I don't comment on videos and you already have 7k comments so you won't see this, but this is art. I loved Weezer. I was in a band in high school and the drummer played me Say It Ain't So and it was just so different than anything else I was into. So many nights as an angsty teenager listening to Pinkerton. And then when the unauthorized biography came out I read about how River's metal band Avant Garde would harmonize the mixolydian mode over the phrygian. We started to do that and suddenly all of our leads sounded like the Scorpions. It was brilliant. I can't blame Rivers for going with what sold - I would have done the same. Your video hits hard and I've teared up every time you're back at the board. Best wishes for 2023. August is Falling got me through a tough time.

I think part of the early appeal of weezer was that they were incredibly *relatable.* They seemed like what you and your mates would be like if your crappy garage band accidentally got famous somehow... it seems almost achievable, obtainable, which ends up making it feel more authentic. I was sitting in an LA coffee house sometime before the "Beverly Hills" album (Make Believe) and Weezer walked in unannounced and played an acoustic set of 8 new songs they were trying out. No one else seemed to recognize them or care what they were playing. I heard from a friend later that they shelved all those songs. So apparently, Weezer had created 8 songs that weren't good enough for the "Beverly Hills" album. Let that sink in.

Dude, same. When Holiday started creeping in... then the crescendo broke... hit me like a punch to the gut of nostalgia, I was immediately singing along and reminiscing about cruising in my buddy's old busted Buick (the "I" of the logo fell off, so it was "Buck"... then, of course, we chipped the "B" and it became "Fuck"... then his mom made us take off the emblem and paint over the area with totally-not-quite-matching paint 😂), blasting Blue and Pinkerton after school on our way to our band's practice or to go throw up in some church parking lot from smoking too much weed too fast. Fellow Weezer fan here who just graduated from Temple University myself! Fantastic video, was thoroughly entertained the whole time. Regarding the age thing, I was 17 when White came out and it’s my personal favorite Weezer record not only because it played a big role in my life but also because it’s such a good and energetic power pop record that plays into all of Weezer’s strengths so well yet creates something that has the freshness of classic Weezer with a modern spin. However, just because I grew up with Make Believe doesn’t mean I think it’s a great record. I also still recognize Blue as their opus despite not being alive for its release and having White be my personal favorite. In a sense, White is their most mature record while also having a sense of childlike carefree innocence. If you haven’t really given that record a chance, give it a chance.

Worth noting the similarity between Boston Market and Weezer's history: BM got popular around 94-95 (Blue Album) and grew rapidly until going bankrupt in 1998 (after the Pinkerton tour), at which point it was purchased by McDonald's for their property holdings, but it was determined that the brand was serviceable, so they kept making chicken. I did not expect what I thought was just a funny random tangent would pay off so effectively.

Also, a couple years ago I went through my own existential Weezer crisis and listened critically to every album. I determined that they still release a great song every now and again, but they're batting 1 good tune for every 2-3 albums. Not a great average, but that's where we're at. I compiled a playlist of my favorite tunes, which is admittedly mostly from the first two records- but it has quite a few later ones as well. In other words, I did the work so you don't have to.
