This is so refreshing to hear that your R5 is your work horse on photo and video side of things. I've held off on purchasing it due to the concerns of the heat and reliability. It's nice to hear that you haven't had any of the issues in a 1 chance scenario like a wedding!

I’ve been using the R6 and the 28-70 and the 70-200 RF for the last 3 weddings and 8 photojournalist jobs and it’s changed my life. I completely agree with you on not constantly changing my 24 prime, 35 prime, 50 prime and 85 prime(sold all those L primes on eBay and scored the 28-70 refurbished from Canon factory for $2300!) . People complain about the size and price of this lens but it’s basically four lenses in one. I enter the room and just focus on what’s happening. Less gear, more focus. Not to mention I’ve been shooting weddings with the Canon 5D Mark four for the last four years and switching to mirrorless (which everyone did years ago with Sony, I just didn’t like the menus, feel of the camera, too small, I have big hands, color science, over sharpened video look, lens options, etc.) has been awesome!

Back in the late 1960s, when I first started shooting weddings, the photographic studio where I was working, issued me a medium format camera with a fixed normal lens. Years later, I purchased a medium format camera with 55/80/180mm lenses. Today, if forced to shoot a wedding with only one lens on a full-frame digital camera, I would use a 28-70mm f/2.8 Nikkor zoom. If forced to shoot a wedding with only one lens on an APS-C digital camera, I would use a 16-55mm f/2.8 Fujinon zoom.

Such a simplistic setup, I'm jealous. Recently got the R5 and believe I've found a killer combo of lenses. I've got a sigma 50mm 1.4, a Canon 85mm 1.4, and a sigma 24-35 f2. Means I can pair either prime with the zoom and have a great combination. (The 24-35 is basically two primes haha)

The good thing about your setup is that you can shoot in crop mode on the R5, thus giving you a reach equivalent of about 110mm and still have enough resolution. Then the need for a longer focal length is dimished a lot.

Hey Teppo! Nice video! I was always taught to have 2 cameras on weddings at all times regarding camera failure. I had an older sony fail on me on the reception back in 2018 and my backup was 3 metres from me haha! Good thing the second shooter got it right. Now I have a sony a99 (bigger body) on one strap. with either 35 f1.8, 50 f1.7 and 90mm f2.8 and I have a fujifilm xt20 with either 9mm f2.8, 16mm f2.8 or 35mm f1.4 on the other hand. The fuji is so light and small that it doesn't add much on weight, while it gives me a really nice quality. I'm slowly changing into fuji because I began on sony dslrs and no one wants to repair them in brazil, sold 3 bodies in the last 12 months. And I decided to go for better lenses instead of a better body first. Most of the time I'll be shooting the 90mm f2.8 and the 16mm f2.8 - But I do some variations depending on the other photographer gear and on the scene. I though on going canon RP... I think canon nailed it's mirrorless lineup for us photographers, but I wouldn't have any money left for lenses lol... The fuji was the most cost effective system I could get. Also, I love when you talk about weddings, I'm really into those but I barely get booked, Trying to find my way through. One more thing, it would be nice if you talked about church service photography, I don't know if that's something you're into, but I think maybe yes. God bless you man!
@timgomes4810
@timgomes4810 3 жыл бұрын
oh, talking a bit more of your setup, it's a the dream setup if you think on minimal... This canon lens rocks! F2 on fullframe has lots of depth of field and it's so versatile. I had an apsc 16-50 f2.8 which I loved, but it was for sony and I sold all my apsc. Now I'm going a prime only way so that I can be more creative. Maybe in future I'll afford some premium zoom lenses as well

Nice to hear in your experience the R5 hasn’t had any overheat issues when shooting short form video, which is what I shoot for hospitality. I was thinking as I watched how I often want the much tighter, 70-200, kind of shot and how the 70mm may not cut it. Simply as I use a 24-70 and find the extra reach of say a 24-105 is where I need it to be. That said, with all the data in the R5 stills you can crop in and get that tighter shot and still have a boat load of data for an amazing print. As for longer form video, push come to shove, you could always shoot in a cropped 4K on the odd occasion you may need it. I’d I wanted to shoot longer form 4K video, I’d probably get a Cine camera or rent one for the shoot. Again, thanks for this video. Wedding shooting is about as close to real world use for what I do so your experiences, especially with the overheating, is very valuable.

honestly I was thinking about the same thing. I ALWAYS used prime lenses. A few days ago I bought the canon R6 and they only had the packaging with the kit lens and so I bought it. First I didn't want to use the lens at all, but then I tried it out because the adapters are sold out everywhere... and I love it! Of course, I would upgrade and buy a lens with a better aperture, but it feels so much easier and not super heavy with two camera bodies and two lenses. I didn't know they now have a zoom lens with f/2. Sounds amazing!

It feels like a superpower to shoot at that aperture and the ladies love it and they don’t understand why. So far I got 2 laughs from 2 promoters about the size of the lens. I know this is a very odd question to ask you. In your entire 10 years as a wedding videographer/photographer. Have you ever made any mistake during filming a wedding that almost made you quit when you first started years ago? Keep the Good job coming,love your content.

n 1990 I bought the Canon 28-70 f2.8/f4 L, I then upgraded that around 1999 to the Canon 28-70 f2.8 L and used it with my last film camera the EOS 1V, until I bought my first digital camera in 2008 the EOS 1DS mark 3. So for nearly 30 years I have shot weddings with this focal length, that’s all I needed.

@@TeppoHaapoja As a wedding photographer and videographer, I'm looking for a universal lens and I have a feeling that it could be RF 28-70, but I need to test it first because the R5 has an ibis and it could be a good option for video as well. What is your experience? Thanks Tepoo!

@@TeppoHaapoja It is, but I feel like the grip has more depth to it on the R so my fingers are not so tightly pushed up against the body. But then again that probably just goes back to the body being bigger in the R5 in general.
