It's so satisfying seeing the pattern take shape as you weave it.

I've been enjoying your videos. It's given me incentive to save for a draw loom. Also thank you for reminding me about the snitch knot. This knot was taught to our local weaving guild by Janet Nyquist to attach a warp to the front apron with the larkshead made from knotted warp groups.

Thank you very much! I saved for years for my first drawloom, but like you I used the time to research and learn so I could hit the ground running when the big day arrived. I hope you'll keep in touch as you embark on this exciting weaving journey. And yes - the Snitch. It's the Best.

These videos are really helpful as I have the single unit draw system for my Glimkra but am having difficulty getting the shed right. When they sent my single unit kit I was told I did not need to have the extension to the loom but I find that I am unsure how far back the second harness needs to be to get clear shed. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Well, for a single-unit drawbridge the extension is not strictly necessary on the bigger looms (like the Standard) - but it is extremely desirable. It makes more room for the shed and also enables the back beam to be mounted higher up. The bigger extensions are great because they allow easy access to the inside of the loom for heddle-threading, etc. For single-units, extensions can be quite short, however - just 12" or so - and can just be boards mounted to the rear loom-frame for extending the distance to the back beam. The warp beam doesn't even need to move off its bolster in this arrangement (Sara von Treskow's book describes this pretty clearly). You may have other things going on that are interfering with your shed, however - if you would like to discuss further please feel free to write me privately.

I really enjoyed this video. I have a single unit Drawloom on my glimåkra and have 2 questions. I would like to add pattern shafts and use the loom the way you have it set up, combining shaft and single unit. Can you give me some tips about setting up this combination? Secondly, did I hear you correctly that you use fiber works to create your drawdown? I would like to know the best way to start with this process. Is it using profile drafts? I’m currently using the single unit Drawloom set up with 5 shaft satin. Any advice would be immensely appreciated.

Thanks Hetty! I would love to tell you that you can easily add pattern shafts to your Myrehed drawbridge but ... the combo unit is a single-unit add-on to the pattern-shaft setup. It is not intended to go the other way. Maybe you can cobble something together but it would not be straightforward, I'm afraid. As for FW, with the silver edition you are limited to 64 blocks, so it might not be the best bet for single unit designs unless you are happy to knit files together. There's a brief demo of how I use the program for shaft-draw designs in the vid 'Designing for the Pattern Shaft Drawloom'. How do you do your designing now? Most of the single-unit folks I know use software for counted cross stitch.
