I never owned a dog but I was scarred feeding animals, I freaked on on white friends for giving their dogs cookies! And it took me almost a full decade to learn they were allergic to chocolate. I want a podcast episode dedicated to Leffen’s crimes and why other FGC communities such as Guilty Gear should ban him
@autoimmunedefficiencysyndrome
@autoimmunedefficiencysyndrome Жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, if there's anyone that deserves some blacklisting treatment: it'd be Leffen. However why? Don't bans defeat the purpose of constructive dialogues, and take away room for someone to grow in a community and receive critical feedback on their actions in real time? I think everyone would be better off if we only banned serious criminals (like maybe nairo) - and just tried to start serious dialects with problematic people.

@autoimmunedefficiencysyndrome
@autoimmunedefficiencysyndrome Жыл бұрын
@shaunalbert7681 I guess it depends on your definition of serious criminal offenses. Ppl in the states get locked up for jaywalking - so clearly there's degrees of felony and civil violations that depend on the context. I think if critical and careful consideration is given to every side and the facts - that leffen should he banned. I think my main point is we as a community should advocate less to immediately ban someone and more to start multifaceted discussions that use dialectalism to synthesize information from all sides before outright calling for bans. Leffen was a poor example for me to defend tho, prolly should be banned.

This is a great episode. Even if I was coming at this from the perspective of "all 3 of these people are deplorable human beings" (which I don't) it would still be interesting to hear the perspective of those in such unique positions as the 3 of you. It's of course even more engaging that the experience the 3 of you have with the same community overlap so heavily, it creates a lot of interesting back and forth. I've been starved to hear Sky. I don't mean Sky Williams content, I mean Sky himself. He's got a very rare level of introspection, analysis, and objectivity, even on issues or topics relating to himself, which is very difficult to do. After being so deathly curious about how he's doing and how he views his situation, hearing him extrapolate so heavily on these topics for over 2 hours was an immediate breath of fresh air. If you're reading this ZeRo, please send Sky Williams my regards.

@RecordToDeathToBoredom Жыл бұрын
First of all, great podcast. I love all of you and the way you all have grown up. You all had to grow through unfair hardships and came out better people. That's admirable af. Sky is really wise. He knows what he's talking about. The one issue I have is him accepting that they are necessary sacrifices for the better of the community. What makes the community better is not sacrificing lambs, but addressing the issues and building a better foundation upon it. Sacrificing is only a temporary veil that people consider a "fix". Sacrificing others has NEVER in any century, fixed anything. What fixes things is looking past people's faults and helping fix each other. What is it people think when they think "a proper human being"? Sacrificing oneself is a different story. It's not someone who attacks others, that's for sure. All those people that just use buzz words to cancel people are attacking people, so they're not proper human beings. A proper human being is respectful. You can see that, right? Everybody needs to and has to learn what it means to be human. And if someone like Leffen doesn't want to be fixed, then they should be outed; banned from the community. Creating a safe space and having the peace in mind of security would be the best result, but it requires professionalism. It requires everybody to own up and be better. It's a lot of work. If there was hired security, that'd help a lot. But with how poor the community is, it's not happening. The reason Nintendo pulled out is because they don't know what to do with the smash community. But the first thing to do is to put up guidelines for a healthy community. A community that bans people just because they don't like them is not a healthy community. A community that gives praise to those that are making trouble, causing trouble, and digging through the past for trouble, is not a healthy community. If you disagree, then you need to ask yourself "Are these the traits of a healthy community?" Now even after saying all this, I'm not expecting ZeRo or any of these guys to do anything about it. I'm just trying to spread awareness of a better understanding to what is and isn't acceptable. We already have plenty of examples to go off of.

I disagree with Sky on the old friend dropping you because of a sponsor. Sure I understand it's for the betterment of their career but a real friend wouldn't just drop you. A true friend would talk to you and ask you straight up "hey did you do this? and if so why?" Then if they're disgusted by it but they know you as a person for X amount of years and they know the you now would never, they'd say "hey man I don't really have words for you right now so lets take some time away from each other, I'll talk to you later." That's a alot better than "Oh I can't associate with you because of my sponsor man." In my experience you find out who your real friends are when you're at your lowest. those are the real ones that would take a bullet for you and vice versa. the guy who dropped ZeRo because of his sponsor may have hurt like a knife but I think you're better off without him bro. Because what he did to you is the same thing his "friends" will do to him. Not wishing it on him but that's usually how it goes.

Maybe in m2k’s mind they weren’t even as great of friends as zero feels. We don’t know and until he himself says something we won’t. please stfu.

Yo Zero I don’t know if you will see this but I swear to god Inui ended up in Wisconsin around 2015ish. Played smash a bunch with the dude but he ended up getting his hands on a bunch of hard drugs and started bringing samurai swords to tournaments. I have a few other stories but they won’t fit in this comment. Anyway dude straight up became homeless and assaulted another homeless guy and ultimately served some time. He eventually moved back in with some family I think in Arizona? Yeah again doubt you will ever see this but I saw first hand the end of that dudes career lmao.

I’ve had family in jail for _literal murder_ . I’ve worked in a prosecution office, sat in court rooms, watched judges handle cases way more severe then Zero’s. What happens? You go through the justice system, you take the punishment you’re given, you change yourself to make sure it never happens again, and then life *moves on* . Cancel culture is a fools court. Random outraged people online who don’t have all the facts cannot be judge, jury, and executioner. That mentality is so far removed from the real world.

Listening to the discussion about PC culture in Smash and seeing Sky's video on the idubbbz/Tana situation from 2017, I have to add something. Have in mind that I'm not American, but I believe the average american progressive view of racism is very naïve. For example: blackface was invented by Dan Emmett in the 19th century, the composer of Dixie (and a less known song in which he praises slaves' freedom -- yeah, I know that sounds weird but let's just say slaves were expensive property and WASP culture was too tight for most poor whites -- called I'm Going Home to Dixie), and he has many compositions and minstrel shows that actually showed slaves as people he admired. He moved states (I'm sorry I don't remember which states) because of the Civil war and came in contact with black culture, which he loved because it wasn't moralizing and it was free, and tried to incorporate into his circus stuff. This kind of art was actually very subversive at the time, and most journals didn't like it because it spread "bad values" (values from black communities). It is a pity that being marginalized often is seen as necessarily being oppressed, because slaves and people like Dan Emmett, who certainly paid some price to show the culture of slaves to the rest of America, were definitely marginalized, but they were absolutely key to developing American culture. And look, I really admire American culture, but progressivist ideology just isn't... true. You guys should ditch it. PS.: As I said, I'm not American, but I've always been interested in how much the US exports progressivism to shithole countries like mine when there is such a lot of interesting and inspiring stuff in there that would be much more interesting. Edit: most of the stuff I mentioned here is on a book called The Renegade History of the United States.

Let me add as a Black American, specifically a Black American born and raised in the South, we don't give a shit how "good intended" you foolishly want to believe Dan Emerett's "version" of blackface was because you read it in a book. You want to call American progressives naive but this entire comment on American racism -- from a non-American at that????-- is peak naivety in and of itself. Since you want to bring up Dan Emerett, let's talk about how he was instrumental in making minstrel shows internationally known. Even made his own minstrel troupe! Did he incorporate actual black people (possibly "Free Blacks" as non-enslaved black people were called around the time) into his troupe which would have been bare BARE minimum to do? Nope! Just made his own minstrel troupe that continued perpetuating the general purpose of minstrel shows. His shows were no better than the typical minstrel shows heavily popular around the time -- all pushing further stereotypes and caricatures of black people that were still being oppressed for a main white American audience who saw other white people pretending to be other living beings who happened to have a different skin color as "entertainment," and profited off spreading such stereotypes & caricatures not through just shows but also through actual merchandise (there are museums who have well documented postage stamps and postcards with blackface caricatures on them) that were lining their own pockets, not going back into the very group of people they were pretending to be (we call that "exploitation"). Even American presidents, the same ones who owned slaves, watched minstrel shows. The proof being one of Emerett's songs ironically becoming very popular in the South that they used it as a campaign song against Lincoln (see how you greatly underestimate American ignorance). We don't care if you want to argue Emerett's "good intentions" were in upholding positive stereotypes about blk ppl because if a society is doing everything within its power to mock, belittle, and dehumanize blk ppl's societal standing and reinforce it as a collective, what makes you think a "positive" minstrel show was going to change anything about the general purpose of minstrel shows -- mocking and reinforcing the low social standing and image of black people off as mere "entertainment?" I can go there and also point out how in today's time, "positive" stereotypes and caricatures of other races in general are just as harmful as negative stereotypes because they still establish certain expectations within these groups (ex.: "Black people are good at basketball", "Asians are good at math"), and if you are an outlier within that race who doesn't meet those positive expectations, then ppl tend to socially perceive you as less talented, less intelligent, or with less social worth. AKA even with "positivity," you still get out in a box. Respectfully, I don't know what it is with Non-Americans (because you're not the first one I've seen attempt to do this from the comfort of their non-American home/land) trying to interpret and act as if they have an understanding of how racism in America operates, especially adding their own two cents none of us certainly asked for, but fucking stop because it shows off the same ignorance the rest of the world teases Americans about. America's brand of racism goes beyond one facet. It's literally built (like slaves built the White House) and shaped this country from the ground up culturally, financially, and politically. It's also vastly different from how racism operates in other countries as it's not the same as apartheid in South Africa nor is apartheid the same as Brazil's mixture of racism and classism. Reading about it in a book and trying to give a stance on the nuances regarding America's history with racism is entirely different from actually living here or experiencing it here because if you tried to tell a black person "This guy was doing something positive with his minstrel show," you would get laughed at like the naive clown you don't believe yourself to sound right now. So if you feel inclined once more to give any two cents about racism, do it about how racism -- or it's first cousin, colorism! -- operates in YOUR own country because I can guarantee it's there. I agree there's a degree of naivete to American progressivism, specifically white American progressivism, but as a Black progressive myself, I wasnt gonna let you slide in some dumb ass shit about how not all minstrel shows were bad when they all facilitated and partook in spreading false notions about black people that were being inflicted upon them by the same group enslaving them, the same group ostracizing them from moving up the social class through policies and laws (and in extreme cases, stealing land from black ppl and bombing black neighborhoods later on), and the same group of people who assigned those same false notions onto black people. Also, one last thing: the U.S. is far removed from being progressive. Not when there are European countries who are far more progressive and dare I say more "democratic" in actual policies and practices than the U.S. The U.S.'s main problem right now is it has reached hypercapitalism. That's what the U.S.'s main export is: Capitalism. It's why all these shitty podcasts (not talking about Zero cus I enjoyed this), shitty remakes, and now with Twitter's new monetization, shitty social media hot takes are all over the place because now it's become easier to profit off attention rather than substance or providing a service. It's why people on spectrums of the political extremes are obnoxiously platformed in comparison to 20 - 50 years ago.

As an OG smasher in the SoCal scene, having housed and been at many of those "sus" housing/hotel events... You would be surprised how many of your favorite smashers would get canceled lol. Not just for "sexual age" stuff but racism as well, those that didn't get caught just got lucky people didn't keep receipts. The things that were "acceptable" at the time obviously weren't going to fly a decade later when things get put under a microscope. We just cared about playing the game of Smash as a whole, shit just happened unfortunately because of people taking advantage of the situations. I wish I still had all of my old Allisbrawl videos that were lost on there lmao. BIG FACTS Larry would be safe, he was such a chill guy back then even in friendlies; not the same could be said about Tyrant though as Sky was trying to compare lol. Also I already know what that Spicyness was... LOL yeah keep that out, it's not edited enough cut more of it.
