We started this project by removing the carpet and grinding the carpet glue off of the concrete.
Once we got the glue up we realized that we were going to have to pour a self leveling concrete overlay across part of the floor.
After the self leveling overlay cured, we shotblasted the entire floor and then applied a metallic epoxy vapor barrier.
We let that cure overnight and we returned and poured three separate colors of veined metallic epoxy.
The final step is to apply a clear urethane floor sealer to the entire project.

Nice work guys… that was a serious transformation, I’m always impressed how much filming you do throughout the process, I know how difficult it is when you’re operating the business. Landon looks like he’s got some good camera skills lol.. 💪🏼

Thank you Nathan! It is a challenge to go from worrying about the product setting up to worrying about getting the right shot. It’s fun though. Landon is really good at film & photos. He has a really good eye for it.

Hey Tim, the spike roller relieves the surface tension so it settles in. I use uzin self leveler.

How do you guys handle cold weather? In the winter, is there any way to continue doing garage floors? Or do you have to only do commercial jobs?

I’m doing this same color and application using Car Garage Guy’s… I’m in Florida so it’s super humid and the base epoxy/primer/sealer is taking a long time to dry. Next is the metallic base coat, metallic effects and then the high wear urethane. Any recommendations going forwards. It looks like I should have probably used a “vapor barrier” too late now.

Hey Tim, I bought a stain Malayan color from Direct Colors the other day and applied it to my floors, we grinded the concrete and once it was smooth, we washed the concrete, vacuum and cleaned it, then we added the stain, it’s a 500sqft floor and we applied enough for a 750sqft, the whole area got covered pretty well but the next day the stain looked horrible, some spots had wet puddles and other spots were dry, we thought this was normal so we proceed on neutralizing the stain with ammonia, after we neutralize it with a mop the color was again all over the floor and we thought “great, now this will stay like this” but the next day the stain looked so light and there was lots of spots where the stain didn’t adhere to the concrete…now it just looks like an orange dust on the concrete floors with gray spots from the concrete and not at all like the pictures I’ve seen from other concrete stains projects….we added a wet look sealer and to our surprise the color came again even on the gray spots but once the sealer dried, the color of the stain lost its strength and now I can see there’s orange dust and the color very very light with lots of spots where it looks like the stain wasn’t even applied😢😢 please help me!!

It sounds like you concrete is pretty porous. Did you get a second coat of sealer? If more sealer doesn’t help, then you probably are going to have to remove the sealer and start the entire project over.

I like your channel... You guys do some beautiful work! Awesome to see that your shot blasting! I don't know about going over that old quarry tile... moisture won't have anywhere to escape and it's possible that that old tile could delaminate... Especially after going to all the trouble of grinding off the skim coat blah blah blah... Maybe it would have been better to remove the tile first and then do your self leveling... but it's also very possible that there is no hydrostatic pressure in the concrete and no Alkali and that the tile is so well bonded that there won't be a problem... Time will tell

Thanks! We ran some moisture tests and didn’t have any issues. I think we will be ok.

With new concrete how long do you have to wait before you can pour epoxy?

Some people say 30 days…but you really need to wait until moisture levels drop below 3lb/ft or 75% humidity…. Or sometimes you can use a vapor barrier epoxy primer if you can’t wait.

No… as long as you coat it in the recoat window, which is usually around 24 hours.
