Fair play to you, love your positive attitude and you obviously show a lot of passion for what you do, but what really inspires me is that you shot an 85 for all of this video. It give me great comfort in knowing that I can successfully shoot a wedding that I have booked ( 1st for photo & video ) in a weeks time, especially with my 3 lenses 35/85/135. Will be buying your coarse for extra support and to see how you do it. Thanks for being who you are and for producing such great content!

@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Was about to purchase your " Book more Weddings + bonus package " but noticed the price is in US Dollars and not Canadian! Aren't you a Canadian photographer based in Ontario Canada? Why is there no mention that the price is in fact in US dollars on your website and not Canadian? I think that is very deceptive and has just turned me off the purchase.

Global economy runs in usd and so does my online sales business sadly. If you join Patreon there’s a $50 additional coupon code that would make up for the difference (and also come with a ton of other stuff that makes it worth it- it’s $20 but you don’t have to renew next month if you don’t want) So I guess it’s only technically $30 in savings hah, but many other things

Great video and good commentary. Very educational. In case you didn't know this, custom Setting d3 allows you to make ISO visible on top LCD at all times. It will override approximated shot count, but that info is still also visible on at viewfinder.

I love the 85. On the other hand, primes are stressful at weddings.
@cslattfri
@cslattfri 5 жыл бұрын
Curious why you feel that way. I'm asking because I'm getting another DSLR and am torn between the 70-200 and the 85mm. I like the idea of having 200mm so I can get shots from a distance and Nikon's 70-200 is very, very good. But the 85mm is amazing also and perfect for portraits. I was almost set on the 70-200 until I saw this video. The 70-200 is so big and HEAVY! OMG. So I am now considering the 85mm because of this video. Currently on my D750 I have the 24-120 and I also have the 14-24 but I never use it for weddings. I'd love to hear your thoughts on why you think a prime lens would be stressful (have never used one).
@poopdaddy4217
@poopdaddy4217 5 жыл бұрын
@@cslattfri If you were to have to choose between one or the other, I'd definitely suggest the 70-200 as it's a wonderful all-rounder. The 85 (1.8 or perhaps, 1.4) gives you that extra creamy background and it's super sharp... on the other hand -you have to zoom with your feet and that's not great at weddings when you can find yourself either darting around too much, or worse, being backed into a corner unable to get the frame :)
@cslattfri
@cslattfri 5 жыл бұрын
@@poopdaddy4217 That's one of the things that appeal to me about the 85mm 1.4- the extra creamy background. But I suspect you are right. There will be instances that it would be difficult to use my feet as a zoom. Now I have a new thought process: buy the 70-200 now and save for the 85mm. I don't do a ton of weddings, I will have to hustle to get more so I can justify the purchase. Thanks so much for responding. What you said I knew in my heart, I guess I just had to hear it. When I win lotto, I'll have them ALL!!!!!!!!!!
@poopdaddy4217
@poopdaddy4217 5 жыл бұрын
@@cslattfri Thank you for the kind reply. I doubt you will regret going for the 70-200, it's a beautiful lens and very versatile. If you wanted to add the 85mm into the mix, you could save quite a bit going for the 1.8 ... I personally own that as well as the 70-200 and use it predominantly when I have greater control over the environment and subjects.... Either way - the 70-200 will be your favourite lens in no time, I'm sure :) Happy shooting! :)
@cslattfri

@@Happymali10 I went with the 70-200. I figured it's called the "wedding lens" for a reason. Now I have my eye on a 35mm prime. IT IS NEVER ENDING!! Gotta save my pennies for that one though! I'm out of cash! :)

Dude how crazy different a style, but very cool. I have been shooting since the 1980's and it is refreshing to see the newer style. I always use what I have which is my workhorse 35-350 3.5-4.5L and 20-35 2.8-3.5 on my Canon 5Dmk 2. Which was an upgrade from my Canon 40D then 50D. @@TaylorJacksonPhoto(scratching top of head): Hmm...go figure! Must be demographics, as that was the case when I first started shooting weddings in the Detroit market, during the film era. You were not consider a "professional photographer" if you were not shooting with a medium format. As a matter of fact, many of us used that fact as a tool during the wedding consultation to differentiate us from the weekend warriors. However, just 4 hours away in the Chicago market, 35 mm reigned as king...demographics. Great BTS video. (Oh, and I corrected my typos in my original comment...darn auto-correct!)

Great work Taylor! I’ve primarily stuck to using a 35 & 85 combo for weddings and it’s just right every time. Although I must admit I’ve been getting bored of the 85 of late and been shooting more 135 just to get a little closer and wanting more Bokeh. As single body and lens setup I’d have to go for a 1.4 50mm
