Weed psychosis is a real problem. Cannabis induced psychosis is a real problem, especially among younger users. I am not talking about the temporary high, and disconnection someone gets from weed. I am talking about longer lasting episodes of psychosis. Please watch this brief video by AddictionMindset Recovery Coaching LLC to learn more about cannabis induced psychosis.
This is growing more and more common among younger users who smoke carts or use dab pens. Much of this issue may be due to the black-market THC cart products available today. Many THC carts are not from a valid state approved retailer and this could be one of the many side effects of blackmarket carts.

If you are struggling with cannabis induced psychosis this video is for you! Dr. Frank aka docfrankhere breaks takes a deep dive into the stages of psychosis, the treatments and solutions.
Psychosis has many causes and certainly not everyone who smokes weed will experience psychosis. Although substance induced psychosis is an issue, genetics, trauma, physical injury, and underlying mental disorders must be investigated.

I smoked weed on a regular basis from the age of 16 to 26. I'm 27 now and haven't smoked in about 6 months and feeling so much better. Towards the end of my smoking days It got so bad to the point where I was having extreme anxiety every time I would smoke. My mind would just go to the darkest worst thoughts possible and I'd tear myself apart over past mistakes etc, there's nowhere you can run or hide when you're under attack from your own mind.

I think you guys just have schizophrenia or bipolar. if the cannabis is making it worse. You are also probably smoking sativa strains, I bet. you need to smoke indica strains and if you have a mental health issue, you need to be careful with cannabis. it could aggravate it. but it will not cause the problem in of itself. If you are having these kind of problems, you should go see a psychiatrist. not quit cannabis.

This is the video that finally made me realize I'm an addict. I was experiencing prodromal psychosis symptoms when smoking weed and even after realizing it I still was unable to stop. If I never watched this video I would've still been using cannabis thinking it was helping the issue and never recognized how my addictive tendencies were destroying my life. I'm happy to say I've been sober from all substances except caffeine, which I don't believe presents any issues for me as I'm taking very small amounts. Prior to this, I had been addicted to nicotine as well, which I stopped using when I recognized my unhealthy relationship with weed, so I also have that to thank you for. You've corrected my path in my life and I'll forever be grateful Dr. Frank, thank you, I'm only 19 years old so I can't imagine how destructive my addictive tendencies would've been had I not caught them at this age.

Seeing multiple people going through this completely changed my perspective on weed. Being a daily user for 15 years with no effects that I consider bad I was convinced it had no detrimental effect. I believe the breeding of cannabis focused towards increasing thc and reducing CBD in the process is creating interactions with the plant that might otherwise not happen.

@@CapibaraWinter no, that's completely false. I have seen it in a person their very first time smoking weed. Again months later during the 2nd ever interaction with cannabis. I want to stop and have decided to stop today. I have been a smoker since I was 16 years old. I am so tired of feeling sick, fighting my addiction for years.. I have stopped here and there sometimes for a year at a time but I always have gone back to weed. I want to stop feeling crazy and stop overthinking all the time. Great video, great that someone really stands up and talks about this serious problem that is getting worse and worse all the time. However, I don't think it's normal to get many warning signs. Among the many people I personally know who have suffered horrendously from this mental disease, all I hear is that it hits you like a ton of bricks. Open and creative people seem to be more prone than shallow and superficial personalities. Hereditary issues, well maybe, but the latest research shows it has only limited influence. Why on earth were we not told about these things before they opened the floodgates?

hey so im glad i found this video. i too have been suffering from minor symptoms of cannabis educed psychosis. ive more or less been smoking everyday for the last year and the effects of that finally caught up to me about 3 weeks ago. At first when i started smoking everything felt great its exactly what i wanted it to be. it became apart of my routine slowly. Im a person who stays very active in the gym and aswell as keeping up with my nutrition since in the near future i want to study to be a nutrionist. somewhere during my time smoking everyday slowly i started to feel some of the symptoms mentioned in your video like distorted vision, feelings of nausea and lack of hygienic care, aswell as isolation. At first i didnt think it could really be the weed i didnt want to belive it, but deep down i knew that what i was smoking was affecting me. i didnt want to belive at first that it was addiction, but i held myself accountable and i was able to identify my problem withe weed. not too long ago i bought a cart. i didnt think much of ot but deep down i had feeling of guilt for feeding into my addiction and knew i shouldn't've have bought it. The cart that i bought ended up being the reason why im quitting cannabis so im glad that i bought it. the night i smoked that cart it felt like i was hit by a truck i felt sick my head was spinning i immediately regretted it. i recorded a video of myself during the high and its hard to watch my eyes are just aimlessly wandering my lips looked pale i knew from that enough was enough. the next day i called my friend i needed t o talk to talk to someone about it and since that day 3 weeks ago ive been doing great but i have a ways to go for the most part no feelings of withdrawals, slight cravings but giving in. i goals and in retrospect i was putting them aside and now its time to get on track. Im glad that i was able to realize these things in the moment and not have to suffer more from lack of accountability and thankyou for this video this helped me realize im not alone in this fight :)

I was scared out of my mind I had to reach out to family and try to explain to them what was going on.

Dude I thought I was the only one. Abused weed since I was 11 and quit when I was 21. My whole life improved so much. About 3 months after quitting, I rolled my girlfriends joint. I would roll her joints every night as she didn’t quit and used weed in a much healthier way only smoking about one joint a day. I rolled her them as she can’t roll and one night the weed smelled so good and the joint was so perfect. I took one hit, and I was fucked up. I felt completely disconnected from reality and almost my own body. My arms looked weird and seemed to turn green and I found myself contemplating my own life and what my purpose is and why I’m alive. It felt like a bad acid trip and I instantly regretted smoking. It’s been over a year since that night and I’ve never once considered going back it negatively impacted my life in almost all the ways you mentioned. So happy I got away from that.

This video has struck a chord with me because I used cannabis from the ages of 18-20 and I think i entered a period of weed induced psychosis. I completely neglected my personal hygiene during that time and i started to become increasingly paranoid and suspicious of other people. My thought processes became more distorted and I often found it increasingly difficult to concentrate. I adopted some highly controversial, philosophical views during that period such as Antinatalism and, although quite eye opening, they did start to become quite delusional. Of course now I recognise this but at the time i had no idea my thought processes had become so skewed. Thanks.

Wow this is so important. People seem to underestimate the consequences that come with everyday/regular cannabis use so much. I wish I found a video like yours when I was having a psychosis in 2017. With 14 I got into the "wrong circles" of friends and so I started smoking weed for half a year. Of course being the edgy teen I was, it was a lot of fun for some time, though one day I woke up feeling immensely off. Like the world was "tilted" a bit and like as if I just got off a rollercoaster. Reality felt so far away and I couldn't seem to recognize my surroundings, like suddenly nothing felt familiar anymore, like you described the "blur". I got panic attacks because of this and was worrying that my life is ending somehow. Days later I couldn't go to school anymore, the people there were way too loud for me and all the lights were too bright, all of was extremely panic inducing to me. The next 2 years I stayed inside, it only got worse and I was very paranoid. I thought I'd get killed or something terrible is going to happen when I go outside. My mom didn't know how to help me, so we just "waited it out" and thankfully it got better again in 2019. But oh boy I don't wish this my worst enemy. So thank you a lot for your education!!

Its not just some thing u can reflect on and speculate whether u have it or not (THIS ONLY PROVES UR VERY SANE MY FRIEND), psychosis is one of the most serious mental illness there is, and if ur able to even think whether u have it or not u simply don't, the symptoms he mentions can be mentioned for so many other illnesses.

I started smoking at 13 years old. I definately had an issue with psychosis between the ages of 16-18. I would go on to quit cannibis from 19 years old, all the way until 26, where I have started again over the last year for medicinal benefits due to my physical health, that being reiters syndrome/reactive arthritis in my knees. I'd struggle with paranoia, and the best way I could describe is, enter dream states in consciousness. I'd never had an issue with sleepwalking or talking in my life. One night at around 17 years old, I woke up in the middle of the night, having been banging on my bedroom door and laying on the floor believing I had just been shot from a home invasion. Both my parents woke up and told me nothing had happened, they just heard banging on my door, which would have been me. This is mostly why I quit. The issue I believe, was smoking whilst I had a developing brain. I believe many of the issues and side affects with the drug is people using it before the age of 25. I started smoking again very sporadically for physical pain relief, aware of my previous issues with the drug. I gradually increased my usage, to some points more than I ever did when I was younger. I've suffered zero adverse side affects and my life is better than it ever has been. I live in the UK and never experienced relaxed laws on this topic, and I'd love to see it legalised in its full potential, but I'd also restrict usage to 25 years+, that's where the issue is.

For me it was a combination of things that I was dealing with. I found that just practicing concentration and memory, doing things I love helps me out alot. Just having a daily routine is also quite useful. I'm not sure still if this is what it is or not because I wasn't using heavily at the time but I have a very stressful and surreal thing I'm going through right now so I'm thinking that is probably what is causing me all of these symptoms, I still have all of my memories, I know who I am and everything. I just seem out of it at times or just down in the dumps. Edit: Day 8 of no Weed almost day 9 now in a few hours and what I really had was Depersonalization which was triggered by a big stressor I have in my life at the moment and cannabis use.

After smoking daily for 20 plus years from the age of 12, i have experienced almost all of these systems. It has dramatically affected my life. Lucky i realized that all the substances i was using to escape my reality were just making my life a living hell . So gald i am now aware of all these self induced issues i have. I cut back about 2 months ago to just a bong or 2 in the evenings so i could sleep. One week ago i quit completely. The dreams were wild and scary, i would consider them nightmares! I am feeling alot better already and look forward to my future for the first time in a long time. The worst part about this weed addiction is that its very sneaky, almost covert. I thought it was helping me, in reality it was quite the opposite . So many weed addicts are in denial of their addiction let alone the negative affects its having on their lives. Goodluck to everyone in their recovery.

11/12 fingers down for the signs. I started using cannabis to relax and allow myself to let go of my daily struggles. Helped a lot. Made a stupid decision to buy crappy weed from a dealer, it was all grinded up, so im sure it was spice. Had psychosis with this weed and afterwards, normal weed wasnt the same anymore. Extremely paranoid, horrible intrusive thoughts, my depression escalated and I couldnt think straight for many months which made me struggle a lot to get through my day. The thoughts wouldnt stop, and it was delusional stuff. This didnt stop me from smoking though, i added alcohol to the mix to relax myself before smoking. Fast-forward 1 year and ive been weed/alcohol free for 6 months and dont have intentions on doing them again. I dont think ill never smoke again, but im never seeing it as a regular medicine anymore, not after the psychosis period and also withdrawals which are not usually mentioned. My mind finally feels strong enough again to deal with the day to day, and i dont ever want to be back in that place again. I did start vaping, i had never used nicotine before, but i will take breaks inbetween usage. Ill probably wont want to use it after the breaks, but it helped a lot with the anxious feelings i get sometimes. Thank you for this video!

Been smoking it for 32 years, I'm 47 now, and have had terrible mental health problems throughout most of it due also mainly to childhood trauma and emotional disregulation that has ripped my life apart. Cannabis is the opposite for me, I got out of prison in 2010 and was having mood swings and a lot of difficulty with my mental health. 3 years later I was diagnosed with complex ptsd and clinical depression and the pills made me worse. I have been trying cannabis off and on and sometimes it helped and sometimes It didn't till I got a med card and found the right strain. I don't really do extracts or vapes much, just a few joints of gelato a day and I have been much better. I still have some bad days as it's hard dealing with being a felon for something I didn't even do and serve over 9 years on it. I used to be so nervous around people to the point I'd wait till the gas station was empty to go in. Lol. I haven't felt that way in over a year. Maybe people who experience psychosis have some other underlying condition that could be triggered by thc.

I did go to the psychward 3x for "cannabis induced psychosis" because I was acting "delusional" and I wasn't making sense or smart financial decisions. I decided to quit for a while and went back to carts because of a shitty work situation. I decided to watch a lot of videos on toxic work places, getting wealthy, starting a business. And overall changing my mindset on how I view the world and how I live my life. I want from vaping a high thc cart every 30 min that I was awake and 3 energy drinks a day with random 2-4h sleep schedule. to once a day with occassional days off of CBD cart at bedtime, I cut back my energy drinks, I set a sleep schedule, started taking better self care, taking work for what it is and how easily you can find a new job so it really doesn't matter if you get fired as long as you try your best. Basically I changed my mindset with work, money, self care and people are acting as if I'm different and "manic" again but I'm not too sure because I feel fine. When the days that were leading up to the psychward and "psychosis" I felt very "bipolar", "numb", like I was rich and nothing mattered to me like no consiquences. Today I still have moments where I feel like I'm disconnected with society and other people but it's just because i have a different mindset and views with different subjects in life. If you're struggling with mental health, money, work, addiction, food, transportation. Please google reasources and try to get yourself some help. I'm planning on going to the doctors for the first time in a year because I feel as if I'm possibly experiencing symptoms of "psychosis" who knows though because I did spend all my free time learning about laws and taxes and investing for months straight, which is not normal for most 19 year olds but my plan is to try to retire as young as possible. I learned everything online and from many individuals. And at this point I'm feeling I have no one who can relate to my situation. Which is why I'm planning on going to the psychiatrist to talk about mental health and how my recovery from psychosis has been and how my financial knowledge is affecting the way I view other people and myself. (I feel fine but people are saying I'm not fine so I'm going to try to get a "professional's" view on my situation. I've been on antipsychotics and it just made me sleep more and give me the time to take care of myself. I kinda feel like I need more time to myself so honestly worst comes to worst I just go to the psychiatrist and get paid time off work to figure out what I want to do with my future. Who knows the psych might even know some people who can help me with my financial education and situation.

Also when I was sober I was working at a very toxic work environment and I decided to start vaping high thc carts again and I started feeling like I was hearing my parents talk about me when I was in my room saying things like "he's manic again" "should we call the ambulance" and shit like that so I switched to CBD and still had the same experience every few nights. Recently while sober I overheard them talking about me again and I decided it's probably not the thc or CBD it might just be me overhearing something that I'm not supposed to. To this day I'm still paranoid that I'm going to get locked up in the psychward but legally they can't as long as I'm not a safety risk to myself or others

I always wondered about this. Honestly I have used for like 18 years. I hate the super high thc carts. I use it medically but even I have noticed it can become addictive and it can get to a point that I can’t function without it. It’s always important to take breaks and keep your tolerance low. To much or to little makes me a lot worst. If I keep a right dosage it enhances my focus and drive in a very positive way. Good video tho, I advocate for legalization of many things but addiction is def a thing with anything. It’s always good to know the good and bad of substances and be responsible. When I used to get a ton of cannabis and smoke nonstop I would always reach a point to where it didn’t have a effect on me anymore and I would get really moody.

5:18 Literally I smoked for 4 years and was fine and then one day something changed. I am 23 now, but at age 19/20, I became anxious, and afraid of going out in public or interacting with people. Before this I was a social butterfly, now I’m very shy and a little bit of a recluse. When the psychosis started I was completely delusional. I kept smoking every day even though it was not enjoyable AT ALL for me. I kept telling myself things would be different the next time. That went on for half a year. I was then put into a program at age 20 for young adults with first episode psychosis but recently kicked out at 22 due to them determining that I have drug-induced psychosis/substance use issues. I struggle with addiction to cannabis even though whenever I smoke it is guaranteed that I will have a psychotic/suicidal episode. It takes me days to recover from such an episode, and I have gone on benders lasting a week to two weeks where I smoke myself into a hole, basically losing all connection to reality. August 2022 I was hospitalized for a cannabis-induced psychosis and suicide attempt. Since then I have smoked once or twice a month and (obviously) it never goes well for me. I don’t know why I keep going back to it. Self-sabotage I guess. I just found your channel because I had the urge to smoke again and I needed a resource. Very thankful. I feel validated and less alone in this. If you read this comment and relate, I know it can feel really isolating at times, believe me I know, but just seeing this comment section and these videos makes me feel so much less alone. I didn’t even know this existed. Thank you for making these.

this is why having a balanced life is super important. if you want to start doing potentially harmful thinks like drugs or alcohol you have to be willing and able to to also work hard to balance out there health with things like food and exercise and also keeping a very close eye on you mental state to make sure your not slowly going down hill without even realizing it. and remember moderation and balance is key, as long as you live a balanced life your living a healthy one and living an unbalanced life leads to burnout or fast downward spirals.

put 1 finger down, lack of mental clarity. I believe this is because of me recently getting back to my healthy lifestyle but my body and mind still needs to catch up.

Great, informative presentation. After overcoming addiction, I now cycle 100-150 miles per week, possibly as fit, physically, emotionally and mentally as I've ever been and loving life again. I'll never revisit Cannabis again. It has nothing positive to offer. It is very destructive to many ppl, I'm one of them. I answered yes to all six criteria of psychosis. Very hard and dark times. It's just not worth it.

can slowing down the cannabis use or for example only smoking a couple times a week rather than all day everyday, or smoking less and also taking consistent day-week-month breaks, help with this issue? or is quitting the only option. i know it probably depends on exactly what the diagnosis is but i’m curious. and i don’t ever recommend any substances to people after my experiences, but i recently did psilocybin mushrooms for the first time and since then i’ve only smoked 2 times (in about 4-5 weeks) and both times it wasn’t that i felt a different sensation like the mushrooms triggered a schizophrenic type response, but it’s like the high i used to get isn’t there and instead it’s just a very low energy depressive type of high where i just start to see things negative in my life and it isn’t a good feeling. i also haven’t had any withdrawals, just thoughts of smoking that last few seconds then it’s gone. I really believe the mushrooms helped me with my addiction and if you know for certain that you’re not going to have any bad reaction (schizophrenic) to mushrooms, i wouldn’t not recommend it 😅 i do still believe cannabis can be medicinal and has helped me a lot in aspects of my life and personal growth, but like anything too much is never good. control is key 🙏💪

You need to do a video on delta 8 psychosis. I believe i experienced this and now after being treated by a psychiatrist for months i think i am figuring out that the psych ward wrongly diagnosed me with schizoaffective disorder. I was thinking about after everything is good with my psychiatrist to go ahead and smoke again(but NOT delta 8) but now i am thinking. I had been smoking regular weed for years and then once i started delta 8 it got weird

1 month 1 week clean now it started from the video where he talks about quitting weed. Best decision I’ve made so far it help me leave my old life behind and begging a new one. I was battling hard I still am I have lots of anxiety etc but I rather battle this now then have some life altering things show up in my life and have that on top of it . God has helped me through it all. This man’s word was the first to my official stop, I threw my cake bar in the porta John I remember and I’ve hadn’t have had one since.

Yup... Weed psychosis took 8 years of my life with these symptoms and almost daily panic attacks. It's like a very long bad dream where you're a spectator with an altered consciousness.

Cannabis helped me through my teenage years after DV at home and psychosis. I went for years without it periodically coming back to it with no problems at all either way. I just turned 50 and recently obtained my medical script and am looking forward and excited to getting it back into my life and a new chapter. The thing is anything can be addictive if you let your own mind get you addicted to it be it gambling, booze, sex, violence, porn, food, drugs, tobacco etc etc. Its not the thing you're addicted to it's your own personality, your own mind, your own lack of willpower.

Yep, had a serious episode a while back, caught me off guard. I had a whole backstory on multiple layers that all made sense on just about everyone that has been in my life especially more recent additions in my life. Couldn't trust anyone, was thinking the only way out was to pack up and sell our dream home and lifestyle and run away anonymously and start over. I had to do this without friends and neighbours knowing or else they would sabotage the move and keep me trapped in their hell were they could manipulate and destroy me. I couldn't trust my own wife or myself. It was terrifying but at the same time was a most fascinating experience. I kind of recognised it all for what it was so at the peak of my delusion, I went cold turkey off weed alcohol caffeine sugar to try and reset to baseline and get a grip. The whole thing lasted nearly 2 weeks and had glimpses of the delusion from time to time but all good now. I still have weed but am much more weary of changes. Im great full for the experience but wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I've never experienced any of the signs that you spoke of other than occasional lost motivation and I've always been a very secular man being an only child. But I was watching and listening to this any way for my own education, and to be completely honest with you I really wanted to smoke the whole time I was listening to this LOL

I was too! I just finished a smoke of some very nice, long-cured, Kentucky bud. This joint also contained some really nice hash oil too. I like to smoke if I study anything. I can get more into stuff like this when I have a good smoke.

@@travis9457 right on bro. Sounds good. I've been smoking a lot of med grade THC carts cus the gift bag that my dispo (north ca) was giving out had a lot of them in it. Otherwise I normally try to keep a little of everything and not overdo any one kind of THC product and will do a dab of two, a bowl of two and maybe a pull off a cart of two while I'm out n about.. lol. But last few days alot of cart smoking. Only med grade tho. Ive NEVER bought BM cartridges in my life. Anyway.happy tokes. Nite

I’ve had over 4-5 of these “psychosis” trips and each one has gotten more scary. My first was around December of 2022 and had to drive myself to the hospital because I had the same feeling after waking up the next morning. Quit for a week before smoking again because I was hella addicted coming from someone who smoked every day for 7 years. Had a couple more before the last one sealed the deal for me. I quit for good and it’s been about 10-15 days so far. Still recovering from the last one but it feels better to know weed is where this mindset is coming from and that others are sharing their experiences too. I hope everyone here gets better and decides to quit for good. It just sucks because a lot of people make weed out to be completely harmless and a lot of people won’t understand what’s happening to them without the proper research. Good luck everyone!

Used to be a full time smoker for 5 years, early morning til bed time. I noticed many of the signs here and took a 1 year break, I've recently started smoking again but only about once a week/two weeks. I feel good about smoking now, so, my point is that cannabis can be great but abusing anything is most likely gonna be bad for you.

Hello dr frank My name is Devin I’m 26 from Canada, I love watching you’re videos they really help me out a lot. I just have a question to ask you…I quit smoking weed and cigarettes 30 days ago, but 15 days ago I started feeling weird. I am constantly ruminating about that day and trying to pinpoint what happened and why I started feeling weird. I am feeling either anxiety and OCD, depersonalization/brain fog and I’m a month sober and this is still going on and wondering if this is normal. I have been fighting this everyday now and wanted to reach out to see if you could give me any advice. This feeling is so horrible to the point I am scared I’m going to relapse:( Let me know what you think about this.
