Honestly, I feel like in a way the emperor just was hoping that ruyi still loved him after all the bull everyone around him put her through. I'm going to be honest, I would almost feel as bad for the emperor if it wasn't for him choosing to be negligent on a whim forcing Ruyi always have to think of ways to rise above him as a challenge instead of him aiding her as a partner. He just came in and solved problems, not resolve the issue. Ruyi deserved better. Im just glad Ling gets her just desserts.

Well 1 he was the emperor who is assumed to be right in everything he does and cannot be questioned. 2. In chinses culture I believe women are supposed to be submissive and never question their male family members though maybe a brother but certain no a father or husband which they technically belonged to as property. And the would be even more so if your husband was emperor. Emperors were supposed to be the supreme moral authority, father of their people and a god type figure. That's why she looses it later when she feels he's not acting morally .....ahem up to the position but that comes later.
