From what I understand, Sam grew up inside a theater at Copely Square in Cambridge, Mass. So he should be pretty knowledgeable about circus stilts.

I wore painter's stilts to play a giant once. They are surprisingly intuitive and stable. It was a bit disorienting to go from 5'3" to 6'9"; the floor was a long way down!

I once worked with a French circus electrician (and occasional performer). He would adjust the lights by climbing an unsupported ladder, and balancing on a top rung. I'm sure he would simply scoff at the thought of mere stilts! 😂

Related to the juggling tangent: about a decade ago the college near me had a jugglers' convention and ended with a show and if you ever get a chance to see a show like that aimed at an audience of professionals, you should go. Some stuff was flashy but it was also their chance to show off for each other so there was a lot of technical stuff that was difficult to do but didn't necessarily LOOK impressive. I remember one trick on the diabolos (hourglass on a string) that took the guy four or five tries to get right and the atmosphere was intense encouragement. Everyone in there know how difficult it actually was, and knew how difficult it is to do a trick after you flub it once. When the guy pulled it off the room exploded with appreciation.

So, fun fact, there are aome painter stilts thay they have used Xsjado skates as the base for where you put your foot. Xsjados (now made as USD Shadows) were agressive inline skates that were closer to snowboard boots that you could bind any shoe into and were super supportive of the ankles. So, there were a few instances of people removing the wheel system from those skates and putting them on painter stilts as an even extra support. They even made their way into some Hollywood productions for stunt performers on stilts for that same reason.
