Always one of my favourites from this album, Harlequin being another (Birdland is taken as a given). Wayne Shorter is magnificent, you can hear why Becker and Fagen asked him to guest on Aja. The albums were recorded and released around the same time. Jaco also shines on this and Joe lets the others shine, even though it’s his song.

Once I had the pleasure to work with Joe Zawinul on a Hungarian tour. Never forget what he told me at one point: "You know my friend, the best thing in the world is GOOSE LIVER!" LOL... Also, he was really into boxing. A true musical genius. RIP.

Evening, JP. Dave from London, in a Five O'Clock World. Yes, I needed that! It's my favourite track from my favourite Weather Report album. It's my kind of jazz - beautifully played with feeling, nice and mellow, and so melodic. I still remember vividly the brilliant show they gave at London's Rainbow Theatre on this tour. P.S. my song ref Five O'Clock World is by The Vogues.

JP, one of the channels on your last bunch of videos has some noise going. Listen back to this one. Teen Town next, a Jaco festival! You gotta try the title track to Joni's Hejira, some of the best playing Jaco ever did.

Good choice, I had this lp, along with Tail Spinning, Mysterious Traveller and Black Market, all quality! Then I got married and started raising a family, lol. Heavy Weather was their most successful. Please continue to dig into their discography. Another group I highly recommend in this genre is the German Jazz fusion group, Passport. Start with the Cross Collateral lp, it's amazing!

That look on Justin’s face at 1:11 when you know a track has hit the spot. Super cool late night music. So relaxing. I’m listening to this at the end of the day so this is a really nice way to wind down. I’ve come to this after listening to the excellent brand new single from The National which dropped today. Definitely a band worth checking out. Try their 2010 album ‘High Violet’ - maybe the track ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’ or 'Terrible Love'?

Hey JP, just wanted to know I enjoy spending part of my life checking in. If I may, I suggest "Feel It" by Todd Rundgren off the sorely neglected Nearly Human. A lot of Philly Soul in the grooves of entire LP except for the cover of Elvis Costello's Two Little Hitlers. The Want of a Nail was the single. Sort of feels like if Marvin Gaye recorded with TSOP.

So the below got added before I finished . ( Rookie error ) Just try any or all of the following tracks : ‘ I’m in the Mood ‘ , ‘ Tenderness ‘ , ‘ No. 1 ‘ or ‘ Silence ‘ and you will hear why , imo , you can mention Rod Argent in the same breath as Joe Zawinul ! PS : And how fitting , given that the reformed Zombies have just released a new single from their upcoming new album . Did I mention Phil Collins and Morris Pert handle drums and percussion and that Alphonso Johnson ( ex Weather Report ) guests on bass , including in a tune dedicated to Jaco !! Get some JP 👍

This is a classic song from a classic album but my favourite is Tale Spinnin' which is not so "commercial" but more adventurous. The 3rd track Between the Thighs is for me Weather Report's best performance. I hope you could play it sometime. No one has done it yet here in KZfaq.

It's not bad at all but stylistically it's a bit lounge jazz, the kind to listen to in the background of a bar but overall I like it, especially Joe Zawinul's solo synth sound.

Thinking about how to rebut you two, but rather than go all ad hominem on your ass, just listen to JP describe how it’s affecting him and ask yourself why you want to casually dismiss something that he, I, and many others find transcendently beautiful. Maybe you’re missing something amazing. I’ve played through my ‘real book’ lead sheet for this many times on piano, and even with my meagre skills the emotional arc that this piece patiently unwinds slays me every time. What Joe, Wayne, Jaco et al do with it is pretty much perfection. If you’re at all open to revising your hot take expressed above, I urge your to stop trying to dismiss it as resembling a category of music you’ve inclined to dislike and instead surrender to it.

@@woeizme What the fuck are you talking about?😮 Where did you see that I was criticizing? I think it sounds like lounge jazz but overall it's ok. As for Christian Adams, he finds it absolutely dreadful and that's entirely his right! You find it transcendentally beautiful, good for you! End of discussion.😉

No, don’t lie but maybe feel less compelled to repeatedly actively diss something that you’re failing to appreciate. You’re bored, we get it. In the spirit of communal appreciation, I’m suggesting your energy would be better expended asking yourself what you’re not getting, which might ultimately lead to enjoyment, rather than chiming in with several variations on ‘lame, lounge, amirite?’ in the comments. In your defense, I will say it’s easier to appreciate without the loose connection crackle throughout.

A nice calming track, a little Mike Posty at times but it reminds me of a sweeter time. Grabbed my guitar and went to my poorly done octaves and jazzy moves, it was fun. Guitar practice with a great band. Great way to start a Friday, it is for me.

No, no, no! You must listen to Boogie Woogie Waltz off of their album Sweetnighter! Nevertheless, this album enjoyed a heavy rotation in my place back in the 70's. Also I think herbal substances can enhance one's experience, which I haven't done for almost 40 years. So it's interesting to see new people experience this music without the aid of cannabis. When I hear this music today, I think back about when I was listening to it back then, so it's different for me than you I think. I met Jaco's wife once. RIP Jaco.

Jazz cheese of the ripest vintage. Excuse me while I open the window. This is dreadful stuff - the polar opposite of Miles Davis or John McLaughlin in that zero chances are taken (except maybe the synth) and the rock is entirely missing from jazz-rock. Sure you haven't put a Kenny G record on by mistake? Did John Coltrane die in vain?

This comment is dreadful stuff. This song is absolutely beautiful, one of the best jazz ballads ever made. Just because a vegetarian thinks eating meat is gross because whatever reasoning they have, doesn’t make a perfect steak any less delicious. Everybody is entitled to their opinion but I’m sorry to see someone speaking so lowly of a timeless classic
