Hey friends, I want to do something that some might think is weird but I feel led to do it. I would love to send a few of you one of my tin can biscuit cutters that my daddy made. It's nothing of any monetary value but they mean a lot to me and it would make my heart real happy to share them with some of you. It would tickle me to know that every time you use it you would think of me. So if you are interested just leave a response and I will randomly pick as many as my daddy has to give away. 😊 Thank you for being part of my story and letting me be part of yours ❤️ I love you all so much, you make my little world such a brighter place.

The biscuit bowl reminds me of my mom. She always had a bowl of flour with a plate over it for biscuits. She never used a cutter, just shaped them with her hands. They were unforgettable

I think the reason why I have fallen in love with your channel is so many of the things you make bring back all the wonderful memories. Like granny's big ole bowl of flour for biscuits. I don't know how many times I asked her to give me a recipe and she would always say, you just have to make them feel right. LoL I still can't make bread like her or a homemade cake even with a recipe. Also your "accent" is very close to most of my family and I find it comforting. (I lost most of mine) I'm binge watching you on mother's day, and hope you have had a wonderful one.

Your being in the kitchen stories just warmed my heart so much. I dont have a lot of special memories like you and your dad. I do enjoy cooking and thinking about where I got my recipes from, how much I have learned to cook from the time I first got married at 26 and now I am 53. And I still love to learn tips and tricks watching your videos and others too. And thank you for the can idea. My husband will enjoy making me some of those. So cool. This video made me smile. 😊 I forgot to tell you that your biscuits look beautiful and delicious to me.

I haven't made Broccoli Salad in ages! I don't like raisins but sometimes I would put in sunflower seeds. I won't use shortening, but my biscuit recipe is flour, salt, baking powder, a tiny bit of sugar, and whipping cream. They are incredibly delicious. I just pat into a square, cut into 12 portions with a pizza cutter, brush with butter and bake. They are addictive and SO much easier than cutting out and with no waste. Thanks for another fun and comfy video! Everybody loves Momma Mel!!! ❤️

Oh Mel, I resonate so much with you talking about cooking being a way of storytelling. Cooking is the primary way I remember and tell stories about growing up. And my family always shared stories around food as well. Your biscuits are gorgeous! My biscuits are certainly not perfect, but every time I make them I am reminded of being a little girl learning to make biscuits with my great grandmother and my nana. Such tender memories for me! Mel, I love your comments so much about your dad and family. I read somewhere that whenever we make something we should tell the children in the kitchen about the person who supplied the recipe! Then we should tell them how we made it with them or details like that. I LOVE that! It gives me another reason to share my sweet dad, my sister and my grandmother with the kids. I love your video’s! You remind me of Paula Deen the way you cook and talk- your recipes seem to be amazing - I’m going to try several of them once I recover from my surgery- I love to cook, my son is 25 and will be getting married in June 2023- I’ve been making him a handwritten cookbook of some of his favorite childhood recipes and some of my momma and grannies recipes too- GOD rest both their beautiful souls- my mom passed away at the same exact age as I am 55- my grannie lived to be 89- o the memories of those beautiful women- my son did get to spend some time with them and we often laugh at their stories as we share them with one another- I adore your channel and you seem so genuine- thank you for sharing your video’s! GOD Bless you and your family! Melissa from Ky ❤️

Melissa thank you so much for sharing this with me, it means so much to me to hear your story. I will definitely keep your healing in my prayers and I hope you are not being affected by the flooding. I absolutely love that you are doing a handwritten cookbook for your son! There is no more precious gift than those passed down memories and recipes. ❤️ I am so glad that you're here and I appreciate your sweet comment so much. Have a great week and I hope to see you often in the comments 🥰

I do not live in the flooded area- it’s so devastating , I did pack a few thing’s and my son took them to be taken to Eastern Ky- a trailer leaves today (8/1) to take things there- I’ve binge watched a lot of your video’s I absolutely love them and your grocery hauls too! Thank you for such a sweet response to comment- I’d love to have one of the biscuit cutters your dad has made. I lost my father in 2018@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel

Hi, Mel! Instead of pickle relish in my potato salad I use chopped up green olives and put a big ol' tablespoon or two of sour cream in. I learned when making biscuits to work them as little as you possibly can and then after you get them on the pan, let them set for about 5 minutes to start the rising process before putting them in the oven. I sure do wish I had a big pan of biscuits and some gravy right now! Unfortunately, I can't have gluten and haven't figured out how to do decent biscuits with the gf flour. I'd rather have none than yukky ones!

My mom was an excellent baker. I remember my mom cutting biscuits with a can , and I remember her using a glass glass to cut something. Unfortunately, I didn't pick up the skills when it comes to bread, rolls or biscuits. I'm going to cut my hot dogs , they were pretty and sound good cooked in the oven

My mother made delicious biscuits every morning and they never went to waste. 😜 I didn’t inherit her knack for making biscuits, so I have a hard time too. I watch Brenda Gantt too and bought her cookbook. You’ve made me want to try and make them again. Mel, I notice that you cook with cast iron on your glass stovetop and it does fine. They told me not to use it on mine, but I going to try. Thanks for your videos. You cook like home. 😊♥️

It's Jan 8,2023. I had to chuckle about you saying you couldn't make biscuits but you just breezed through the sausage gravy. I have the opposite problem. I can Ale biscuits with no trouble but gravy is my nemesis. It's either paste or too liquidy. I love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing them.

I love broccoli salad and I love you Mel! So glad I found you. One tip I recently learned (and it may not be for everyone) is to chop, soak your onion in cool water for 5 minutes, drain and you get the onion flavor and it isn’t over powering and helps prevent strong onion breath. I also blanch my broccoli because it’s a little bitter for me but still- one of my favorite recipes! Thank you for sharing.
