Following on the Salt Chipping Technique, this video explores a process for weathering decals on model trains. While second in a series with a freelance boxcar, this video does stand alone as it shows some tips on how to weather not only applied decals, but also factory painted models as well.

This is an updated version of the combo set that I started with. The advantage of this newer version is that if you wanted to swap out needle sizes, it can be done with upgrade kits, and it comes with different sizes of paint cups. It comes with a 0.3mm needle as standard. This also comes with the same compressor that you saw in the video. I’ve been very happy with my setup. It has done everything I’ve asked it to. Fittings on this airbrush and hose are ⅛” which are compatible with Iwata hoses.

Thanks Joey! I will get into graffiti decals... although that one is going to be as much about repairing or salvaging decals as applying them.

I realized it'd be a good idea to do graffiti decals since they are an easy way to get something fancy, but they can be a little harder to get right. That's next :)

Idk think this is the video I’m looking for. I’m not looking for a videos about deckles, I’m looking for videos about decals (dee-cowls). Maybe I can find it somewhere else…..

What type or brand of decal paper do you use for decal you print yourself?
@JCsRiptrack
@JCsRiptrack 5 жыл бұрын
The decals on the grain elevator shown in this video were done on testors clear decal paper. I've not had much luck with their white decal paper, but the clear stuff works reasonably well. The drawback is that it is VERY thick, and I had to do multiple applications of micro-sol to get it to lie flat on the sides of the elevator. I now have some microscale paper in my possession which I am going to give a try at some point soon.

Hello John, do you have any tips on storing decals?.
@JCsRiptrack
@JCsRiptrack 5 жыл бұрын
I try to keep mine in a larger envelope of some description, but make sure that the side that the decals are on are never against the decal side of another sheet. You could end up having them stick together, especially if your climate is a bit more humid. My climate is pretty dry, so it's not something I have to worry about too much. Perhaps put a piece of paper in between each. If you really want to go all out, make sure the envelope and paper is acid free (I don't do the latter, but archivists do know something about keeping older pieces of paper intact for longer).

hmmm it seems pronouncing "decals" like your from London or Europe is that cool now or something im pretty sure since you have ZERO accent when you talk other than saying decals like your from Europe, Im guessing you do think its "cool" your from the United States so stop doing that its just embarrassing, no i dont go around being a troll but come on just STOP

I'm going to use this as a teaching moment. In a few of my videos, I've noted that my pronunciation of decal rhymes with "freckle." While I may sound like I have a zero accent to your ears, my accent is Western Canadian English. It's where I live and where I was raised. Since I have never lived in the United States, it means that a few phrases and words that we use may be a bit different, either in what we use or how we might pronounce it.

@@JCsRiptrack I'm an aircraft modeller who just stumbled on your channel. I grew up in Alberta and now live in BC. Your "accent" lol, is pure Western Canuck and I figured immediately that you might be one of us. I noticed the CN/CP rolling stock and the Sask. grain elevator as well....I feel like Inspector Clouseau.

@@JCsRiptrack I model all types of planes, mainly 1/72 scale. They're quite small, so I enjoy detailing them and making dioramas or vignettes with people and equipment to lend an indication of size. This is where you RR folks come in. You're the experts on scenery and architecture, so I cheerfully follow your lead. Subbed, so as Arnold once said, "I'll be back'.
