I came into 60 pounds of beef that had to be trimmed. I ended up with 6 pounds of beef fat. My first thought was I bet Jessica has a video about what to do with this fat! Thank you as always. You are always so informative.

I understand Gracie’s struggles. I’m the only one in my family who is left handed. In school I was forced to use right handed scissors. My husband blessed me with a left handed rifle 5 years ago, boy that struggle to adapt to that took me a while 😂 Instead of yarn or rubber bands I take a band and screw on over top of coffee filter. Works very nice.

Jessica I LOVE this video! Love seeing all the different things you do to give me ideas over my normal canning and preserving. I am currently doing my 6th roaster full of pasta sauce. I do a rotating canning schedule each year so I don’t have to do same things every year. Last year I canned salsa with the tomatoes enough for 2 years about 120 quarts/pints. So this year I doing sauce which includes spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce for 2 years. I always try adding something new and this year I added the peach preserves, jam and syrup. I didn’t have it in me to do the vinegar yet but I promise I will soon! Thank you again! I live in PA so we have the same climate so we are doing things the same time. I did do the august preserving challenge as well, except for the week hubby and I went away for our anniversary 💜. Keep up the amazing videos and don’t be afraid to make them longer 😂

@@vancouvervixen4253 it works very well for me. May take a while til you get it right to last you but it worth it. Just think how much you use a week x 104 weeks. I do the same with green beans and carrots. Alternate every year. There are certain things you have to grow every year.so the more I can alternate the more variety I can grow each year

My lazy way of rendering is to put it in whole and then when it's softened use an immersion blender to blitz it. I will also add salt to my water and stir it all around because I think the salt helps pull impurities from the fat. For super pure tallow/lard I will put the whole thing outside (if cold enough) or in the fridge to harden. Then take the fat puck off the water and scrape the meat mash off the bottom and re-render with fresh salty water. I'll do that up to 3 times depending on if I need my crockpot or not. I do that for cosmetic lard for sure to get all those solids out.

When I order our pig from the farmer, he has the butcher shop grind the fat for me. The butcher said that his mom taught him to do that and he never goes against his mom's wish when customers ask for fat to render. 😅 FYI I bought a Nesco at a garage sale for $20 last year. It handled all the fat at once and I was done in 3 hours. Maybe your butcher would grind the fat for you. It would save you time and certainly money on electricity. 😉
