I love Pete Davidson as a performer, every joke he tells feels so natural, almost as if he was talking directly to you. This is why I’m a bit upset at Saturday Night Live, I’m very happy they’ve employed Davidson and assisted him in his rise to fame, but he’s so underused. That bit where he says Kate McKinnon doesn’t talk to him feel genuine. I think he feels like an outsider even next to Colin. I’m very glad he’s gotten close to people like John Mulaney who kind of know what it’s like to be the “side-show” to the rest of the cast. Pete isn’t the only underused member of the newer cast but his lack of air time definitely shines through. He’s a brilliant writer and I hope to see him in more bits or perhaps even leaving the show to pursue greater things (as he already has been, starring in movies, his Netflix comedy special, etc.) He’s a brilliant off-the-cuff hilarious comedian and I think with time he’ll become one of the greats. I just think Pete should be given a slot on every weekend update because let’s face it, he’s definitely the most entertaining part of that and perhaps the most entertaining part of current SNL as a whole.
