As an inspiration for our ‘weird things about Missouri’ video we did, we found a list of laws that are outrageous. You may even consider it UNLAWFUL. Let us know if you have heard any of these in the comments below!
List of Weird Laws:
Kansas City:
- Kids are forbidden from playing with cap guns, but they can purchase real life shot guns.
- If you are a single male between the ages of 21 and 50 you pay an annual tax of one dollar for just being single.
- The installation of bathtubs with four legs that resemble animal paws
Natchez:
- If want to give beer to an elephant, just make sure you aren’t in Natchez, because it’s illegal there.
Columbia:
- Though clotheslines are banned, clothes may be draped over a fence.
- You cannot drink in a bar from 2AM to 6AM.
Mole:
- Frightening a baby is against the law.
Ballwin:
- You may not use vulgar language outside your home.
St. Louis:
- On-duty firefighter cannot rescue woman wearing nightgowns. In order to be rescued, a woman must be fully dressed.
- Milkmen cannot run on duty.
- You cannot sit on the curb and drink beer from a bucket.
- No parking your car with the engine on, on the basis that it might scare the horses.
Marionville
- If you kidnap an albino squirrel, you will get a $500 fine.
Purdy
- Don’t take your dancing shoes there, because showing off your moves there is prohibited.
Saco
- Women are forbidden from wearing hats that might frighten timid persons, children, or animals.
Marquette
- It is illegal for more than four unrelated persons to occupy the same dwelling.
University City
- No person may have a “yard sale” in their front yard.
Jefferson City-
- You can not have a garage sale last longer than 3 days and you can’t have more than two sales per year.
Statewide Laws:
- Dont even THINK about worrying about squirrels, you are not allowed to.
- Women are not allowed to wear corsets because “the privilege of admiring the curvaceous, unencumbered body of a young woman should not be denied to the normal, red-blooded American male.”
- It is illegal to eat clam chowder on Sunday between 11:50 a.m. and 12:48 p.m.
- You also need a permit to shave while driving.
- It’s also illegal to smoke a pipe through your ear.
- It’s also illegal in Missouri to honk someone else’s horn.
