This was a very different kind of video and experience. We had a hurricane crashing into our region of Florida, so we documented our experiences as well as the aftermath of the storm once it had passed.

I`m in Louisiana. My first near death hurricane was Betsy in 1965. So I can relate. Very bad storms and always very frightening to be in the eyewall.

Dueling PaleoCris and WildKyle videos! You can tell how serious you all took the situation because whenever Kyle and Cris get together, they really bring out the silliness in each other and that doesn't show here. Stay safe during the cleanup efforts and kudos for providing the links to help people.

That's so sad. I live in Crystal River and we didn't get much wind damage but I think just about every home and business on the west side of hwy. 19 got flooded. I live on the east side of hwy. 19 about a mile as a crow flies from hwy. 19 and I didn't even lose power. Our county was very lucky that Hurricane Idalia didn't follow its first projected path where it had it hitting us to Ceder Key directly. I believe there would have been a major loss of lives if it had. I hate it for those up near you that got hit but thank goodness it wasn't a heavily populated area like here in Crystal River. Thanks for documenting this, I've spent a lot of time camping and stuff up in that area and it sucks seeing those places damaged like that, I hope it all gets rebuilt.

Given how often the southern areas get hit so often I am surprised that your power is not all underground. They have do that in some of the tropical areas of Australia for this reason.

That torn up asphalt is _exactly_ why you'll hear people say not to drive through flood waters. If the current is strong enough to lift up the road like that, your vehicle doesn't stand a chance.

I am glad you are taking the time to do a before and after a hurricane and how it changes the landscape. It's almost like you can feel the intensity building as the storm approaches landfall. Well, that was interesting viewing the damage after the storm. I never have been through one and I have no desire to do so. It seems every area has their particular weather/nature challenges. Obviously, we learn to adapt if we survive the initial storm and hopefully, we have prepared for the worse so we can weather the aftermath too. Glad you all made it through this one even though you are without power. Thanks for sharing your experience.

All of my dad's side of the family are down there, and I spent several weeks out of the year down there growing up. I know how you guys feel. I lived in Fla as a kid and hurricane Donna came thru in the '60s, we lived in Winter Haven, I remember us going to the highschool everybody was in the lunch room under the tables, wind was terrible, we were looking out the door window a pair of mens jeans flew by... Then one of those big Fla pines crashed in the corner of the building, people got up running to other end of building. It ripped the roofs off my Aunts and Grandmothers houses, filling them up with alot of water, Uncle went out back of Aunts house he could hear the dogs going crazy, he went out to check on his dogs just then something hissed real loud he turned and a big big gator was staring at him, they call a friend his name was Pete Furgeson, he was big time gator guy to remove him.... awhile later we moved to Ala to get away from those rough storms. Now we hide from Tornadoes in a storm pitt.......😂

Though this comment is 8 months after the fact, I hope that this region of Florida (as it rebuilds) will learn to install power cables underground... where I live, all power cables are buried - they're not only more protected from storms, snow, etc. but also make the landscape more visually clean and natural...

Sorry, but as a survivor if many Hurricanes, this was careless guys. If you would've gotten a flat or stuck in mud you would've had to call a emergency vehicle and that would be one less for those in serious need. That's why you don't drive around during a hurricane. Stay put and let the storm play out. Why put yourselves in danger? Glad y'all are safe but, common sense.

You couldn’t be more wrong. None of us are GenZ, and I’m a fifth generation Floridian that has been through some unbelievable storms. All my family has and some of us have even lost homes due to them. Idalia was a nasty, nasty storm. There are still loads of people trapped in their homes due to downed trees, not able to travel at all and with no power. We tried to be respectful in this video and not drive right up to the homes of devastated people who lost everything just to film. That didn’t seem right. At my home, we never felt in any danger at all. We went outside in the wind and walked around. Elsewhere was horrifying.

@@PaleoCris First, I apologize about the lengthy time it's taken to respond. I honestly forgot until last night when I got the geode video notification, and just now when someone liked the comment. Second, I enjoy your channel on fossils, nature, geodes, etc.... Third, ANY storm can be devastating! I should have added, based on the family and friends of over 30yrs that we have which live in Florida, They accessed the damage much differently to us. True, some places were hit harder than others, and will unfortunately always be this way. But this particular storm will never compete with some in the past, such as Andrew! My apologies if you were offended, and I truly do enjoy your channel!

No thanks! I left in 2014 after 21 years. Ft. Myers Beach got it the worst last time. Glad not to be at Sea level. My friend’s house is a 15 foot stilt home. Waves we’re knocking on his door. Never stay if you can leave. Nothing is worth your life. FEMA will reimburse you for your expenses while you’re displaced from your home save all receipts. Federal disaster, flood insurance, which is mandatory to have ! It’ll will pay for one door. Sad.
