Do I have to go to nursing school or can I just apply to be a nurse after I get my BSN degree from college?

@@bby.e21 before you go to nursing school you have to take pre-req classes which are like biology and anatomy etc then you apply for nursing school and complete nursing school to become a registered nurse and then from there you can apply to another nursing program to get your bachelors of science in nursing

Hows the program? Im thinking about going into an ABSN program once I get my bachelors! do you think its fast paced

@@lauraadame7895 Hi, I just got my bachelor's in public health so I'm currently doing prereqs to be accepted into an ABSN for Spring '21. From the immense research I've done, it's very fast-paced and it's designed specifically for people who already have degrees elsewhere but definitely want to do nursing. I'm sure you'll do great if you decide to do so!

Laura Adame it’s great! I always knew nursing was what I wanted to do, however a soccer scholarship temporarily put me in a different direction bc my school didn’t have a nursing program. When I finished my bachelors in biology, I looked for the fastest way to get a BSN which was the ABSN route. I didn’t want an associates bc in my opinion it felt like I would be working for the same amount of time, and in some cases longer for a degree that was less than what I already had. Once I found the ABSN route I was all in, it’s the fastest, not the cheapest route. It honestly just depends on what matters most to you money or time. I hope this was helpful, good luck in finishing your first undergrad ☺️

Why not medicine? To become a doctor

Same here im going to be a senior and want to go to college to be a bsn Rn and then back to school to get an advanced nursing degree as a CRNA. I thought about being a doctor but I feel like I’d be happier as a nurse. Med school is super rigorous and expensive. Even applying to med schools, flights for interviews, living expenses for med school is costly, something I wouldn’t be able to pay for. I’ve heard of doctors who payed their student debt at like age 40+. Even after med school you get paid very very low as an intern and through residency while being overworked like 80+ hours a week. Nursing offers a great work life balance and flexibility to switch specialties.

Yasmine Becoming a doctor is definitely a rigorous journey that will push you to your intellectual and physical limits. Med school is expensive and residents do get paid pennies compared to all the work and sacrifice they do. However, as a premed student, I chose to go in the path of medicine and not nursing because I want to have the knowledge that comes with people’s disease and I want to have a deeper scope of practice. I don’t merely want to be in charge of treating the symptoms. I think the human body and pathology are incredibly interesting but I also want to be a compassionate physician for the ill person at hand. As a underrepresented minority in medicine (I am Mexican), I want to be able to care for the Hispanic population, including everyone else of course, and I want them to feel comfortable knowing that their doctor shares similar cultural values and languages as them. This will drastically improve the interaction, communication and treatment adherence. This will make such a positive impact in the patient’s health and can help alleviate some of the effects of health disparities. Medicine is difficult, but I personally felt that if I chose nursing, I would be doing myself and my community a disservice because I know I can do more. Medicine is not for everyone. To me the financial aspect of med school doesn’t really make an impact when choosing medicine. Yes it’s going to be expensive, but doctors do get paid enough to pay the loans back. Alternatively, money is not the drive for me either. If money was my priority I would have chosen a different career path like accounting or any business related field because it’s faster and arguable easier to become very wealthy that way. The knowledge and social capital that comes from being a physician is definitely worth all the years of studying that I will have to endure. It will open many more opportunities and will allow me to have a deeper impact in my community and patient’s lives.
