Drew's score jumped by 500, indicating one good answer, so something was definitely cut. Guessing it involved Norse mythology, so the unabridged should be: "Valhalla @fter midnight, with Valkyrie Tomlinson"

So, linguists have actually said for years that the accent that Shakespearean English would have sounded like is closer to the Appalachian accent the modern-day english. So ironically Shakespeare in a Southern accent would actually be closer to authentic then listening to someone such as the great Sir Patrick Stewart speak it. Also, that clip sounded as if that guy was a mixture of Jim Varney AKA Ernest and Matthew McConaughey

As a southerner actually living in the Appalachians, have you *heard* OP Shakespeare? Maybe at some technical level it "sounds" more like my dialect than "Standard American", but OP just sounds like the Welsh accent to me. A pretty legitimate one as well, like even with no direction if you asked him to "Welsh it up" I bet that Rob Brydon would have lines rhyming that someone like Stewart never would. Well... unless he used his native accent perhaps.
@TSIRKLAND

@@pymarathon Exactly! Kinda' ironic that Royal Shakespeare Company training would take a native Welshman like Patrick and make him re-learn his own language with a posh R.P. accent to perform Shakespeare, which was originally performed in an accent much more closely aligned with his native one! Meh; that's the whims of language fashion for ya.

@@pymarathon Also, for general knowledge of those who might not know, much of the population of the southern U.S., particularly Appalachia, was made up of immigrants from Great Britain, specifically Ireland, Scotland, Wales- those who had been persecuted and disenfranchised by the English- and either chose to make a new life in a new land, and/or were forced into the position through indentured servitude, or as a punishment for some criminal offense. So that melting pot of "unfavorable" British accents sort of melded into a uniquely Southern American Colonies (later Southern United States) accent. And after that migration and political upheaval, Britain underwent a significant shift in its "favorable" accent; which population held more power, which dialect had more influence, so the "quintessentially British" sound shifted away from those who had emigrated to America, even as the American accent took on its own flavors, depending on which wave of Europeans settled in which area. And even today, there are pockets of Appalachia, and pockets of Great Britain, that retain many of the same sounds- vowels, consonants, word forms, even words and phrases and idioms. So interesting.

There was an old sitcom called My Three Sons on which one of the sons complained about the teacher asking a trick question on a test - "Who won the French and Indian War?" and he had guessed wrong. Tom's use of it is great because you can find the joke funny regardless of whether you remember it was a war between American settlers and (The French+the Indians). I remember that war almost solely because of My Three Sons!

I’ve been digging panel shows lately, mostly British ones (Taskmaster and Big Fat Quiz). There is a theory that they don’t translate to American TV because the stakes are purposefully low and the points irrelevant, and American audiences have been conditioned to care too much about points. Ironically it’s come full circle on Taskmaster where now the fandom becomes so invested that they discuss the points. Anywho, to answer your question, in addition to the games really just existing as a means to get the banter (i.e., the points don’t matter), it would take too much time to survey the audience that it would ruin the pacing of the show.
@ShannonJacobs0

@@ShinyHubCaps They could use a smartphone voting app and give the live audience the authorization number of each episode while they vote. But the use of such an app might give them away to market a live feed, too.
