I disagree. VESA screws holes should be mandatory but not used by default as its use case depends heavily on each setup. What is the point of having a VESA edge mounted arm (or a VESA destop stand) if the sceen is planned to be wallmounted or if it's planned to hide a SFF PC case behind it? Just let the VESA mount for optional products from the manufacturer or third-parties.

It would especially be interesting to see how the cheaper ones measure up (Bargain stuff from Amazon/Ebay) vs the much more expensive stuff. I bought an Ergotron MX ages ago for a whopping €120, many years later I bought a very similar arm from Amazon for about a third of that price and in my experience they're pretty darn similar. The Ergotron MX has thumbscrews instead of regular screws to mount the monitor, which is nice, but not three times the price nice. Build quality, supported monitor weight and range are about the same. I feel like it's a market where they just charge random numbers because no one bothers comparing them. It could be interesting for those that never considered a monitor arm to get the benefits of one highlighted - I personally don't plan on ever going back to a normal monitor stand (if the monitor doesn't support VESA mounting it's not the monitor for me). My deskspace is precious, the additional adjustability is awesome and it makes cleaning the desk a heck of a lot easier as well.

I just picked up one of these yesterday, It came highly recommended and it was on sale. It wasn't until I got home that I thought maybe it was so well recommended because they were trying to get rid of overstock. Good to see the specs in line with other monitors I was looking at like the MSI g274qpf-qd. I cannot believe these were listed at $500 last year, I feel much better about the $195 price tag I paid for it.

It would be awesome if you did a review (or maybe an explainer/roundup video) looking at monitor arms. I'm looking for an arm/stand that can take a heavy ultrawide that will also allow me to position the screen above another one. I want the new Alienware ultrawide but I also want to keep my current one, however my desk isn't wide enough for two ultrawides next to each other!
@jadoei13
@jadoei13 Жыл бұрын
Any chance of reviewing a bunch of monitor arms? I really want an easy to move around arm that copes with my 8kg ultrawide. I bought a rather long XP version of the Adapt Spacearm series but it isn't quite what I was hoping. Sure I can move my monitor, but it keeps wobbling about and it bends way more than it should. I also didn't think about it before buying, but a spring loaded vesa mount is basically a must. This one has a friction ball joint and adjusting it is a pain. It's extremely difficult and takes a lot of force to get the tilt right. It also doesn't necessarily stay put if you extend it all the way, the whole arm bends so much that the centre of gravity shifts and the monitor rotates to a different position on its own.

@@RichWhiteUM It's not silly. NZXT is giving it's customers options. They know that there are those us out here that already have a VESA monitor arm and don't need a desk stand, and NZXT gives you the option to just buy the monitor. Want to place it on top of your desk? Get the desk stand. Don't want to put it on top of your desk? Buy the desk arm mount.

Would LOVE to see you review a monitor like an Eizo 2740, just to give some context and a baseline for what the creative industry sees as the gold standard in color accuracy. I think it would be really interesting to see compared to some of these gaming monitors that people use for dual-purposes and so we can see just how much of a compromise is being made by choosing high refresh rate over color accuracy.

There are more benefits to mounts: The space below your screen opens up, and the screen can be placed higher which is generally more ergonomic. I'm using a 3rd party mount for two 25" screens and it's great!
@rtyzxc
@rtyzxc Жыл бұрын
The ergonomic position for a monitor is where your eye level is at the top of the screen, and I've not seen a monitor with too low stand, it's the opposite, most of the stands look like they won't go low enough especially for a 27" panel. With the desk space I 100% agree. For gaming I want to have my arms straight at my keyboard and still be able to have close viewing distance for immersion, which means the keyboard must be able to go partially under the monitor. For this you don't need an expensive monitor arm though, what you need centered stand that is a combination of narrow, flat and as far back as possible (the heavier stand, the more forward-protruding the screen can be). My MSI QRF-QD has that. Though in terms of shopping for a new keyboard, some keyboard legs are mounted unnecessarily towards the middle and not at the far sides, another lack of attention to detail of the industry, which limits the horizontal placement relative to monitor, so for maximum compatibility with keyboardsthe monitor stand could be even more narrow. If sideways stabilility is an issue, then just make the stand widen towards the back. Sadly most monitors have these crazy long and protruding legs for cool marketing, and it's just not practical for my use. The newly announced Asus OLED looks otherwise good but with that stand, nah.
@unusedTV

@@rtyzxc That's because a lot of people have their desks too high, which makes you sit with raised shoulders. Most desk postures are wrong on so many levels.

While an adjustable gas-spring monitor arm is a solid must-have in my book it seems a bit of an error to only offer a monitor with one at a price premium. Even though I wouldn't have a monitor without one I already have three along with the conventional stands that came with the monitors that are currently mounted. I don't want to pay for a new one with a new monitor.

Tim, would you be willing to review the LG Dual-Up monitor? I think it's the first one to try packaging that desk arm that I know of. The special part of the armada monitors is the microcenter prices. I would ignore the prices in the review. At release the 1080p 240hz model was $130. The 1440p 165hz model was like $170. The prices have now risen at microcenter so its less of a deal, but still better priced than other monitors.

I think that monitor manufacturers should split their monitors into three different product lines... One that comes with the standard monitor stand and one with an VESA arm stand and one without any stand. That way consumers get to choose which one they need instead based on their situation. Save $40 to get the the monitor without stand version or pick between a standard monitor stand or a VESA arm stand for extra money.

Anyone having trouble with watching HDR Videos with the monitor? If you watch the KZfaq Video OLED Test you can see a lot of Artifacting in the background? Is it just me or......?

This thing is $499? I would think there would be better for that price. the Cooler Master Tempest with HDR.

Good third party mounts start at 30€ on amazon, for example the amazon basics one(which I bought for under 30€ brand new for wall mount). No need for a 50 to 100$/€ mount for a single monitor if it's not a TV.

I have the double armed amazon basics version for over a year now. Its excellent! When I was doing research online a lot of people seemed to suggest that its from the same manufacturer that Ergotron uses.

@@danielh12345 I read pretty much the same things when I was searching for mine(single monitor arm), it's been 3 years since I've had it and I have NO issue with it. It's been and still is perfect and I manipulate it quite a lot. It's a tank. On the video though, my opinion is that every monitor should come with the option to buy the screen alone or with an arm. It's only beneficial. I don't see the use case for a standard stand for a monitor. At all. I'll never go back, EVER. It would also be cheaper to get the screen alone if you already have a arm. or plan to buy one. Less material waste AND cheaper shipping cost due to less weight of the box.

@@Dubistader I agree, although having the stand can be quite nice still if you have the storage space. I had my monitor mounted forever, then had a new desk delivered. Still had to work that day, so took it off the mount, put it on the stand and moved the desk. Then had a few days to set up the new desk and cable manage etc. The stand was nice to have for that reason I guess... But in general, I very much agree. My use case doesn't happen often haha

@@danielh12345 Oh! You are right. I can see that. Maybe I'm to focus on my use case. I have 2 monitors and both stands went to the recycling center as soon as they were unboxed. 😅 I don't plan on selling them either so I don't need the stands.
