Part 1: • How to Make a Boring H...
This is part 2 of my boring head build in which I finish this toolmaking project.
In this second episode I make the adjustment screw with fine thread and dial and the bearing parts which hold the screw in place. After this I finish the main body parts including some milling into final shape and drilling all the boring bar holes. In the end I electro etch the markings to the boring head body and the scale and numbers to the adjustment screw.
I hope you find this build interesting. Feel free to comment and ask your questions and suggestions below in the comment section.

Absolut erstklassige Arbeit. TOP.

Thanks for your comment! What do you mean exactly? Which alignment do you mean?
@taucomini591
@taucomini591 6 ай бұрын
@@WeCanDoThatBetterI mean the synchronization between the screw thread, the internal thread and the markings on the dial. So that when the dial reads 0 the runout on the boring head is actually 0. I hope this makes sense.
@olieboer
@olieboer 6 ай бұрын
@@taucomini591i think it doesn't really matter. All operation on a boring head are relative to the previous iteration, so you cut, measure, adjust the offset and cut again. 0 doesn't really mean 0 mm diameter
@taucomini591
@taucomini591 6 ай бұрын
@@olieboer Yes, for the operation it does not matter. However, if you look at the final assembly, when the boring head is perfectly aligned (the finishes of the upper and lower part match) the center mark on the body also matches the zero mark on the dial. This blows my mind 🙂, because if you do not synchronize the threads somehow, the position of the zero mark would be arbitrary, right?

Thanks for your kind comment! This tool is for machining bigger holes with decent precision. In the holes in the bottom of the boring head will be a cutting tool inserted, similar to the boring bars used on the lathe. It does basically the same as when boring out holes on the lathe except that the tool is rotating and not the workpiece. I hope that makes sense :)

quite good for hobby machinist, although boring head camping methond actually bad, it will throw off random values when clamped, cuz whole assembly moves. I know you have limitation on tooling and machines. Look into weights for counter balance the boring head, helps with surface finish.
