Oh no doubt the line about a land across the sea is false and lacks nuance. I try not to take that line too seriously and focus on their story in Ireland. The Irish were treated horribly when they immigrated to the United States, and of course would have then witnessed the abject horrors of chattel slavery and indigenous genocide, to the dismay of many, like Thomas Meagher.

Also, I have never claimed to be an Irish nationalist, I merely show support for revolutionary causes including Irish reunification, but also those led by the people of Palestine, Yemen, Iran, etc. But all that aside, anyone that gets this angry about the use of a song to advocate for basic human rights is a bad egg.

He is already in France talking with Napper Tandy by verse 2 so it wouldn't make sense for him to reference France again as nothing more than mere whispers. Also, the lyricist immigrated to the United States and likely wrote that verse in relation to his own desires. That verse was not part of the original street ballad but was added later, in the 1840s by Dion. Second, you seem confused about how any of this works. It just so happens that both of those songs were heavily requested by my viewers, many of whom are Irish. I don't like Sean South. He was a right wing fascist and I only sang that song because I enjoy the melody, and again it was requested of me. I made clear in the description that I do not agree with his politics (a sentiment shared by many of my viewers as well). Next, "My Old Man's a Provo" is a parody enjoyed by many people, most of whom are far removed from the politics and I did not use either of these songs to promote my worldview (read the descriptions). Regarding the PIRA, they did distance themselves from traditional Marxist/Leninist/Maoist communism but they were still majority socialist (unlike Sean South). They began to downplay their socialist beliefs to gain support from Irish Americans but they also received money and weapons from eastern bloc countries that would have been at the approval of the Soviet Union. Their major disagreement with the OIRA was related to their desire to continue their reliance on brute force rather than sit-ins, protests, electoral victories, etc. but a socialist republic was still their stated goal. People like Sean South (capitalist, fascist, imperialist shills...he openly admired the likes of A.K. Chesterton, a leading British fascist) were a minority and that was well known in his time, even among other conservative Catholics. For you to simply overlook and discount the majority socialist Irish revolutionaries over the last century is hypocritical at best, and blatantly treacherous at worst. Finally, many native Irish relate their own historical strife to the contemporary struggles of different peoples across the globe, and those struggling do the same when they listen to these songs and find courage to fight their own battles. This is evident in my own comment sections. That is the wonderous legacy of these songs that you would have tarnished by your xenophobia.

It shares the same tune as "The orange and the green" and "the rising of the moon". He has covers for both of these. This song isn't the original tune though , "the rising of the moon" is. Its tune is also used in the civil war songs "the army of the free" and "the wearing of the grey"
