Having lost the Charity Shield 4-0 to Manchester United, Newcastle got their revenge a few months later when they ran out 5-0 winners at St James' Park. Alan Shearer, David Ginola & Philippe Albert all got on the scoresheet that night and spoke after the match about what the victory meant.

Or... he joined them when they were genuine title contenders and a year later he injured himself whilst Dalglish went about turning the title challengers into mid-table nobodies. As a United fan this result hurt, but the bad run of form that season was quickly changed, Fergie was a master tactician, plus Newcastle imploded after this match. I'd love a renewed Man Utd/Newcastle Utd rivalry at the top, enough of Man City/Liverpool now

Yeah man, the NUFC/MUFC rivalry had a different feel to it back then than any combination since. Even the arsenal rivalry didn't match it for me. Had to respect that Newcastle team for their gung ho mentality, even if it ultimately cost them.

@Are you Gerrard won well more individual awards than scholes, scholes wasn’t even rated by his peers otherwise he would have won more individual awards. Gerrard could do everything, was more a more versatile player and could win games on his own. Put Gerrard in that united team you’d have won even more trophies, put scholes in that Liverpool they would win fuck all. Concluding scholes is the most overrated player in prem history, he admitted it himself that Gerrard and lampard were better than him.
@swkenny
@swkenny 4 жыл бұрын
According to United fans Scholes is the greatest player of all time the way they go on about him. Honestly there were times when he was a complete liability in a flat 4 next to Keane because he couldn't tackle for shit & would often give the ball away in stupid places on the pitch. Go back & watch some old games (not just the highlights) & you'll see exactly what I mean, that's why Ferguson would often play Nicky Butt instead because he was more reliable & solid. I'll admit he was a terrific player on his day but the hype he gets is laughable & cringeworthy now that he's retired & if you really want to compare him to anybody compare him to Xavi & it's a no contest, Xavi shits all over the boring little ginger prick every day of the week.
