Kinda sad how Mutanga and Tess note that in Chungking, they feel welcomed and accepted, not judged. The unspoken part is that elsewhere in Hong Kong, they feel judged and rejected (Tess' comments about not finding work reinforce this). Glad this video shines a bit of a spotlight on how much more flavourful life can be when we welcome people from diverse backgrounds.

people cry so much over africans, you think when chinese people go to africa they are totally accepted everywhere? HA be honest and fair. People like you are funny always talking about race, if people dont like you they dont like you thats life get over it. But its a classic topic now a days. In canada we talk the same about blacks always saying how life is so much harder, canada even declared covid was harder for black people in canada compared to white people LOOOOOOOOL, they are a minority population in most of the countries, be realistic holy smokes, he chooses to go there, if he does not like it there is a big world to live in

Yah, China is known for having a bit of a racism problem.

it is pretty normal for minorities to be judged and labelled in a foreign country. and in this case, i could imagine that they are judged because some of them are refugees and naturally people associate refugees with crimes because thats how most refugees are able to stay alive in most places in the world and its what they see on the news, and i call this passive racism, that is mostly initiated by unknown, uncertainty and self protection, they become sort of "racism" simply due to protection mechanism of human being. the interesting thing is, in some of the most developed places in the world the problem of racism is more serious because they are active, think about how asian people are considered weak, inferior and are often assaulted on board day light in those countries that love to talk about human right, fairness and democracy.

Neither of them speak Cantonese, no doubt they get rejected. Even mandarin speakers don't have it easy in hong kong. It's the same in America or anywhere else, you don't speak the local language, you're become an outcast.

Jacky was born in British Hong Kong, grew up, worked and got famous in Hong Kong. Why wouldn't he be fluent in Cantonese? He only sold his soul to China when the communist killed almost all production house in Hong Kong.

@@HugosLeung when over 90% of the population are Chinese and mostly speaks Cantonese while a relatively small portion of the entirety are of other races and most you see on the street are no where near fluent in the language, it's not discrimination but just pattern seen by an average person that causes the appalling reaction who are you to stand out and accuse someone being racist when praise is given to someone who wasn't expected to be fluent in a language to actually be perfect at it ffs it's not even your business

Hello! Once upon a time, it was the Chongqing Mansion that was the threshold for a visit to Hong Kong. In the 90s, when I became a Wang Jiaye fan, a visit to exchange money opened my eyes to the delicious Indian food. Tales from the past and present. A lot has happened and a lot will happen. In any case, I will probably always love Hong Kong in the future. 香港加油!!

Thanks for covering Chungking Mansions. I chose not to stay at the hostels housed inside as many online reviews said accessing the elevators would take time. But I loved finding out how there were so many Indian / South Asian and African restaurants inside. Is Jacky's restaurant called Moti Mahal? It would be nice if you had a graphic with location details like floor and store number. His food looked better than the microwaved mediocrity I had at one of the other Indian eateries there :/ (this was back in 2012)
