This game actually helped me to read as a kid as I was behind in school in English especially and my mother encouraged me to read which I did sometimes but it was games like this and breath of fire 3 and even vagrant story (that was a real struggle lol) that helped me. I used to always ask mam what this word was or what that word was because I genuinely wanted to follow the story and she quickly put 2 and 2 together and would often sit beside me during cutscenes to explain and show me. I still remember the day I asked what the word 'laughing' was and she told me and I face palmed so hard. Wow that made a lot of sense to so many cutscenes where that word popped up and the context was lost. Also 'Colonel' was a word I struggled with. Damn silent letters. Ah fond memories.

​@@martinperry1843 It will be in Part 3. They have the majority of the map and all characters developed already. They just have to make the Icicle Area and the northern crater as Rebirth will end up in the Forgotten Capitol. Hell, Part 3 development is already under way.

Why would an Ancient Guardian of the planet even know what a cannon is? These creatures had activated in the past but it was always to fight normal sword and shield style threats

They appear to be guided missiles. Check out the one on Diamond Weapon. It gets him head on as well, then continues to attack Sephiroths barrier.

It does move though the movement range is quite limited I still don't understand what was the point of the cannon even against Wutai

It appears to have been developed to make the island impregnable to any attack. Then came in good use when a WEAPON one day appeared.

I thought I read somewhere that it was built for the war against Wutai but was finished shortly after and not put to use.

@@johnepants This would make some sense. Funny enough, in the original game the Wutai seems so defenseless though. Anyway this city is so unique :)

@@NaCle62 Late response but random trivia regarding Wutai; defenseless in the original game because Shinra said so. They are the losers, and the town you visit is not the Wutai who was fighting against Shinra but merely a repro for cultural tourism, like a Disney park. This is stated in the game. This is the reason why Yuffie is so mad at her father; he's faking peace (to avoid further loss) instead of continue fighting.

After how they butchered Cid and misplaced the location of the Temple of the Ancients I no longer trust that they'll do this properly. They'll probably have the cannon miss at point blank range and have Sapphire Weapon defeated by Yuffie doing parkour or something.

Weapons are mindless. They only target mako reactors or other machines attacking the lifestream. Its why diamond ignores you and leaves- the lifestream told it to leave and attack midgar.

@@marcusbullock630 They're also incredibly bad at their one job. Sapphire attacked the city instead of the underwater reactor. Ultima was a coward that ran away from every fight. Ruby and Emerald just puttered about doing nothing. Jade and Omega were easily bamboozled by humans into doing their bidding. Only Diamond seemed to even remotely try to fulfill its purpose but still ignored the real threat in Sephiroth right behind it.

No, you are wrong. Junon Cannon did not kill the weapon. It just blast off his head. The weapon is still living and diving in the sea, without his head where you can fight it, by using the submarine to reach it.

@@00Kuja00 Are you blind? Watch the video showing the four monsters flying out of the crater. The first monster is Emerald. It has the same engines as the monster that can be reached in the water with the submarine. In the video in which Emerald's head is shot off, you can see the core that Emerald has in his stomach just before the monster dives into the water. And didn't you notice that Emerald has no head???? Yes, why doesn't it have a head? Because previously destroyed by the Junon cannon.

@@Krysta267 But the story didn't need it. It was perfect and complex enough already. Square Enix doesn't know when to stop. And they don't know how to tell a good story since Sakaguchi left (a long time ago). Now FF stories are about boring edgy teenagers (driving around in a car looking for laser hair removal clinic or something). FF7 remake part 1 was the last Square Enix game I will ever buy.

I liked FF6, FF7 and FF X. But the other titles over the last years are just crap.

Attack on Titan existed long after FFVII.

Pokemon R/B/Y was likely that generation's first rpg.

Those Pokémon games came out after FF7 for everyone besides Japan. For us that were kids when ff7 came out, things like Chrono Trigger was our real first jrpg.
