I wish I had the full clip of that guy making the announcement about tossing your phones and iPad into the river! I would shot this to every event coordinator. He really makes sense in that let the pros do the photography and video and just sit back and enjoy the event.

Does white balance even matter if you are shooting in RAW? I just pick a temperature like shade or cloudy for the backscreen preview if I want to get an idea of how it will look in post. Most of the time I just shoot AWB-W and leave it at that. Or I'll pull out a gray card and set my temp with that.

I never really comment, but I cannot say how much I appreciate this channel. I've been following since 2015, I believe, and even after all this time there's still gems on this channel. Thanks a lot for posting them; I'm recently trying to get back into photography and aiming for a career change and your insight helps so much! Again, thank you for making these videos public, they're both entertaining and a learning opportunity.

Excellent video and tips, Taylor. Even for an 8-year video veteran, I loved watching you film and even got some tips, thank you. I'm also handheld 90% of the time, but recently ditched the ND filters and found I enjoyed filming so much more. at 60p ,ie. in slowmo, the jitters get smoothed out enough, just liek how it smoothes out shaky footage. I'm a perfectionist for doing things right, but it killed my creativity and mojo on the day. So yeah, 2x Fuji's, one on 85mm f1.2 and one on 24mm f1.4 and that 's it. That's pure joy for me now. Thanks again!

Taylor, I discovered your channel a couple months ago and have since fallen in love with your storytelling and personality! You're awesome. Photography has been my hobby for 10 years and I shot my brother's wedding a couple years ago. I've recently been getting the itch to shoot something big again, but in a way that connects with my full time job of being a freelance video editor. And I think this is it! A three minute wedding highlight video all shot solo+handheld. I love the idea and your execution! Thanks so much for sharing this idea and everything you know and it. I'm going to reach out to some local wedding photographers and ask them if I can do this then for either cheap or free. 😁

For those of you who are starting out, the basic 50mm 1.8 ($180 or less) is really a good lens for what it is. Even the old EF 50mm 1.8 adapted to the RF mount works really well. Which is what I have and it works really well with my Canon R5. If you use a crop sensor (APS-C) camera, it becomes an 81mm prime lens. With Canon APS-C sensors you take the mm of the lens and multiply by 1.6 to get the equivalent mm as if you where shooting with a full frame sensor. Many photographers are able to shoot most weddings with an 85mm prime, so 81mm is close enough. The 50mm is very lightweight which makes it an easy choice for a backup lens you always carry around. I've also noticed when I shoot with my Nifty Fifty people seem less intimidated. This is good if you do street photography with people in your shots. What are the disavanges of Nifty Fifty? Well I do see a little purple fringing and sometime greens appear, but all those can be quickly corrected to some degree. Some software will automatically detect it and reduce it. That said, we photographers will notice it because we are trained to see it. I've never had a client say, why do some of your photos have purple fringing? So don't worry about it even if you don't remove it. Second issue is older EF 50mm 1.8 were a little noisy if you were using the built-in microphone on your camera and were filming video. First off, never use the built-in mics for video. Just don't! Problem solved! That's about it. It's really the perfect beginner first lens or the experts backup.

I pretty much never bother with a zoom recorder/direct line since I started using the Sony mic+sleeve that Tim introduced me to. The audio from it is usually perfect, the battery lasts for a whole reception (and more) and I never have to bother with cables etc! That said I do usually run a couple backups, but usually end up using the handheld recorder in the final edit. Also: I’ve been doing this for a while (and have even worked with you lots) and still pick up nuggets of information from these videos. Thanks Taylor!

@@TaylorJacksonPhoto damn that’s annoying lol and you aren’t really the type of guy to spend time putting lav mic’s on people I guess right? If it’s for speeches you could put a lav/recorder on the podium, hiding the lav as much as possible behind the mic stand. If they don’t use a podium just tell the couple they aren’t getting audio at that venue lol

For those of us who are annoyed 🙄 that Canon didn't include a photo/video switch for us hybrid shooters using R5 or R6, I've reprogrammed my multi function button (M Fn) to to switch to video mode in C1. It works really well as I'm able to record a few short clips and press the MFN button again to go back to photo mode. The only gripe I have is the record button is so high up on the body it's hard to reach and press. I can't reprogram the shutter button to function as a record button. Other than that, I'm quite happy with my solution.

Is it easier to use a Sony FDR-AX53 camcorder to take the video. It has a better built-in microphone than a Canon R6. It is lighter and more ergonomic to hold and cheaper too. It has 20X lens and better image stabilizer. The bigger sensor for Canon R6 mirrorless cameras may only have small differences in the video quality but 4K video need only a 8MP sensor.

Been a longtime fan and just became a member! Looking forward to taking in more education and seeing your approach to wedding photography - I’ve learned so much already and relate to you as i’m an introvert as well and always find myself on 85 or 70-200 😂 . Question… Is there somewhere on the member’s site where we can learn more about how you film these BTS videos? You’ve inspired me to starting putting myself out there more. Thank you for all you do and who you are!

Hi Jackson, I am a videomaker you have weddings I work alone together with photographers. I have a canon r6 mark 2 and a 5d mark iii, I own only EF lenses, 24-105 f4 70-200 f2.8, 50 f1.4, 16-35 f2.8. I also love to do photography, I will soon be called as a second photographer as well, I would like to invest in two lenses, however, I don't know if it is the right thing to continue with EF or to go on the new Canon RF series, I would like a 24-70 f2.8 to replace my 24-105 f4 and a 35mm, what do you recommend? Thank you very much

I have seen this phenomenon on a buddy’s edit. I think it could be your processor, if it is during pre-render playback. If you lower the resolution or edit a proxy, it will playback smooth. Also, I have heard that interlaced footage can do some weird things as well, if placed on a 24fps timeline, but not slowed down. Reason being that 36 frames per second are thrown away, but the movement in the remaining 24 frames is not fluid. The editing software pulls out frames and sometimes these frames are important. I hope this helps.

I'm not seeing the market going to only video. My market in Boston everyone hires a photographer and only the people with money will get photography and video. I only been to one wedding that went over my time limit of six hours and they did not want to pay over time so they just had the videographer cover the reception.
