Olympic lift variations and accessory exercises are easy and quick to learn for a novice I've found that high pulls work great for me in learning to generate explosive power Overhead Squats build balance and core strength Clean grip power snatches also teach explosion without needing to use heavy weight The Olympic lift variations also built my back muscles up dramatically Whoever thinks that the Olympic lifts/variations have no use for athletes is just delusional I wish that I have done the Olympic Lifts/variations since my teenage years when I started weight training.

I would think it is a challenge to teach large groups, who often have to share equipment, dynamic lifts that go overhead, have to be dropped once you go above certain weights, where misses will have the bar drop either in front or behind the lifter. I mean, look at how badly Crossfit boxes teach the lifts. And they have more space, and better coach to student ratios. Bill Starr used the power clean and not the deadlift in his system. The power clean won't go overhead, and will just drop in front if failed. Going to full snatches and C&Js for large groups, especially at high school level, not so sure. They'd have to get light empty bars to start. Then, stronger athletes new to them might just power thru the movements, causing other problems. I learned them on my own, but I would never say it was easy It took me countless hours of watching YT videos and long, humble progressions with real light weights. One or two sessions of one-on-one coaching helped too. But I am no athlete either. Just my grain of salt here.

There is no doubt that OL lifting promotes and enhances athletic and sports performance, however it is one of many tools that an S&C coach should have in their box. If as a coach you don’t have the knowledge or confidence to coach and cue the OL lift you should have other tools in your arsenal to produce athletic performance, force, power, speed, coordination. I’m not in any of the three groups per say but I use the tools Iv learnt to improve performance and reduce injury occurrence, whether it be a programme based on improving structural imbalances or strength. An athlete is only as strong/athletic as their weakest link so creating a strong base and building on this and building their technical performance, mobility flexibility strength etc.

@@SuperhumanUnchained Hey man I watched some of your videos. You got some really cool stuff. In my opinion, if you were to make videos about teaching military and combat training aimed at younger recruits getting into the service and veterans looking to stay in shape. Make lots of educational videos like that. Your channel could blow up. Just my 2 cents. Don't mean to impose. Good luck to you man 💪

@@SuperhumanUnchained Yeah man. It's hard. It took us years to figure out the success we've only seen recently. Number 1 thing that helped us improve was think: AUDIENCE FIRST. What do people want to see? It's most likely things that help them like educational videos. It looks like you have a lot of years of experience. You can use that to your advantage and make videos about what those groups of people want to learn about with military and tactical training. My recommendation is start where you started. What do beginners need to learn at the very start before tactical training. THEN MAKE THOSE VIDEOS 500 TIMES. Hope that helps man ✌

Do you have any strong opinions on Girevoy/KB sport or mace and club bell? I'd figure the unilateral asymmetry would make for killer accessory work with a ton of sports, but it seems to have stayed pretty niche.

Olímpic weightlifting absolutely necessary in sports
@ronlugbill1400
@ronlugbill1400 Жыл бұрын
Most sports movements like running, jumping, and throwing are fast, only 1/10 or 2/10 of a second. Most weightlifting movements like squats, deadlifts, or bench presses take 1 or 2 seconds to perform. So, you are training your muscles to perform more slowly. Sports performance is increased by moving faster, not slower. Olympic weightlifting movements are about 1/2 second. So they are more specific to sports movements. Your rate of force production is higher with Olympic lifts than with slower lifts. You can use less weight and do squats, bench press, etc. at higher rates of speed. Or you can do plyometrics or ballistics, which are faster movements. The idea is to build a base of strength, then train more for power at speeds that are closer to the speeds of athletic movements.

I want to like you and your philosophies. I agree with many things you preach. Be careful criticizing other coaches that have made it farther than you though, and make way more money. There is a reason professional strength coaches put less emphasis in having their athletes focus so much on Olympic Lifts, especially at the elite level in their specific sport. Not saying Olympic lifting is bad, just not the end all be all of sports training like you preach. Technical coordination needs to be sports specific. Need to focus on training football players to be technically coordinated for football, not Olympic weightlifting. Not saying there isn’t carryover, just not like what you preach once again. I think you bring up good points, and I believe in many things you say.

@nicefly1556

Aint a coach but I think it's dangerous when it's isolated e.g shoulder raises you want maximum mobility and strength in all planes of motion which is why olympic lifting is good. A compound movement working all muscles in the back especially the upper back preventing imbalances that may cause injury
