In this video we compare 3 products used for paint chipping and different techniques to show how varied the end results can be.
I'd suggest that you use the comparisons to decide what meets your modeling need closest, and then experiment to perfect the technique.

Nice vid mate, for me the order would be (Based on my own preference to the finished result) 1) Medium 1 (great finish) 2) Salt Version 1 (good course effect) 3) Medium Version 2 (nice fine effect) 4) Salt Version 2 (too blotchy/large) 5) Hair spray 1&2 (too scratchy not chippy)

Thanks for voting. I still use hairspary, although it can be less predictable at times. I really just wanted to show the different ways in one place.

Thanks for sharing. The salt looked much too chunky at first, but then when you did the washes it all pulled together. The single coat hairspray was horrible, yet the multi-coat hairspray effect was nice for something that is pretty "un-cared for" and desperately needs some rust prevention maintenance and a lick o' paint. But the chipping medium certainly has the pole position in the race.

I love your "no expense spared" basics hairspray and you "really cheap" cornish sea salt! made my day :) And you are the first person I have seen applying chipping medium through an airbrush rather than using a normal brush... perhaps the hairspray had you thinking "hair brush" lolz

😂 The hobby is already expensive enough, so if we can save a few pennies here and there........! Thanks for watching Ben 😍

I guess sugar would work although the granules would be finer and it may leave a sticky mess? 🥴 Glad the video was useful

Evening i hope your well, can I ask if you have done or are going to do any passenger stock in your weathering videos. Great work by the way. I've watched all of your videos so far and find them very useful

Hi. Thanks for watching. Actually I haven’t done any passenger stock in it entirety. I have some coaches to do for the website so I’ll see if I can put together a video at the same time. Is there a particular model that you have in mind?

@@BuntersYard mainly mk1's and LNER Teaks I model in N gauge and the teams I have are by dapol with the light bar fittings, I'm very nervous about weathering them then having them not work when completed
