Today we're watching SHARKNADO! The movie that popularized d-list sci-fi movies as we know them today. When a storm system sucks up sharks and throws them onto shore, our team of unlikable bad actors try to fight them off with bad VFX and CGI, but is this movie actually fun to watch? Against all logic and the laws of nature, an unprecedented hurricane off the coast of Mexico rips out a ravenous shiver of sharks, making its way towards southern California. As the freakish meteorological phenomenon brings violent tempests and towering, shark-infested tidal waves, the former surfing champion and Santa Monica Pier bar-owner, Finley "Fin" Shepard, embarks on a peril-laden journey to Beverly Hills, fearing for the life of his estranged wife, April, and his teenage daughter, Candice. Now, Fin; his friend, Baz; barmaid, Nova, and his regular customer, George, must fight tooth and nail to stay alive, as batch after batch of the flying oceanic predators rains down on the unsuspecting Angelenos, gobbling down everything in their path. Part of me unironically loves how the water texture in this movie constantly switched from real water to CGI flooding, to actual hurricanes, to tiny puddles, to jelly. I didn't notice it as a kid (I was the type of kid to like any movie no matter how bad it was, I used to think Sharkboy and Lavagirl was a masterpiece), but once you grow older and notice those details in bad movies, it's honestly a lot more fun to watch.

My favorite trivia fact for this movie was that the writer was going to turn it down for being TOO absurd an idea, but The Asylum kept begging him, so he agreed ONLY on the grounds that he got to do whatever he wanted and not be required to take it remotely seriously. They conceded so he just cracked his knuckles and unleashed Full Glorious Stupid upon the Earth.

about the shark roar. sharks have no organs for producing sounds. but some can make growl like noise by grinding thier teeth.(great white) BUT. here is one race of shark what can "bark like dog" (draughtsboard shark) yet they look nothing like our regular old shark. they are smoll, can get to 1 meter lenght (or 1.5 m) and look like very cute doodle of shark.

One thing I appreciate about the Sharknado series is that they stuck with the same d-list actors throughout the series instead of recasting them with more famous actors once the series got popular. The later movies have plenty of celebrity cameos, but they're just there for a brief appearance. The movies are still campy and weird, but at least they didn't forget the people who were there from day 1.

I remember watching the third Sharknado movie (yes, there was a third movie), with the concept of sharks being swooped up by a tornado confusing me at the age of 9. At the cliffhanger part, people had to submit their vote to decide if one of the people in the movie lived or died. The corny theme song always brings back nostalgia though.
