My first concert was seeing the Righteous Brothers nearly 60 years ago. The best "blue-eyed soul"! Loved them then, love them now.❤️ Playing in a club in the South, a marine stood up and said their singing was "righteous brother". Hence their name. They are not related to each other.

A slight correction: it was southern California, Orange county. Calling them righteous brothers wasn't a one-time thing; it went on for the months they played the club.

@@doloreskrisky1670 Down south of where he was standing. The Andy Williams show was broadcast from Burbank, LA county, CA. The club where they were performing when the marines started calling them righteous brothers was in Santa Ana, Orange County, CA. Orange county is south of LA county. At that time, they had never performed outside of California.

Not brothers, but grew up near each other. Same age, just a couple of weeks apart. Named by some black marines stationed in southern California. They had broke off from their previous group and needed to call themselves something for the record label, so they used what the marines called them. I love their music.

@@Angelabout1 honestly. I have no idea. My Dad Sang in The Mormon Tabernacle Choir for over 20 years. He was a baritone. That sound that just hits you. Well. Deep in your soul. But he didn't really have Soul. But I do think that Kelly Clarkson, Pink they both Sang with SOUL. I sometimes think you can hear everything they've been through in their lives so far. With every note they sing. Like they are singing From their soul To ours. Some can, others can sing really well. These guy's? I'm "only" oh wow umm 47 now. I couldn't say when I found out who they were, can hardly put together a song and band name together now. My Dad actually told me about them. I've always thought they had Soul though.

@@Angelabout1 Yeh really....besides, I was a music teacher, and felt that although there are subcultures in music, I didn't care I felt music was the universal language and knows no skin color. Like it's not like "Oh no, they're purple, I can't listen to this music by someone purple." Music should come from the soul anyway.

Bobby Hatfield, the tenor sings "Unchained Melody" which featured prominently in the movie, "Ghost" and Bill Medley, the baritone sang the theme song for the movie "Dirty Dancing" called "The Time of My Life" with Jenifer Warnes. So if you watch movies, you may have heard these two sing individually or together.

Back in the day (no MTV) hearing singers just on the radio, people thought the Righteous Bros. A BIG ingredient in this recording was the producer, Phil Spector. He was a mad genius. Some of the biggest songs of the 1960’s were the result of Spector’s production. If you REALLY want to be blown away by that “wall of sound” and one of the purest, most emotionally powerful vocal performances EVER, you HAVE to hear “River Deep, Mountain High” by Tina Turner. Spector produced that one as well and later claimed it was his masterpiece. He made Tina repeat the vocals literally hundreds of times in one day to the point that she nearly broke emotionally. I mean like the poor girl nearly fractured from reality he pushed her SO hard. Because he knew what she could do and wanted to force that borderline breakdown in her heart and soul for a once in a lifetime vocal performance. And she NAILED it. The infamous “Wrecking Crew” studio musicians did the musical score live while Tina sang from the depths of her everlasting soul. Give it a listen and you will feel every word she sings to you. The vocals, the strings, the percussion, the backing vocals…all of it is absolute perfection!

I am a 66 year old woman and loved watching the two of you, your smile Lae was wonderful and could light up not only a room but an entire house! Although your sister didn't smile as much I could tell her feelings as well, it was in her eyes! It's called Blue-eyed soul! As young as you are I'm not surprised if you haven't heard this term before! That lip bite was because Bobby's mother was in the audience and he was nervous but, he knew he had nailed it. And he did, with a song that has been sung by over 600 artistes, Bobby Hatfield has the supreme version. Unchained Melody, I believe, was specifically written for a 1935 film called Unchained, a film set in prison.

See...Bill Burr is right... We all need to have friends of all races. Most white people missed the great Motown magic in the 60s and 70s, just like many black people missed the blue-eyed soul and amazing rock music of the same era. I'm thankful that I spent most of those years with black, white, brown and every other race for friends. You never know when you walk into my house... I could just as easily have Coco Taylor blaring the blues, Pink Floyd reminding of 'Time' slipping or Pavarotti making me cry. Great artists are great artists regardless of their genre of music or the color of their skin, yes?

I don't know what you're talking about here because back then there weren't stations for all different types of music as much as there is nowadays. We didn't even have FM radio, just had AM radio. Country pretty much had its own stations but everything else played on a station together. So, we listened to all kinds of music. I heard (and loved) rock & roll, hard rock, soft rock, Motown, Philly Soul, some Country, standards (mostly what our parents' music, etc. And when I say "our parents' music, I mean people who are almost or are 90-something now! Like music from the 1930s to the 50's. So, your statement that white people listened to white people and blacks listened to Motown, etc., is totally wrong! If you really are a baby Boomer like a bunch of us out here and only listened to Motown, then I feel sorry for you because you really missed out on a lot of great music. Along with any white person out there who only listened to so-called white music, you missed out hearing great music from Motown and Phily, etc. But I've read enough comments from people like me (I mean old) who are from ALL races & all countries who were listening to the radio back in the 50s until about 2000 and we heard it all. And LOVED it all. Anyway, sorry for ranting but I just had to straighten you out on this. Love to all from KANSAS! ❤😊
