We finally got the big garden tilled...well sort of. The tiller didn't dig deep enough because of the land being fallow for so many years. We will need a turning plow to cut the soil deeper and then the tiller will work like it's supposed to.

Thank You for reply! I found the store! Lots to chose from. Tee’s most say slim fit. I found one I think says classic fit. But I can order 2 sizes larger. Have to wait till 1st of month till SS gets here! I see children sizes? Granddaughters ages:9,6,5. Would toddler size fit them? Or, order small ladies size? Thank You 🙏🏻

@@joetownsend- Yay! So glad you liked them. I'm not sure about the children's sizes, but there is a toddler and a children's shirt to choose from. And both have s size guide you can look at for measurements. It's just above the sizes on the right of the page-it's sort of grayed out so not the easiest to see. Hope you have a great day!

Some folks don't understand Biblical principles. Astronomy is Biblical, as in signs of the seasons. Astrology is wicked because God speaks against mystics, witches, spirits and such. Jesus spoke of the seasons in the gospels. Signs in the constellations to plant or harvest and other things. Of course it ain't evil, the moon and stars have been used since the beginning of time to tell tides, navigate and sow crops. You folks just keep on educating the uneducated, and have a good time while you're at it.

When I was growing up we would hire someone to turn and harrow our garden spot. That was much cheaper than buying an expensive tractor.

They ain't gonna take their money with em to heaven. Spend it on what they want and accomplish their goals is to be commended. There is something to be said for independence and counting on getting it done right.

@@StuartMaynard-zb5tr It is a matter of what makes the most economic sense. If you only need a tractor to do one little job a year, it is much cheaper to hire someone to do it. If you have a larger place where you will be using a tractor quite a bit, it makes sense to buy one.

When I was growing up, our big garden got plow turned over every year and then disked with the tractor. When Dad started to plant he would use the rototiller. We always had big crops of corn, tomatoes, beans , cucumbers, potatoes, onions and many more vegetables. He always planted potatoes on Good Friday. Your garden will definitely be better plowed. Love your Sunday videos of you and Matt talking. Y'all seem like family to me and my husband. We are 76 and 77 and still garden. It's in the blood, and love it. ❤❤️🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽

I have the same set up you have. I had a neighbor come over and stand on the back of the tiller after I did the third till. He weighed about 210 pounds or so. Made a big difference. I still wanted to go deeper, so it set the tiller down level. I put some big rocks on the back of that tiller. Probably had about 400 pounds on the back of it. That did the trick! I had to Southern rig it to get the rocks to stay, which wasn’t hard. A few tiedown straps and a chain. So after my second or third, season of doing this, I use some black tarps. Put them down about 2 1/2 months or so before last frost. That pretty much kills the weeds or at least gets the weed pressure down. After my third or fourth year, pow! Now is a good time just to turn the soil. Let’s the worms and stuff come back. Kind of seems like a waste of a tiller after doing it for a couple of years but it is what it is. Also use a tiller to make a path here and there to plant corn and what not. It’s the first time I’ve seen your channel. I’m a new subs and liking it!

Nah, I agree with you, Tipper; I think Matt just doesn't realize how much improvement comes with just plugging along, every day, doing it over and over again, and working out better ways, more efficient ways to do our work. And the garden is just that way, too. Sure some years are better, but you are still learning better ways every time you do it.

An Arsh tater should be stored cool (like in a rathskeller)and a sweet tater should be stored in a warmer place such as a pantry off the kitchen.. That's what farm folk always said. A rathskeller would be a good project for Matt. You seldom see them these days just like you don't often see smokehouses. Another way that folks kept garden produce for the winter was to dig a hole in the yard and put cabbage, and root vegetables in it. They would line the hole with straw and cover it with more straw then throw an old rug over it to hold the straw in place. When refrigerators and freezers came along it changed the dynamic of keeping food. Love y'all.

Underneath your house is a good place to store potatoes. Put down a sheet of plastic or pieces of plywood to keep them off the ground. We used to pick up potatoes from potato farms where I grew up. After they gathered their crops they would let anyone come and get what was left behind. We did that and Daddy would spread them out under the house. They lasted a long time. Mama always had potatoes to cook. That was in the late sixties into the seventies.

Planting by the signs from the moon, sun and earth, that God Gave Us, has nothing to do with the occult! You guys are wonderful. Dont let anyone bother you. God bless you and your family.

GOOD LUCK ON THE CORN CROP. I moved from New Orleans to Central Indiana in 11/2017 & THE CORN I BUY IS THE BEST CORN I'VE EVER EATEN. It literally MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH & IT'S THE SWEETEST I EVER EATEN & I grew up on a farm eating corn & veggies from the garden & fields. Good luck & God bless you all.

I bottle broke and potty trained my kids by the moon. Would never do it any other way! While everyone we knew was struggling with these things, we sailed right through. My Appalachian granny was a genius! My daughters-in-law did the same, on my advice and now my grandkids are doing it too.

That was the best answer I believe I've ever heard. When you asked Matt, what else you gonna want for it, and he said "whatever they make". Get em all the attachments and he can run an add in the paper to hire out for local folks. Next he'll need a bush hog and hay bailer. Big money in grass.

Our family has always planted by the signs. It sure makes a difference in the yield you get. My Dad & I always got our haircut in certain signs. Dad planted onions in the wrong sign & when he went out the next morning, they were on top of the ground.

I remember my Daddy always would say he had to plant the potatoes by St. Patrick’s day. If he didn’t have them in the ground by then they would not do good.

I observe the signs too. Our ancestors knew this and it just seems that some plants thrive better. Other plants that are more prolific will grow regardless of when you plant. Herbs do best for me planted by signs

I so enjoy your videos, especially just chatting together with Matt and your sweet daughters. I too am a mother of twins boy and girl , later our younger daughter now a retired RN. This is farm and dairy country so gardening and digging up the dirt is very familiar to us. Matt looks so happy with his new tractor 🙏🏻🇺🇸

You always have to check the ground for arrow heads after its been plowed. We always did. I just bought some grow bags and going to try to grow potatoes. We have a garden too but If I can get them to grow in the bags, it will be easier for me to harvest them. Thanks so much for the video!
