Spring is near, but we're running out of firewood on the Off Grid Homestead. Watch this week as we work hard to cut up enough firewood to make it through the rest of winter. Ryan starts prepping for milling season by moving snow and sharpening blades. Another great week, we're living life and loving it!!

A couple of suggestions. 1) make sure you install something impervious along the bottom of the foam, I’ve seen critters get into the foam and make nests. In the past I’ve used an 2x2 L shape flashing secured to the wall and then taped to the foam at the front side. 2) Tape the seams of the foam to prevent water intrusion past the sheets. If you have any gaps between the sheets, fill them with foam, let it cure and then tape it. 3M made a good tape for foam. 3) When you guys install your battons over the foam, make sure you make relief cuts across them so that there is a way for water to move through them, and a bug proof air gap at the top and bottom. The battons I used to get from lumber yard had a cut 1/4x1/4 about every foot. I’ve been a builder for over 20 years, and have built a lot of high performance homes. People don’t realize how much moisture gets behind the siding. It is critical that there is a way for the water to escape or else it can cause major problems down the road (I’ve seen siding blown of the wall because water froze behind the siding and caused it to fail).

You guys own some great equipment and you aren't afraid of hard work. After insulating the ceiling and wrapping the exterior with the foam board you will use 1/2 the amount of firewood. GOOD LUCK GUYS, PLEASE WORK SAFELY‼️🚜🇺🇸 MAGA 2024 Vinny 🇺🇸

If your stove can handle coal I would suggest getting a couple of tons and burn that. Coal heats very well and you don't have to burn a fire wide open to get the heat you need. Acoal fire can idle and give off lots of heat..just a suggestion..love your home and all of your adventure videos.❤❤❤❤

Very nice you two! My dad would set the bead on tires using lighter fluid. My luck I would probably burn down our tractor, but it seemed to work for him. It’s funny how fast the weather changes. Getting a lot more light now. From a video or two back that’s nearly a +70-degree change in temps! Kobuk looks happy and a little lost with his buddy! Have a great week and thanks for sharing!

The lighter fluid (for cigarette lighters not charcoal) works. Another way to do it is to use a ratchet strap around the tire to force the beads on the rim while inflating.

My dad used to get login trucks loads of fire went back in the late 70s early 80s and he was Logging truck driver so he got it fairly good price on it cuz it was from the same company but back then it was$ 600 a load 10 to 12 chords of wood I imagine what it is now and that was for for hemlock and yellow cedar only

Hello , why did you do the wood in two pieces? There is no better result than to start a fire with smaller pieces. But for starting the fire you have enough dry wood in the wood barn. It also will not dry more than it is now. Kind regards, love your work and videos a lot!

That's a good full body workout with the firewood. Tip for if you tire pops off again and you can't get it to seat- take a strong rachet strap, put it around the middle of the treads around the whole tire, and rachet it as tight as you can. That will eliminate the air gap to pop it back in place. Keep up the great work!

I had envisioned a stanchion for your panels, but, putting them on the roof of your saw shed, well, that's just genius! Now I'm thinking a saw shed with solar panels, and then a shed to hack your sawn lumber in out of the elements, more panels, And when you have enough storage for lumber, another shed for firewood (your slabs), and or a shed for your out door equipment, All with solar on top. That should net you plenty of solar. Just make the roofs steep enough to shed snow easily and easy to clean off. Make a plan, so it's done once, and bury conduit for the wires going to your solar shed, so there will be room to add as you build. Pretty soon, and it might take years, you will have a really nice property that will be paying for it's self. I didn't realize that you were wrapping your home with foam. That should really make it a lot warmer with less firewood. Looking forward to future build videos!
