool is $150 pretty decent price. I just wonder how much more beans it has with the 3.0 or the new 8.0 EXP it's pretty impressive for sure.

The way it didn't struggle with 500ft really impressed me since the Dewalt with a 5Amp was struggling at it's 450ft Max 👍🏻

@@globman3 I'm going to pick up that 1/2 inch and rock it with a 3.0 Octane. Seems to be a bit more powerful than the Dewalt DCF921 and the Newer Milwaukee compact kinda cool. I do have the Stubby 3/8 and was looking at picking up the Dewalt 1/2. Didn't even know this was coming out so this will save me some 💰 plus I do like the Tri Lights.

@@globman3 that’s fair, but imagine having an 8ah battery for you other tools and it’s a possibility. Also no reviewer is using the only one that’s 21700 cells even on the full size. Look at torque test, project farm, this channel, etc and you’ll see they keep using 2.0 and 6 vs other brands that use 21700 🤣

Would you say these are more powerful than the old subcompact, or are they just new now that ridgid has canned the Octane tools? I have the old one and I like it, but it struggles often on things I work on. To me the only reason to get one of these is the size (duh), but there aren't that many situations I find it useful due to it's limited power. I find myself reaching for a breaker bar more often, or a long-handled ratchet.

Ive had this for a few months. Watched videos on it. It doesnt crack bolts that are over 150. Idk if its cause i get frustrated and just grab the high torque. But its only useful in tight spaces.

I bet you that 3/8 drive would do the 450 if you use no adapter and actually had the right 3/8 socket TTC has done test on this. Or low profile adapter may give you more torque too they've shown that also. Definitely like the Tri-Beam LED on the face much better than the one by the trigger. And watch your own video The thing wasn't moving at 7 or 8 seconds It took a whole 15 plus to get it to move. Which you always do I don't know why you don't put in a beeping alarm at 10 seconds so you know when to stop

As a plumber I've used Rigid's tools forever, best tubing cutters by far, tripod vise, and pipe wrenches obviously. Their power tools have been lacking, but this Impact is worth it. If you already have another brand consider this fact and it's not close, Rigid's cordless 3 gallon shop vac absolutely destroys Milwaukee's, Makita's, Bosch's, and Dewalts. Btw, as a DeWalt user, their cordless shop vac is embarrassing, no power at all, sad really.

I think the standard battering for Ridgid are the 4 amp ones, the regular ones, you should have tested those.

Just trying to learn a bit. How can you get 500 ft/lbs of torque but some of the other videos I'm seeing can't come close to matching this? Not knocking anyone. Genuinely trying to learn. Debating btwn this and the mid-torque Ridgid. Would rather have this to save space in the truck if it's truly 500 ft/lbs...thanks!!!

Can you do a back-to-back comparison with its main rivals - M12 Stubby, M18 Compact, previous generation subcompact, Dewalt DCF921, etc. with your newest testing methodology or overlay the results in your videos? From watching your videos, it seems the ranking would be the new Ridgid Subcompact, M18 Compact, Dewalt DCF921, M12 Stubby? I'd also like to see what the Makita XWT14Z maxes out at on your test setup as it was only tested to its max rating.

I bought that impact especially to remove my lug nuts on my truck, but it’s to weak. If I tried it on a car lug nut no problem. So I need to upgrade to a bigger one.

I've been slowly letting my Kobalt tools die off but am not ready to invest in the red brand yet. I use my tools for personal use not making money. Rigid is slowly coming into my view and these look great! For the price is there anything else out there other then the kobalt stuff? Kobalts great don't get me wrong, but slow to keep up and I've had a few batteries die out. Warranty is solid though.

How do you choose between 3/8 or 1/2" Subcompact? Anyone know the benefits in choosing either? is it smaller available impact sockets with 3/8"?

It's really a preference. If you typically use an impact on 9/16" (15mm) and smaller fasteners, then I'd definitely stick with the 3/8". If you're using it mainly for lugnuts and wheels, then I'd get the 1/2". Thanks for watching

Do these new impact wrenches have the extra terminals to talk to the max output batteries? The R87208 / R87207 do not.

likely didn't watch deep enough, but mode 1 is slower = turning more slowly. So mode one delivers the most torque. Torque is reliant on the ratio of power to ratio of turning gear applied - hence the slowest speed will deliver the highest amount of torque.

If I am reading it correctly, the 1/2" is ratted for 250 ft lbs of nut busting and you topped out at what 400 or 450, that is not too bad to be honest.

I love all of my Ridgid tools and more than likely adding one of these to the arsenal. Now with the LSA, according to sources the big box HD is NO LONGER accepting Ridgid tools for service and you have to hunt for a service center to have them fixed or replaced

Ive had 4 of these subcompact impacts that all will randomly reverse while in forward mode. Customer service doesn't believe me. Anyone else have this experience?

They are both under TTI. Milwaukee is the bigger brother. Ridgid supposedly detuned all the newer tools because some of the old Gen models were pretty much the same if not more powerful than Milwaukee. In this case the 1/2 is putting down some serious beans more than Milwaukee or Dewalt 🤯. Yes they have similar looking top halves although Milwaukee does have the TrueView Tri Led's that I do enjoy better than the Ridgid. I own both.

@@hellothere4342That new Midtorque that Dewalt dropped is a beast for sure. I run Milwaukee High Speed ratchets and they are a game changer for sure. Will be picking up a 3/8 extended HS version soon. Have both Ridgid and Milwaukee High Torques and New Midtorque, but I hardly ever use them since my 3/8 and 1/2 Stubby's pretty much remove 98% of the fasteners on most passenger vehicles LOL. That's why the 1/2 Ridgid compact is next on my list. Small Light and for sure a bit more powerful using a 3.0 Octane battery it should be a winner.

I don't think so. I have both those DeWalt impact wrenches. While the DeWalt wrenches are nice, they don't seem to have quite as much power as these do. Plus I believe these are a tad smaller. I'll likely pick up the 1/2" anvil version. Thanks Tim. Nice video.

@@El_Diablo_LI Right now dewalt is killing everyone with their new impacts. The atomic compacts crushed the Milwaukee compact and gen 1 Ridgid compact. As did their new mid torque and high torque. We’ll see how it tests in test torque channel, but my money is on dewalt.

@@juanc5149 Sure, DeWalt's new full size impact wrenches are awesome and some of the best out there. But that's not the category that was tested here. So you trying to compare those to these is apples vs oranges. The fact is, these new small Rigid sub compact impact wrenches outperform the DeWalt Atomic 921 and 923 impact wrenches. And with the lower prices and LSA it's a no brainer. The DeWalt Atomic 921 and 923 are nice wrenches but these Rigid wrenches are better on almost every point. Does that mean you should get rid of your DeWalt wrenches if you're already in that platform? Definitely not. That would be crazy. But if you're already in the Rigid platform, or in the market for some new battery impact wrenches and you see these on sale, I'd jump on them. The other nice thing is occasionally you'll see these Rigid tools for much lower prices with a hack at Home Depot during holiday tool sales. And even better, Tools Direct will have them as "factory blemished" which means still brand new and eligible for the same LSA for 50% off or more during certain sales making these a steal of a bargin for around $75 each when found during one of those sales. Sorry if your feelings got hurt about your DeWalt tools but the numbers and facts speak for themselves.

Faster charging probably isn't really a good thing and really another battery is really what you need and are you going to go thru that battery before the other battery is charged especially if you are not neglectful and don't just have dead batteries sitting around

We still believe in a better charger. Better chargers typically also have battery/charger management built in with cooling capabilities. Not only will they charge faster, but they do it safer as well. Thanks for watching.

i havent seen the video yet, and no matter what the test results will be, ill still be very skeptical about these. whenever marketing needs to invent a new product category to sell something, something's wrong with the product. the better something is, the less advertisement and marketing it needs, and that relationship obviously goes the other way as well.
