To be fair, from you realized Ace was okay with white beard being pirate king instead of him, you knew he didn’t have the will of joyboy. I think luffy would’ve rather died than join white beard’s crew when he was 17+ vs as a child when luffy wanted to be on shank’s crew

I honestly love how whenever WE see Luffy in Gear 5 he's just having fun and being silly but when it cuts to the enemies Point Of View they see Luffy looking like a damn Demon with those red eyes and big ol grin on his face, even shocked Lucci when he saw it in person for the first time! 😅

It's a great juxtaposition. A believable one, too. I would be terrified if a cartoon character that could bend reality was coming for me with glee bordering on madness. Zoro will kill me with an ouchie, but Luffy might turn my body into glass and shatter me... and might not necessarily die from it if he doesn't want me to.

Luffy ability is to use his rubber like body with a huge amount of freedom and use the power of imagination to fight however he desires in a goofy cartoony way. Luffy being able to turn his hair into rubber goggles, turn a tree into a rubber baseball is to showcase his power of imagination. Oda just choose to add funny toony element to the fight so that he doesn’t want to be bored doing serious fight with luffy. He can’t literally reality bend like a toon character but he can Mimic their actions just by using his own creativity with his rubberlike body, that’s what luffy gear 5 does.

The whole question of “how did Shanks stop Kaido” has, I believe, a very simple answer. Shanks, the diplomat, made it clear that, if Kaido proceeded any further, Shanks would do everything in his power to stop him. Even if Kaido defeated Shanks and his crew, he’d be far too injured and suffered far too many casualties to be able to do whatever it is he wanted to do at Marineford. So, deciding to bide his time with the smile fruits, he made the reasonable decision to back off for now.

And, for those who think Kaido couldn’t be so easily reasoned with, remember, the man’s not stupid. Marineford was his chance to strike because Whitebeard was there and the chaos would give him the best odds of doing… whatever it is he wanted to do. Otherwise, why not just attack Marineford at any other point? Why wait for the smiles or a Big Mom alliance?

Going back to what Whitebeard says, Luffy inherits the will from Ace in the form of his scar, but Sabo inherits his flames which prevents them being extinguished. It's an elegant way of showing that both threads are still well intertwined and ongoing.

I mean he did read the poneglyph and even found the One Piece, he surely must've read that Joyboy has a body of rubber and the only way to achieve that is through devil fruit. If Vegapunk knew the existence of Nika fruit just from reading poneglyph, so could Roger.

The funny thing is, everyone expected Ace to be the next "Joy Boy" purely because he's Gol D. Roger's son, but Ace's personality is all wrong; while he does love to party and have fun, he's a bit too mopey a lot of the time due to the resentment he has for his father and the world at large believing in the whole "sins of the father" nonsense when it comes to whoever Roger's child is. He doesn't have a knack for spreading smiles wherever he goes the way Luffy does, even if he's ultimately a good person. I actually like this, as it ties into the themes of inherited will not necessarily being tied to biological family that One Piece is all about. Ace may be Roger's son, but that doesn't mean he HAS to follow in his footsteps (even if Roger rather arrogantly believed Ace would do what he expected him to do before he was even born). I do also like that even though Whitebeard probably anticipated Ace doing what he supposedly "needed" to do according to what the Roger Pirates found out at Laugh Tale, with Roger telling him that and all, that seemed to be mostly secondary to treating Ace like his own son and loving him for who he is. It's especially funny, too, since Whitebeard saying "that's a surprise" to Ace revealing that he's Roger's song likely isn't him not knowing he was Roger's son, but rather the fact that Ace is the exact opposite of Roger's personality, which again, ties into Ace not being the ideal Joy Boy. Again, people were so focused on lineage that they failed to notice the more ideal Joy Boy up until they actually met Luffy, as Whitebeard did at Marineford.

All the signs seemed to line up for Ace in Whitebeard's eyes but he was not aware that the Gum Gum Fruit is actually the Human Human Fruit Model Nika, as it was secret knowledge. Shanks likely only learned that secret after the the Library of Ohara was moved to Elbaf. The timeline is close enough to add up.

in regards to shanks not knowing that ace was roger's son, that's true. he probably didn't know anything about ace, what he looked like, his name, etc. But that last conversation that roger had with Shanks was right after Roger decided to have a son and it's possible that Shanks was told of roger's plan and how he was to go about finding his son after roger died. Roger knew to tell garp to watch over ace, he probably knew that the goa kingdom was really important to garp so it's possible shanks was there looking for roger's son but just didn't know exactly who he was. that's why it took him a year there and he didn't leave until luffy had eaten the gum gum fruit.

The fact that no one actually knows where Luffy comes from is the wildest thing... the manga says that he's Garp's grandson and Dragon's son but we neither have seen Garp's wife nor have we seen Luffy's mother yet... I'm just gonna assume he was adopted until the manga clears this issue out. The fact that Luffy looks nothing like Dragon baffles me to this date...

Its pretty egoistic for Roger to think, that his son will be JoyBoy reincarnation. After all Roger wasnt that special. Roger, Whitebeard and Shanks probably assumed that Roger somehow carried Joy Boy's will and that it'd be inherited by Ace not knowing that at that point NO ONE carried the will of Joy Boy. His will entered the scene in Luffy after eating the gomu gomu no mi spawning from the fruit itself. A false belief both Roger and Whitebeard carried to their deaths, although Shanks kinda realized it after the fruit mishap at Makino's bar. He probably thought "this fruit is necessary to give the one who inherited Joy Boy's will" with the intent of giving it to Ace, and after the mishap he noticed that Joy Boy's will was in the fruit and the fruit chose Luffy to carry it on.

I don't think there is a single "chosen one" to be the next Joyboy. I think at at any given moment there are several people with the potential to become the next Joyboy, it just so happened that Luffy is the one who is actually capable of fully utilizing that potential. If Fate was really something that exists in OP it did the equivalent of throing stuff at the wall and see what sticks, and it turns out Luffy was quite sticky that day.

I have a theory: The Gum Gum fruit always results in a catastrophe if it is eaten by someone whose will doesn't align with Nika's will. They've said that if you don't have a strong willpower that aligns with the will of the fruit, that zoan awakenings erode your sense of self. I think that Rocks D. Xebec was the previous eater of the fruit, and that he didn't align closely enough with Nika's will, and the fruit drove him insane because of it. I think that, if Ace had eaten the fruit, he might have suffered a similar fate.
