I've never believed that Batman is just hiding, I think he is completely leaving in such a stealthy or unexpected way (jumping off roofs, using his gadgets) that the person didn't notice. I also enjoy believing he isn't doing it to be dramatic, he is just done with the convo and leaves immediately while the other person is still catching up.

The way I always read it in older iterations was that he just doesn't have enough hours in the day. In that CEO time is money sense, he literally has everything he needs, the conversation is winding down, it's time to get back on the clock. The only difference between his departure and a manager noticing the time is he has Ninja and Stage Magician training so ingrained in his act that he would actively have to try to alert someone he is leaving. A lot more modern movies just sort of use it as "ooh, mysteries," but in TAS specifically it almost always felt like "right, talkings over, back to fighting crime."

Exactly. I can't remember which scene or scenes, but I'm sure you can literally hear his cape flap as he jumps off a rail, or the zip line as he grapple hooks himself out of there. He doesn't disappear, vanish, or hide. He exits quickly.

There was a comic from the 70s that showed Batman talking to Gordon in his office. As usual Gordon turns to look at Batman, only to find an open window. But as Gordon leaves the office. Batman comes out from behind the coat stand. Because Gordon would have seen him leave if he tried to go out the window. So he only made him think he left.

@@AnEvilBastard I think it was Dick Grayson, and he wasn't even trying. Gordon had looked away, and when he turned back Batdick was still standing there, and it surprised the hell out of him. Batdick said he wasn't sure they were finished talking, and Gordon was like, "it never stopped you before." That's when he started getting suspicious he wasn't dealing with the original. I liked in Kingdom Come, toward the end of the comic when everything is coming to a head, Superman busts in on an elderly Bruce Wayne (who is preparing to put on some Bat armor) to help him with the emergency. Batman gives him more info about what's going on that makes Supes leave very quickly so that when Bruce turns back around he's gone, and he chuckles to himself, "So that's what it feels like."

Part of why it works for Batman, is that the people he's talking to are also busy. Like he is talking to them and then gives them information(sometimes physical) and they are now thinking on the info, then when he's gone, they may do a quick look around, but they also have just been given new information on their current thing and the pressure of getting back to that with all this new info kind of pushes them harder than wanting to keep looking around.

"They're just frustrated with you, now." -- and indeed, in a lot of instances of Batman just vanishing, Gordon or whoever is often just really frustrated afterwards. But the one I like most... Is when Batman does it to Superman. Suggesting that Batman doesn't even make a noise when he vanishes.

Considering the suite of super-senses that Superman has, I doubt Clark would be that easy to fool. Then again, it could just be a matter of mind-games and trying to expertly focus attention elsewhere or relax the focus in the right places such that Batman could vanish even from Clark. That or maybe Clark is too polite to out Bruce's hiding spot when Bruce is trying to keep up his reputation as a mystery hero of the night.

The thing about this "trick" is that, every move Batman makes is calculated. If he meets you at a specific spot, you can be sure that he has several exit routes planned. He can "disappear" not because he's a ninja, but because he specifically chose a spot where he can do exactly that, if the need arises. So yes, Batman is just that good.

One trope that I would love to see tested is the horror trope where people go towards weird sounds in the dark. Would be funny to see people from the office, totally oblivious of any shenanigans, hear something when they come to work and see if they'll go investigate. Could also unscrew the lightbulbs so they are there but won't turn on for added scare factor.

More realistic to test it when someone is staying long, when they are alone in a large building after hours. Most scary movies where people go towards the creepy sound are in the dark, not in a bright morning sun with friends around. But still, they should absolutely test it somehow, great idea.

I recall once or twice in BTAS, I wanna say earlier on in the series, when Batman "vanishes" and Commissioner Gordon or Barbara or someone goes to check the window or building ledge, Batman's just seen already swinging away on his grapple. And the show depicts him has undergoing both ninjitsu and magician/escape artist training in order to develop his physical skills. So when he's depicted as vanishing, it's really more just Batman silently leaving right away and the camera lingering on Gordon for a while for dramatic effect. Because when Batman wants to do something like Hide in the Shadows, he'll be seen stalking offscreen or something and then attacking from the shadows or just the his eyes or silhouette appearing as some goon has walked right past him or so. And the black, dark blue, and gray of his suit are colors suitable for blending into general dark surroundings.

This right here. People are honestly, in my opinion, showing how little deductive skills and cognitive reasoning they actually possess if they think he’s hiding in a box waiting for everyone to just leave. No, he was literally training in over a dozen different forms of martial arts across the whole world in dozens of different countries, and also learned along the way multiple different forms of magician skills. Things like “Disappearing” most specifically. He’s distracting the enemy or waiting for an ally to become distracted, before walking away as quietly as he can and then he crawls into the ventilation system or jumping off a building, grappling up to a higher vantage point, etc.

The other thing that dudes in a dingy studio cannot get their hands on are the gadgets and forms of technology Batman possess as a Multi-Billionaire. It’s very possible to assume that Batman has multiple styles of suits. Ones for intimidation with heavy boots, as well as suits specifically designed for stealth, with boots made of specially made materials that dampen sound and make it so he produces virtually no sound when walking.

In my experience, you don't even need to hide, you can just leave. When someone's talking to you, they assume you are still there even when their back is turned, so if their attention gets caught by a task, you can have a lot of time to just leave. I do it all the time by accident: I'm walking alongside someone, talking to them, and the side I'm walking on runs out of room so I switch sides behind them, they turn back to speak to me and get the Batman reaction, sometimes I switch back to the side I was on and they take another few seconds to find me, but I would always have enough time to slip into the crowd or behind a nearby wall or something

That first attempt would have gone better in terms of disappearing if the camera wasn't present. The camera being there prompts that there must be something more going on, so they keep looking.

A kid I knew in middle school that literally would disappear like that. That’s why everyone called him Ninja. He wouldn’t do it every time, so we never expected it, and we were confused about how he did it

Just a suggestion... Make a part 2 video to this and use hidden cameras this time, and do it during more general conversations. Like talking about what to get for food. Maybe tell them what your dreams are and then ask them theirs, and then disappear.

I've done this in real life before: by accident and on purpose. It's all about finding the right moment, then you just step out of someone's field of view. Or you get interested in something else and wonder off--not realizing the person was still trying to talk to you. And as often as Batman does it, he would become extremely good at it. 👍🏽

I actually think there's a level of mythos to Batman's disappearances. People don't look for him because he has this concept that is part of his entire identity about vanishing. Even though it could be easy for them to find him if they looked, he gives them the impression that it would be futile

Yeah, it's like when my little dog sneaks a food wrapper off the table when I'm watching a show with my mom. The 10lb dog sits on her lap on the lazy boy and we have an end table very close. She (the dog) will wait a while, my mom gets pretty glued to the TV so it's pretty easy for her to slowly grab it and get away. My mom has slow reaction times as well so will give up almost immediately because she also can't catch the dog once the dog gets on the ground. The dog doesn't even run that fast honestly because she knows that she won... Until I'm in the room in the same scenario and I can actually catch her so she's caught off guard

Why the fuck do people think it would be easy to find him? He literally leaves, how can you find some who isn't even there now.
@OdaKa
@OdaKa 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpecterNeverSpectator Because in many cases it wouldn't make sense for him to be far enough away to not find him if you start searching immediately. And also, you'd be able to follow his footsteps at least. If he's getting away quickly, he's gonna be running or grapple hooking away. Those things would make some noise even if he has soft shoes and gear mufflers.

his last point hits the nail on the head, it's not normal to walk off suddenly, esp when the person we were speaking to is looking the other way, so when someone does it, it feels really unusual and it interrupts our normal problem solving.
