Maybe, i am not used to it & maybe i didn’t grew up learning that or get used to speak it.. Tagalog of course i do speak & understand.. You have a good teacher/tutor with you there & i am sure she will patiently teach everything that you need to know & give answer to every questions you ask from her.. Keep it up! both of you & your husband.. I hope your children will find interest in learning Bisaya too one day.. Especially, you are living there in Davao, Samal Island.. That is their main dialect there.. Ilonggos has some similar words to bisaya but, they have their own accent, pronunciation & it’s meaning just like what your teacher said to you & to Sergei.. Remember this Val, in Philippines we have so many dialect words that we used & speak that’s why maybe to some foreigners who come to the Philippines are trying to learn and understand but, to some it’s confusing.. I am happy that you guys are learning Bisaya. Don't listen to anyone telling you learning Bisaya is a waste of time. A large portion of Visayas and Mindanao speak Bisaya. Many persons don't speak Tagalog in those places because there is no one in their family or friends who speak Tagalog regularly so they are not forced to learn or speak Tagalog. Regarding Accents: Bisaya speakers accent vary, for example, the Davao Bisaya accent is softer than Bol-anon (from Bohol) or the Cebu. In my opinion, the softest accent is the Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) accent in Visayas and Mindanao. In fact it is so soft that people often joke that when the Iloggo speakers are already angry, you will never know. Tagalog soeakrs accents also vary. It depends on location.

Ilonggo is an iloilo language. If you were in iloilo you are an ilonggo, and do speak ilonggo. People in Mindanao do speak ilonggo language, but they were not ilonggos people. The language they spoke was Hiligaynon an another term that might be considered as ilonggo.

Technically correct hehehe that most of the bisaya poeple have a harder or rougher accent , its the way pronounce words it more clear and hard...and there's I think one thing similar, bisaya and russians are emotional I guess when speaking, biasaya people tends to speak and express in speaking with more emotions...unlike tagalog they have softer and held back way of expressing or enunciating their words more sweet way I think, but bisaya people was known to have a tougher and braver persona compare to tagalog people...but same goes to other dialects like batangas in luzon, they also speak hard and stronger way of speaking, every dialect has similarities and uniqueness... but since tagalog and bisaya language are more spoken by various people so it's been evolved as well, there are bisaya people who speaks softer bisaya. and there are tagalog people knows how to replicate the accent... Some people from abroad critized filipino accent esp.when speaking in English, that's same tp you guys.. you just speak English freely with your russian accent..and that same with some local filipino,, thought there are lots of filiipino who are good in English, can naturally speak with American accent or has a neutral accent. She has a different understanding of AFAM, like most people do, she probably doesn't know its meaning or the definition of the letters of AFAM. We use it for all foreigners but they don't really understand the true meaning of the letters "AFAM". They think it's always associated to all white, foreigners who is in the Philippines, regardless of where they are. But the "M" in AFAM is/means MANILA. So to use AFAM correctly for its definition, you have to be in MANILA or working or living there to be called an AFAM.They probably does not know it in Visaya or Samal, but in Manila they definitely know the Letters of AFAM and what it means because this was started by someone over there and it stuck. We love nicknames so that was a nickname they invented to shortened the description of the foreigner. Much like OFW (Overseas Foreign Worker), those would say "I'm an OFW, or they are OFW's.
