Perhaps a dim question, but I need to add a digital voice phone to my smart hub 2 with a DV adapter. The docs say that I may have to reset my PIN to 0000 if it does not pair. I have looked high and low including the docs that BT tell me to do this and I cannot find anywhere to change my PIN. The only help that I get for BT sites and community is to reset my main hub password which is a lot longer than 4 digits and is not a PIN number. Any thoughts, please? Thanks

DV adapter looks like this? shop.bt.com/products/bt-digital-voice-adapter-100121-bt1-G4Z7.html This product is to allow you to use your old phone(s) on Digital Voice when not next to the BT hub. If so, I'd hope it was just a case of pressing the "recycle" type symbol on the adapter for about 3 seconds and then doing the same on the BT Hub. Then plug the normal phone cord into the adapter. You still need to use your old phone's base station or an original analogue corded phone. If you are trying to add a Digital Voice handset to the BT Hub then you don't need a voice adapter. If you are trying to add an old DECT phone to the BT hub you will still need the DECT phone's original base station.

Thank you for your informative video. We recently changed to BT FFTP using a Smart Hub2 and have experienced lots of random connection problems with some websites, and particularly our Freesat On Demand service. At 7:05 you set up Port Forwarding. How would I find the settings for External/Internal Ports and the protocol for different devices? Thanks in advance.
@freename
@freename 2 жыл бұрын
Port forwarding is only helpful for things outside of your home which connect to things within your home. A freesat box or similar using on demand content (e.g. iplayer or netflix) won't need port forwarding.

@@freename Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm slowly losing the plot since BT installed the new FFTP service and the Smart Hub 2. Weeks of problems like slow speed etc were resolved by an engineer in 2 mins when he showed me the mode settings that come factory set to Mode 1 which is limited to 3 devices. Any more added end up splitting the channel and slowing it down. He changed it to Mode 2 and now we have 150mbps. Shame he didn't check our cables as the BT supplied Cat 5e limited the speed to 93mbps! My question was 'clutching at straws' to be honest. BT point the finger at everyone else, Freesat point the finger at BT and the BBC iPlayer and the ITV Hub. My gut feeling is to sit tight and let it sort itself out.

@@PaulRansonArt Oh, never rely on WiFi.. its awful and variable. I support people every day and almost every complaint comes down to some crappy WiFi router, speed or incompatibility issue. I've just replaced my mobile phone because of a WiFi comparability issue with my Unifi (fairly expensive) WiFi access points. Also avoid Power Line Networking. The best alternative if your ISP router is crappy - probably TP Link Deco Mesh or Netgear Orbi mesh stuff. I've not seen BT provide a network cable with less than 8 wires in but if you reused one from a Hive, Nest or other device they often come with cheapo 100mbps cables. On that one - I don't think BT would have been the ones involved in such a cable.
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 2 жыл бұрын
@@freename I agree. I've used ethernet cable to connect our computers to the router which leaves me wondering why all these random connectivity problems with our Freesat box and the odd website. I know Microsoft has a free VPN /Proxy set up and wonder if that's the issue. The problem is finding a solution rather than stumbling around hoping to strike lucky.
@freename

Microsoft don't have a proxy/vpn service. And if there was one setup on your computer it would affect only that computer and not other random devices on the network.

I've read many a FAQ and various support pages which have said to plug the wan red cable into the 4th ethernet cable. Won’t work, What you’re describing works on some routers with dual wan failover support typically business/enterprise grade routers have this not home routers I’m afraid. Your best bet is to get a 3rd party router from Synology, Netgear or Linksys and best of all they will all work with any internet provider if you switch! Can always eBay the hub and use the cash for a 3rd party router, usually cost £100-130

Just unplug the Openreach modem and plug the new hub directly into the smaller phone cable to the wall? Keep or sell the Openreach modem. Dont sell your BT hub, BT now require you to return the hubs if you ever leave their services. If you don't return it you are charged!

icannotgetafreename We don’t know whether this individual has an ONT for fibre to the property or has VDSL, also openreach modems and ONTs are not the customers property but openreach property so do not sell them as it’s a hard time to get another ONT + having a modem gives greater choice of routers they can use. Don’t worry too much about BT coming after you for the old hub (hub 5), they don’t expect it back, BT don’t give new customers 2nd hand routers anyway haha. It’s for recycling the plastics and metal inside them, was never charged for my hub 5, best to keep the smart hub 2 in case of emergency but sell off your old one. Never ever sell off openreach equipment either modems or ONTs (Usually screwed onto the wall inside your home)

Hi, I want to set up an old BT router as a hard wired access point, but all the vids show the old interface. Would be consider a quick vid as you explain things very clearly. I think the problem with using modern BT hubs as wifi points these days is... you can't turn off IPv6 on them. So you will always have a thing sitting on the network assigning IPv6 addresses (and possibly routes) to all your devices causing routing problems or delays accessing IPv6 enabled websites (most major websites these days).

7:57 what does the export button do ? I tried it earlier when I thought it would save a pdf of the event log, but it seems to require the computer to be online. My mom's internet has been abysmal for the last 3 years. It takes my brother four weeks at best to download a game that otherwise would take me 15 mins. She's on BT and paying double the amount I do for Talk Talk. But don't know what to do to prove that the service has been pitiful at best. She's gotten to the age she doesn't do tech stuff and the last time she complained it ended up with her getting the hub "upgraded" and the service staying about the same.

Not sure what export does. I can see if I get time to test that in the next few days. For reliability and speed... www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL what does the checker say for her phone number (or address if phone number gets rejected). It should give you expected speeds, a handback threshold and hopefully a section saying observed speeds and the date they were recorded.

I have just received a smart hub 2 from BT and have an openreach modem. I turned off the wifi in advanced settings and am using an ethernet cable, but the router is still reading up to 6v/m on my Acousticom 2 meter. In my last flat with an old style router the readings went right down once the wifi was turned off on the router and laptop. I am electrosensitive so this is important to me. Can you explain what is going on and is there any other setting I should be aware of? BT have not been able to help.

Hello Maya, you can turn this off in your Hub settings online. It is the BT Wi-Fi hotspot (used to be called Fon). Just log in to your BT account and go to My Products. You in there you will find an "included in my products" section with BT Wi-Fi shown. It will either have a button that says 'manage' or ''learn more'. Click that button. It will take you to a page where you have to agree to the BT Wi-Fi terms and conditions and click 'Set up". Once you are in, just scroll down and you will find an option to "Opt Out'. Click that. It takes 24-48hrs to implement. So keep checking with your acousticom and you should find it gone in a couple of days. You can also check it's been deactivated by logging in to your Smart Hub Manager online - open a new window, type in 192.168.1.254 and it will bring up a screen with your hub details. You may need to enter the admin password which you'll find on the back of your hub. Once in, click on Status and scroll to the bottom where you'll find BT Wi-Fi. It will say 'active' while the hotspot is active but that should turn to Inactive once your opt out has been processed. Hope that helps...from a fellow electrosensitive :)

Hi great video can you turn router into modem mode so i can use my own router so i dont double Nat ? Thanks

No. But if you are an FTTC customer with the broadband coming in on the copper phone line you can replace the BT Hub with an Openreach VDSL modem (see ebay) and then plug your own ethernet router into the Openreach modem. Set your router to then do PPPoE and off you go.

If I turn off WiFi, will that then allow my eero mesh system to work without the BT WiFi interfering?
@freename
@freename 9 ай бұрын
Yes though the BT one being on still is unlikely to 'interfere' .. it will just be a name you see (and ignore) in the list of WiFi networks. If you do turn it off I believe the router will still transmit the BT WiFi or EE WiFI public network.
@mario2784
@mario2784 9 ай бұрын
I should’ve been clear, the interference is because (as advised in the eero setup) I used the same WiFi name and passkey so all my devices would automatically be on the network. But there are now two networks with the same details so some devices are on the BT and others on the eero!!!
@freename
@freename 9 ай бұрын
I see. In which case you would need to turn off the BT one.

Done, fingers crossed it helps…seems to be so far. Just made more sense to spend £100 on a mesh system I can use with any provider rather than £12/month with BT for the discs. As an aside, we have FTTP, could I have just plugged the Eero box into the Openreach box (the one that the line comes into) and not used the BT Hub?
@freename
@freename 9 ай бұрын
No point giving any more money to BT than you have to! If the eerrorooroo supports PPPoE you could indeed use it as a router directly into the openreach "ONT". Username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and any password.

That means it is attempting to connect to broadband. Make sure you've plugged it in correctly. If you have a single socket on your wall then you need to use a broadband filter (the white box with the two sockets). If you have two sockets on your wall then you probably need to plug directly into the DSL socket on the wall rather than using an ADSL filter.

That isn't possible. It isn't a function built into any of the BT Hubs. You would need to use the software on your computer or, if you want your entire network to go through a VPN, use something like a raspberry pi to redirect the traffic. Or replace the BT hub with a router that does support the VPN protocol your VPN provider uses.
