A landslide in 2020 uncovered a bunch of archaeological finds in a small village on the East coast of Iceland. Beads, a ring, and this fragment from a woman's smokkr were found, and this piece of tablet weaving on the smokkr is a beautiful example of weaving from the 9th-11th centuries.
The patterns I create or find on Pinterest are pinned to my board here: / elewys . I will also post it on my blog.
Patterns can also be found at ladyelewys.carpevinumpdx.com/ and will be available after the video goes live.
The cards can be found here: www.etsy.com/shop/VytuVatu along with several other treasures for your weaving pleasures!

Tablet Weaving Pattern Generator (TDD):
* jamespbarrett.github.io/table...
* How to use TDD: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmPy6... which will walk you through the many great features of this software.
Yarns:
* Jagger Spun wool/silk blend.
* Maysville Carpet Warp, which can be found at several different weaving supply places (I often use WEBS at www.yarn.com). It comes in more than 70 colors on an 800 yard spool for about $9, so it can be used in a number of projects and the price is very reasonable.
* Maurice Brassard 8/2 cotton, which I purchased at woolery.com. It comes in 81 different colors and is really lovely to work with.
* 20/2 or 60/2 silk from Eowyn de Weaver has recently moved her store from Etsy. Each cone is $30 and comes in 18 different colors. There are also small 100 yard spools that run $5 each and comes in more than 2 dozen colors. New web site! www.eowyndewever.com
* Pearl cotton, size 8 or size 10 (or even 12, if you love to work with fine stuff), which can be found is most craft stores in a bunch of colors.
Sewing:
* I use 100% linen from Linen-Store.com in the IL019 weight for my tunics. The quality of their linen is very good, their prices are very reasonable and shipping is fast! Use "ILOVELINEN" in the discount code for an additional 7% off!
Cards:
* 2 1/2" wide (63 mm) made on a 3D printer, a pattern designed by my husband. Free downloadable patterns of other tablets are available on Thingiverse (this one is not my pattern--we are still working the kinks out of the design but these cards are Oseberg reproductions: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1806753, though I find that they are a bit thicker than I prefer.) Also, 1 mm thick cards can be found at www.thingiverse.com/thing:673389, or thing:4043270.
* 3 1/4" cards from Schacht Spindle Company, which run $8 for 25 cards. I love these because they are colored on the edges and they are thin but very durable. Similar cards are made by Lacis but without the colored edges.

About your garden and the bunnies… I highly recommend that you bury the chicken wire a couple inches down because we had a strawberry patch once never got a single strawberry, even though we chicken wired, because we figured out that the silly little things were getting in underneath the chicken wire Also thank you for these videos, I don’t have my loom yet, but I’ve been studying your videos in anticipation of its arrival, and I love the little histories that you give as well

I have just recently came across your videos, they are fantastic. I have now gone down the rabbit hole of tablet weaving. I have an inkle loom in an online cart to purchase once I get paid in a couple of days. I currently own a rigid heddle loom but decided i would be so much easier to have an inkle loom separate so I can be working on different weaving projects at once. I initially looked into this kind of weaving to make straps for bags I planned to make with my hand woven fabric :) but now I have so many more ideas thanks to watching your videos lol :) T x

Finally settled down to watch. Bliss! Hang on! What!! No tea!!! 🫖 Lovely pattern and the thread looks great. We’re harvesting pumpkins, tomatoes, zucchini (courgette). Just finished with beans and peas. Had corn this summer for the first time, yummy! Also herbs -thyme, coriander, basil, dill, marjoram and garlic coming on. Pays to be married to a gardener! Ha ha

I've only weaved with wool so far, it's frequently used here in Norway, so I don't know how sticky it is compared to other fibres. But I have bought some cotton for a yogamat strap, so I guess I'll find out soon enough 😅 I haven't had much problems with wear and tear on the thread, but it's not as thin as the one you're using here. Has worked well with both tablet weaving and Baltic pick-up weave, so no need to worry too much I think. Just got some seeds for chillis and peppers this weekend. Not tried those before, so it will be exciting to see how they turn out! Don't have much plans for planting this year, but some flowers will probably find their way into the garden. We did plant some bulbs in the autumn, but they haven't come up yet. Had a massive snowfall today, so it's a bit early still. We usually don't do bulbs any more as we have deer in the garden. While they are cute an everything, they really don't go well with gardening... 😔 Thank you for the video, Elewys! I definitely know about various tech issues, but I will keep my silence on that topic so I don't soil your chat 🤣

I missed this video because in March I was up to my ears in my senior thesis. I wrote and defended it (it was on the relationship between suffering and the life of virtue in the Catholic tradition) and passed with flying colors, and then I graduated from college! I now have a BA in theology with a minor in Italian. (Yes, I'm the one who asked for-- and greatly enjoyed-- the Italian tablet weaving video) And I'll be starting my Master's next month, also in theology. Going back to college in your thirties is not for sissies, especially when you've got mental health and neurodivergence issues too, but I DID IT and I'm so proud. Whenever I've needed to calm down or feel safe, I always watch your videos-- you are so calming and easy to listen to and I always feel right at home. Thank you so much for that. :)

Can confirm...wool is sticky! I have to be careful unwinding hanks of sock weight wool yarn because the fibers will latch on to each other and cause havoc. Thank you for this interesting channel. Wouldn't have known about tablet weaving without you. Cheers from Texas. Blackberries and Scotch Broom are also invasive in the Pacofic Northwest US, which has a climate similar to yours.

Thanks for sharing this pattern. Was looking for something quick but with a little bit of a challenge and this is just the thing! It is, in fact, because of your channel that I've started tablet weaving. It was something that I faintly knew existed, but never thought of giving a try. That is, until the algorithm sent your introductory video my way. You made it look so fun and doable. Am now the proud owner of a small but gradually growing collection of straps (the aim is, of course, a basket as full as yours, but that'll probably be years from now).

I'm very excited about my garden. Not that I can get anything out for another month where I live, but I am about to start some seeds indoors, as long as I can keep them from the cats. For anyone looking for container gardens with good volume, I highly recommend storage bins filled with planting soil (for cost, space friendliness, and rental friendliness. Also works for containing those pesky ones prone to taking over.

I keep the bunnies off my new shoots by dropping citronella tealight candles around the newly planted rows. I'm surprised the cottontails went for the alliums, I use garlic in the living room to keep my domestic long-eared twerp from chewing on things! I only just started my tomatoes and peppers last week, won't be able to plant them outside until mid-May unless I get a greenhouse up. Maybe I'll look at that when the snow's done... in a couple weeks I'll be planting the basil, brussels sprouts, bok choy, purple broccoli and cabbages, then at the end of the month the purple kale, purple kohlrabi, and rainbow swiss chard, also planning to plant purple potatoes, rainbow carrots and beets, parsnips, cucumbers, squash, purple onions, and pumpkins. And radishes, they grow so fast I use them as row markers when I plant the beets and carrots. Might try corn again but the racoons always seem to get it. I planted the garlic last fall. My first harvest will be jerusalem artichokes, I call them my apocalypse crop, I can harvest it while I'm waiting for the asparagus to get started, then I can ignore them till fall and get more than I know what to do with.

Did any of the Native American tribes use tablet weaving for their textiles? Some of the detail work they did indicates that tablets would make their job much easier, but I've only seen them finger weaving or using rudimentary heddle+shuttle work. I'm preparing to weave a tumpline and would appreciate any advice on the authenticity of the use of tablets for the task.

Hello I've just begun this pattern printed on your blog and done the 64 picks using pattern A . The note reads that to reverse the twist buildup to do the 2nd 64 picks in reverse? Does this mean to flip each tablet over and weave as printed or does it mean follow the pattern but the cards should be turned in the opposite direction - white backward instead of forward, grey forward instead of backward? There's nothing in my intro to card weaving book that addresses how to deal with twist buildup. Help!
