Jermaine Dupri probably meant it 100% seriously, in line with all the other party songs he's done. Rivers took the party hard lyrics and, with a somber chord progression, made it into a song about partying too much and self-destructive behavior. Then Raditude slapped a Lil Wayne verse and a bunch of electronic dance production on it and made it an unironic and dumb party song again.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Can’t Stop Partying. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rivers’ nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Fall out Boy, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Raditude truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rivers’ existential catchphrase "I can’t stop, partying partying” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Rivers Cuomo’s genius wit unfolds itself on their phone speakers. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Weezer tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

I wish they kept River's acoustic version. It sounded so longing and almost regretful. like he knows he has an addiction, but he can't stop it because it's become his whole life routine.

I have to admit, this song kind of works live. It sticks out like a sore thumb in the recorded discography, but here with the guitars a little louder in the mix, it's a lot better.

The sond is actually melancholic. It's about being trapped in a behavioural loop he no longer finds meaningful or even enjoys. He's getting old but he needs to keep partying to make money. That's why it is on a minor key. It's kind of like "Tired of Sex", where's there's this self depreciating irony.

@@mac_II You didn’t get it, the production was how most shitty pop songs sounded like back then, it was supposed to be a parody of those types of songs with shitty production and shallow lyrics. It does seem like just a shit pop song from 2009 at the surface level but if you look into the lyrics, it’s a pretty funny satire of the state of pop music in 2009.
@mac_II

@@reesrowlands8430 the lyrics or the fact that it's a parody (which it probably isn't) doesn't save it from the fact that it's a god awful song
