Xavier doesn’t love Wednesday for who she truly is, he loves her for who he thinks she is or could be. It was Tyler who always stood by her, protected her, and still let her be her spooky self. Xavier can’t get it through his head that Wednesday isn’t interested in him. By all accounts, she finds him mildly annoying, stalker-ish, and controlling and their relationship only becomes light friendship on her side because he is useful for her goal of finding the hyde out of her own curiosity, and then vengeance, not for justice or morality. She likes Tyler because they are alike in their sociopathic, morbid nature. She doesn’t mind him being a serial killer, since she nearly killed boys out of vengeance with a smile on her face and her family is full of serial killers and murderers, and she also enjoys the fear of her victims. Even after he kidnaps her they flirt in their own threatening/sociopathic/weird way and he waits so long before killing her almost like he is waiting for someone to interfere like Enid did since he was ordered and compelled to kill her but didn’t really want to. Xavier doesn’t understand that she literally doesn’t care about Tyler’s prank because she would have done worse and isn’t the sweet, moral girl he delusionally thinks she is. She commended Tyler’s prank vs being judgmental because it was mean and he smiled at her putting in the pool and almost killing boys vs being horrified like moral Xavier would’ve been. Xavier constantly judges and gets mad at her for her lack of showing her emotions and lack of interest in him and his feelings. When she goes to Xavier in prison she does so because he is useful to her and she is pissed that she was tricked by Tyler and wanted to get even, not because she cared about his feelings or was remorseful for putting him in there. Xavier doesn’t understand her and tries to change her to be more emotionally available and moral. Tyler accepts her for who she is. Now that he is no longer being controlled by Laurel, maybe Tyler and Wednesday can get their chance to be happy with someone who understands them :)
