@@bobblackmesa7914 Damn, I never made that connection before. It's tough to say whether Jamie inspired SImply State or not (or the other way around) But knowing Rivers, he does like re-using his stuff, so there's definitely a possibility

@@videowastoobig according to Weezerpedia, simply state was written/recorded about a year or two before Jamie, so it most likely inspired Jamie. Crazy that that instrumental wouldn't get put into a completed song until 1996

Finally a cut of of "Love Is The Answer" I can listen to! This track was genuinely my least favorite they've ever released on Raditude but this demo version is absolutely stunning putting it amongst my favorites

In another, better reality, Rivers ditched the major label and released 100 albums he self-produced on his Tascam cassette multitrack. GBV style. His demos are better 100% of the time. Then some suit in the marketing board room convinced him to cut the genius stanzas and replace them with lyrics about the mall and stuff. No disrespect, he’s an incredible artist.

@@Paul-dw2cl on most of their releases before Mag Earwig, they were using a Tascam Porta One I believe. Rivers recorded an a Tascam 8-track cassette for his “demos” in his early days IIRC

title is too real, even demos of pre-existing song that don't have any different lyrics hit different, mostly the pinkerton demos. also, the fact el scorcho has a demo surprises me since no other non-sftbh songs from pinkerton have demos as far as i know. if i could know where you found these, that'd be great, thanks.

el scorcho does not have a demo. Simply State was recorded in 1992 and Rivers used parts of it for Blast Off then El Scorcho.

you have to admit it’s still pretty different than the pixies. i think rivers is a little more sweet with the harmonies and crescendos while frank black is a little more manic and maniacal
