I take the carburetor off and do a baseline / bench tune to reset and make so I can re-tune the carburetor. I was going to show the tuning process but it really difficult to actually get the camera angles and I end up not getting very great footage .. instead we're just going to do the bench tune.

I installed one of these on my 4.2 wrangler. It ran great, but eventually caused oil dilution due to wrong jetting as supplied. Lost a rod bearing. use a wideband oxygen sensor and tune it right.

Best Trevor. Thanks for the nice video , but ,,, can you tel me what the yet nr/sizes are. I bought a new one at redline , but with the wrong jets. It is build on a '83 AMC Eagle with the same engine as your J10. Hope you can and wil help me out. Thanks in advance Jeeperke.

I have an empi 38 egas carb that looks a lot like this, do you know if they just copied Weber?

I thought the idle speed screw was max of 1 1/2 turns once it made contact? I guess that's my issue
@BotvsMon

Yes, my understanding as well. Turn until it makes contact and then 1.5 additional turns in.

Let me ask you a question, as I just recently rebuilt one of these carbs and cleaned all the Jets while at it but after reinstalling it on my 1975 Volkswagen bus and trying to start it it's now idling all over the place and running on with the key off andI can't seem to get an adjustment on it even though I followed your instructions to the letter . Hmmm?

Late I know but if it's running on then the engine is drawing a positive charge from somewhere that keeps the spark going slightly.maybe through a starter or alternator that's on the way out. Or bad wiring. If the engine is turning the carb will give fuel.the spark dying is what will kill it,or put it in top gear foot on the brake and jerk the clutch up

Will this work on other motors? Cause i have the same carb but different motor (22R to be exact)
@TrevorWing

I pulled the baseline tune from a website (not sure which) so I'm pretty sure it'll be fine to use it on a toyota motor. Good luck!

I am wondering why you removed the carb? All of the adjustments you made could easily have been done with the carb on the intake.

Absolutely, hard to show it on camera though.

And thank you Trevor, excellent vid, liked it much. I've got one of these on an old 88 wrangler, it's getting really poor mileage this winter, I'm gonna check it out soon.

Check out a Motorcraft 2150. They work great on the 258 cu motor and is so much easier to tune and play with. If I could redo it (well I sold the truck so I don't have to worry about it anymore) I would put the 2150 on it and never look back. The Weber 32/36 is a great carb, but can absolutely be temperamental at times.

Dude the choke closes when you tap the throttle before you start it.. backing out that choke screw you pretty much killed your high idle setting..

Why not a manual choke ?
@TrevorWing
@TrevorWing 6 жыл бұрын
I actually went for an automatic water choke. Personally I think it worked the best since it heated up and cooled down with the car. Manual choke would work as well but I just would have to run a line into the car for it.
@TrevorWing
@TrevorWing 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of a manual choke if I don't have to. I ended up changing it to a water choke down the line.

Trevor the 32/36 DGEV is too small for that Jeep 6 cyl engine. The Weber 38 DGES is virtually the same size as the original Carter BBD and the Motorcraft 2100/2150. I see you put the correct "size" carb on and works great... To bad someone sold you the 32/36 DGEV, too too small. That is why you had trouble tuning it.
@TrevorWing
@TrevorWing 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, the Weber 32/36 DGEV is actually a really common carb for the inline 6, 258 cu engine. Check it out online. Obviously, mileage may vary. Jeep is sold and long gone, but once it was dialed in it ran like a top.

@@TrevorWing hey Trevor, I'm surprised you replied. I have worked at REDLINE Weber as a tech for 20 years and tech these carburetors every day. I guess I chimed in on the information because the original Carter BBD has 2 throttle plates that measure 1 1/2" and both open at the same time. The Weber 38 DGES is extremely close with 2 throttle plates at 38mm each that open at the same time, making the 38 DGES the replacement size. The 32/36 DGEV works on 1 throttle plate at 32mm untill half throttle when it STARTS to open the second barrell. This is too small for a 6 cyl engine. I am glad you were able to get it to work, as it takes a lot of work to get them working. Glad you sre still connected here.
@tomengle7176
@tomengle7176 5 жыл бұрын
@@TrevorWing also my belief is these are common on the 6 cyl because the 4 wheel drive places don't really know. They just go by what they can sell. And, I appreciate all that they need to know to do that type of work.

@@tomengle7176 Ahh! Glad to talk to an expert. I appreciate your insight into it. That doesn't surprise me that they'll sell whatever they can. I would have went with a motorcraft if one was in stock when I needed it. Anyway, thanks for the knowledge!

@@tomengle7176 I haven't bought one yet for my Chevy 235 ci because of all the conflicting information. When you run a CFM calculator, in my case for a Chevy 235, the engine calls for 200-220 CFM at 3,500 RPM. These carbs are rated at 390 CFM with the secondary open. Are you saying the primary circuit is too small?
