Here it is, the first IDEX review I've been able to bring to the channel. But don't worry, it's not the first IDEX printer I've ever owned or had the chance to use. So you can expect my usual no-punches-pulled review.

The Weedo X40 was originally launched on Kickstarter and - as I understand - delivered the final Kickstarter units in April 2021.
You can now purchase the Weedo from a few printer resellers and also direct from AliExpress, for around £535.

I'm new to 3D printing. I assembled a Prusa MK3S+ with MMU2 just several weeks ago and was learning all about it, but I was intrigued by IDEX so I could do simultaneous duplicates. The Weedo ended up what I chose. Since I'm new I'm still on the uphill side of the learning curve, but so far I like this printer. I haven't figured out how to automatically load filament, but other than that the only thing I really don't like is the micro SD card handling. It's tedious to remove/insert on the printer, and a pain to use the adapter on the PC. To solve that I bought: 1) a micro SD to micro SD cable extender; and 2) an external memory card reader for the PC. The extender is great, and much easier for removal/insertion of the card. Also true of the external memory card reader. The card pops in the top which just seems easier than side slots. Thanks for the great review!

Wow that's a brave first printer! But yes, IDEX really is an awesome implementation, way more efficient and I love efficiency. You're micro SD card solution sounds good, clearly a problem solver, so you've found a good hobby to get into:D

Excellent review! Extremely thorough and just as important, I found your observations quite fair and very relevant. You are spot on: IDEX printers' value diminish if I can buy two small printers for equal or lesser value, with the benefit of redundancy. You would think after watching your video that this is Weedoo's first printer to market?!? I look forward to your printing business videos. Keep it up! C

Thank you, appreciate your positive feedback! I do like to cover all the little annoying bits as feel a lot of KZfaqrs focus on the positives, perhaps influenced by a freebie... The main benefit of an IDEX for me is the reduction in setup time and reduced power consumption (only one heated bed). The trouble is, if the printer is a bit fiddly to use, the setup time benefit is quickly lost. So yes, does need to come in below 2x price to be worth consideration. I think you're right about this being a first/early machine from Weedo, especially since it was originally launched as a kickstarter. I haven't seen much activity from them recently, but do think they've got a great base for a really excellent IDEX machine, so do hope they follow up with an upgraded version.

Another great review👍 Looking forward to the ender 3 S1 review so I can compare notes with my experience with the ender. Typically Creality just released the S1 pro which looks like they upgraded a few bits and pieces.

I just bought one of these Friday, so far it's been great straight out the box,no issues.... But I am new to 3d printing and had a question what software is free but good to utilize 2 colors? This may be a stupid question lol.. but I have only been 3d printing for about 3 weeks

Hey Howard, glad you've got off to a good start. You should be able to do two colour printing in the slicer that Weedo have made available for the printer, it's basically a modified version of Cura, so lots of guidance available online for free. It's not what I use personally, so not an expert with it, but if you have any specific questions let me know and I will take a look.
