Funny thing about this was that with this song Tom probably brought two groups together in opposition to himself who would almost never agree. Those who don't like his message in general and saw it as inappropriate for him to attempt to speak to the black experience, and those who like his usual music because they mistake it as conservative and don't like him expressing a sentiment that is against the general conservative narrative.

True story. This song at 40 years old... helped me see life from another person’s perspective. Which although, we all love each other. It don’t mean we understand each other. But that is a sketchy mind state to be in. Because then there is room for people, media, things to fill in that void of unknowing with uncertainty and assumptions. Which is a virus of humanity. We're best when we form communities around churches, workout groups, things that are about living life. Then it doesn't matter what your pigment is. If you're part of the community then you are a brother or sister. More cross sections and communities is where people share their experiences and learn to empathize and if you want to be racist to someone in my group then it doesn't matter how much you look like me, you're the enemy.

You guys are amazing. This song always gets me, I'm not black but I'm not ignorant to history. My studies in school focused on Black American literature and American history. I live in Birmingham so I spend a lot of time researching the Civil Rights Movement and MLK. People need to educate themselves. Everything Tom MacDonald spoke was facts. It's absolutely heartbreaking the suffering experienced in our nation. I like that Tom can help people recognize the truth on both sides, because we need to rid of this country of separation by color and come together.

Just wanted to let you both know that I am a 49 year old, conservative, white woman who has lived in the suburbs my entire life and I DO hear you. What we have done (and continue to do) to the black community is criminal & evil and needs to be STOPPED! How do we get there? I think we need BOTH sides to come together - which is why I love Tom’s music - but if anyone has any good organizations I would love to know about them.
