@@goldcaps11 You're obviously misinformed, when people say they speak Chinese its referring to mandarin. This is true especially when someone is speaking speaking chinese (mandarin for you) because when someone says 中文 (Chinese/Central language) they are referring to 普通话 (Mandarin). So when someone says they speak chinese, it is always automatically assumed that they speak mandarin because that assumption is carried over from 中文, if they spoke other dialects, one would specify. Also there are dialects other than mandarin or cantonese by the way.
