First there are two Righteous Bros but at times they did solos also in their careers. Bobby Hatfield sang this live on the Andy Williams show there was no do overs just his amazing voice and a small microphone. Many artists before and after him have done this song but no one will ever do this song like Bobby Hatfield. HE OWNS THIS SONG. This performance was effortless, smooth and sheer perfection. I still get goosebumps when I hear him sing. The other brother Bill Melody was there just not singing at the time.

If this song had been released before Beatles came to America you would know Bobby Hatfield's name and asking Beatles who are they. Only Phil Spector got involved and tried to put Unchained Melody on side B of another single. He took credit for the album but it was The Righteous Brother Bill Melody who produced the album. Bobby laid down tracks went home then came back said he could do it better and he did. 65 here and I slow danced fell in and out of love as a teen listening as my older sisters who never got into the Beatles Mania played it over and over. It is a song that you wish the singer was right there singing directly to you. He had one of not only the greatest voices but pure romance coming through. His Looks only added to the package.

Didn't the Righteous Brothers open for Beatles in their first American tour? I heard they quit because the frenzied screaming fans in anticipation of the Fab Four drowned out their singing. I heard that they subsequently opened for the Rolling Stone in their first US tour with same result. Blues, jazz and soul, imo, require an attentive audience.

This song Unchained Melody was written for a low budget film called Unchained made in 50s Bobby didn't sing on the film This was Bobby singing in live no auto tune, just raw talent. Bobby sung this for his mother who was seeing him sing live for the first time on the stage. This was brought back to life and featured in the movie Ghost by Demi Moore and Patrick Swazye. Bobby in my opinion sung this song the best. Ironically the 2 of them aren't actually brothers. Check out the both of them singing You've Lost That Lovin Feeling

So glad that you enjoyed this. I wish that the record was this fabulous... Bobby didn't go up at the end on the record. But this was live, & there was no auto-tuning of any kind in 1965. I was 6 when it came out, but didn't hear this until about a year ago. It's "our song" with my husband, & this recording will be played at my funeral. God bless!

Just a quick comment. For people that haven't heard that song before, it was a story (lyrics) about somebody incarcerated and wanting to get back to the love of his life. If you listen to it again, think of someone stuck in prison, alone, waiting their time, and missing their love. Listen to it with that in mind. Also remember that this was a live performance. No studio retakes here.
